The Economy Shop is literally a Victorian style house with every room crammed with secondhand goods and antiques. They're only open 3-4 days a month from 9am-3pm, so you need to plan your visit. When you enter, you're handed a paper sheet that is divided into different categories of merchandise. When you go to each room, they total up whatever you want to buy from that given room. When you're completely done shopping, you pay at the far back of the house and exit. Prices are fair and you can find some great stuff here. The basement was one area that was overwhelming. Almost too much to look at and fully absorb. Tips for first time visitors: 1. Bring reusable bags or a tote bag. They will give you bags but a good sturdy bag will work to your advantage. 2. Parking is tricky. You're fine on residential streets but if you park along the train tracks, you have to feed a meter. $2.00 per hour. Card payment only. 3. Leave small kids at home. The rooms and hallways are too packed and tight to reasonably manage kids in tow. I like this place! I will be back!

After being in the area post picking up food and filling up my vehicle with gas, the visit finally happened since I was also in need of essentials like dish detergent, toilet paper, and breakfast food items which I have purchased at locations. The atmosphere felt calm in comparison to other locations I have visited throughout Chicago and Chicagoland. The goal was to purchase those needed essentials, but of course as always, I ended up purchasing other items in the process because all Dollar Tree locations vary with certain items. While walking the aisles where the breakfast foods are located, I was astonished to find both boost, and carnation breakfast essentials nutrition drink shelved. Finding them both saved me the headache of going elsewhere to get a pack of nutrition drinks which I usually drink for breakfast. I really love the assorted colors note pads that are sold at locations which comes with 75 sheets. The note pads have become my preferred choice with taking notes on at my job and keeping track of my finances throughout the year. One of my main priorities during this visit was purchasing dish soap. I was more than pleased with the bottle of homebright ultra liquid dish soap - ocean fresh scent that I found shelved. I was instantly sold on it once I noted that it cuts tough grease! I must say that I have found some nice-looking sunglasses at Dollar Tree locations around. So cool that looking at the sunglasses becomes a must during any visit to any Dollar Tree and they are usually posted up near the register. I could not resist purchasing a silver shaded pair that will not go unused being that I am an outdoor enthusiast with a love for fashion. Another item I encountered while walking the aisles was a container of fixie energy 50 mg caffeine soft chews. I just had to purchase it once I noted that the chews consisted of caffeine derived from green tea extract, and reishi mushroom which is an adaptogen with antioxidant properties. I am sold on any product that would get me going so that I can have a productive day. The last item on my priority list was toilet paper! I make it a priority to purchase toilet paper every time I visit Dollar Tree, since it is one of my most used essentials next to body soap! I found and purchased my preferred tissue brand by Scott Comfort Plus. The wait in line to be rang up at the register felt painful I must say which led to me switching lanes and going to a quicker clerk at the register. The slogan states "Hungry? Why wait?". Well, I just could not resist the urge of purchasing a snickers chocolate bar while at the register being that I was hungry at the time; its 250 calories, plus chocolatey taste helped calm my nerves on the drive back to Chicago after that painful wait in line at the register. Whether it be for the purchase of breakfast foods, dish soap, sunglasses, toilet paper, or even a snickers chocolate bar, Dollar Tree continues to be my go-to for shopping for essentials.
