The checkout lady was competent. She even thanked me for bringing my recycling bags, asked me how my visit was and invited me to come back to the store. The bagger was pleasant. He happily bagged my items and as I exited, I believe it was a manager, smiled and bade me farewell. Two thumbs up. This is a model class in grocery store customer service. I will be back.

The store is conveniently located on the main drag through Shallotte, not too far from the intersection of Highway 17 and Business 17. The layout of the store is similar to the Holden Beach one, although it feels much larger and newer, with updated flooring and signage. The wine section is larger and more varied, with specials at all price points. I like that Food Lion carries the Udi's gluten free breads, including their baguette, which is pretty decent for GF bread. The trick is to know these breads are located in a freezer case on the way to the produce area, just past the deli section. The staff is friendly and helpful, and checkout is a breeze.

But for quick things, a few food items or convenience store things, beer, etc. then Sheffield's fits the bill. A huge walk in beer cooler, always nice especially when it is so hot outside! There is a small seafood shop in the back as well. Quick ice stop here is probably the main reason we see it so much. Very nice people working, great location, and handy items make Sheffield's one place you will probably visit many times if you make it out to OIB anytime for a vacation.

The parking lot is usually pretty packed as this store/shopping center is a pretty busy one. The grocery store itself is pretty clean and has a good layout, but again usually pretty busy with customers. The grocery prices are pretty acceptable for a beach area and of course their Food Lion MVP cards for special prices are useable here. There is a pretty good selection of all grocery items, no visible lacking areas noted so far. There is a hot food bar available if you want to use for a premade meal to take home. The beer cooler is towards the front to the left as you walk in, pretty handy in a beach area obviously. There are staffed checkout lines as well as self checkout kiosks, and the self checkout area line actually moves pretty fast as well staff comes quickly when needed/screen signals them. The scowling guy said the dog did not like other animals.
