Every time I come in the store there is always 1 person on the register and a long line.. This is the only Dollar General in town, and they are fast, friendly, and efficient. The lines do get long, as they are so popular! Olivehurst "Food Not Bombs" gets many of our items here on sale to support our mission of feeding and caring for the needs of the unhoused in Olivehurst and Linda. Please support this Dollar General, they are doing their best. They are under new management and the new manager is a wonderful man who is working hard to clean the store up. When I think of Dollar General, I think of rural poor communities with no other infrastructure Dollar General works. I'm not gonna say it doesn't. I will tell you the concept is good, and I applied the company for building stores in areas that a normal business would not dare to build, they bring jobs and subpar food And groceries to an area that otherwise wouldn't have it this particular Dollar General though definitely needs some help. It's over packed isles are frequently closed and they never have enough staff at the register if you're headed to the wheatland area anytime soon that Dollar General is a bigger nicer store. It might just seem like it's bigger and nicer because there are less people there every time I go because there are more options in Wheatland than there is in all of hurst off of McGowantwo stars it does what it's supposed to, but it doesn't blow me away and I dread going in there definitely two stars read more

The McGowan Dollar General used to be an embarrassment. Having this store first thing off the freeway was tragic. But all that has changed! No longer are the shelves half full and the aisles blocked by unpacked product! No longer is the parking lot and landscaping full of weeds and garbage! The shaved ice vendor is still in the parking lot, her coconut cream is the best! But going inside for cash made me want to take a shower. Now the store looks good on the neighborhood! Why it took so long to get good management when the store was so very busy we may never know. But, like so many DG's, it now makes a profound and positive impact on an underrepresented community. I've stopped in here a few times since it opened. I don't think that I will patronize this place EVER AGAIN! There is one older lady who is just the rudest person that I've ever had to deal with. I'll take my business elsewhere. I'm going to ask that other veterans to avoid this location. read more

This place was a mess... It looked like they just had a delivery and everything was on carts at the end of each isle.. You couldn't walk down the isle's because of it.. If you did walk down the isle you had to turn around because of the carts blocking the isle.. One worker passed us and was just rude. She didnt say hi how are you and just expected us to move out of her way..don't know if I'll go back. If I do it will be awhile. read more

Today was my first and last visit to this store. Apparently I misunderstood the word "dollar" in the title, because this was not a Dollar Tree or 99 cent store like I'd imagined. Both of those stores live up to their name, and I use them for minor things like dish soap or toilet paper from time to time. I drove here from Plumas Lake, bypassing my neighborhood Walgreens, because I didn't want to spend too much money on what I needed. The cost of my items were not much less than Walgreens would have been! The only thing I got for $1 was a small pack of baby wipes, which is also $1 at Walgreens! Thanks but no thanks. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would!! They are not ADA compliant at all! Boxes always in the way. My nephew tripped on their boxes cut himself on a shelf and the manager didn't care and said they don't do incident reports. I made a call to corporate and say a change for about a month and now it's right back to being horrible. read more

Rude staff not accountable for own errors so they burn you and keep your money... Avoid this place.

So there are a few workers there that are really nice, but there is one woman there that is rude beyond belief. I want to say her name is Angela? But anyway, one day a cashier charged me twice on accident for a toy I was buying my daughter. So I realized on the drive home and I went back about 15 minutes later to get my money back and the original woman that rang me up was gone, so I talked to the manager (who I think was Angela) and she would not refund my money. They said I needed to prove that I only took one toy instead of two. I asked them to check the cameras because it was minutes before, and they would not refund the money and they would not check the cameras or anything. She even insinuated that I needed to leave when I tried to ask what I could do to get my money back. Basically this store stole my money. I should have taken it to corporate but I guess it is not that big of a deal because it was just one toy. I just know I will go there sometimes, but if that woman is working I just leave because she is the most unkind woman I have ever met before. There is no way she should be working in customer service. And I understand a lot of people are difficult to help when you work in customer service sometimes, I worked at walmart for years, so I know some days you just don't want to deal with customers being rude, but this woman was beyond rude to me, which is not professional and I hear from quite a few other people that she is rude to them, also. read more

Have stopped into this store often, because it's convenient and close to home. I have seen a few different instances of associates being extremely rude to customers, I just cringe and still stop in. Last night I stopped in about 10 minutes to closing, rushed through grabbed my items, was yelled twice at by the "key" employee, "Dannette". When I told her I don't appreciate the way she was speaking to me, I was told if I didn't like it I could leave. When I told her that her behavior was appalling and I spend money there often, I was told "we don't need your business, you can leave now!" I then told her I would be contacting her corporate office to file a formal complaint and I was denied my purchase and kicked out of the store. I have NEVER been treated this poorly and won't be returning to that store!!!!! read more

This place has great prices(!!!) & unlike what others have reported, I've found the staff to be friendly. The problem is that every time I go in there it takes FOREVER to check out. Either it's slow & there's nobody behind the counter, so you have to go hunt them down (and they usually tell you that they're busy & ask you to wait?!?!) or it's super busy & of the 3 employees behind the counter, only 1 is working a register! It really sucks. Don't go in there if you're in a hurry. I've put my stuff down & left a few times. But I keep going back because I'm a sucker for a good deal & the grocery stores are just too far away. : / read more

Great hours! You can find just about everything here minus alcohol which is ok. Prices are really decent too. I will continue coming back but id like to make a suggestion to the cashiers, treat your customers with more kindness. Other than that I recommend this store. Great location next to the freeway. Very Poor, twice in same week received less than (normal) respect or service. 6:30 pm and paying for items they couldn't take a $100. WTF. Other time the clerk threw our 12 pack of Coke back at us when she made the mistake of putting in behind her counter and we paid for it, was she high?/ If is wasn't for a few of the cheap priced items we need I wouldn't go there, its getting bad and Dollar Gen needs to step up and train these people. read more

I visited this store on September 3rd around 7:30pm. There were 3 associates behind the counter and at least 6 of us in line. When another customer asked for one of the 3 employees to open another register, the female person in charge (she had the store keys) said she was on lunch, in a very snotty demeanor. I was offended because of this. I, honestly, felt like she was judging him because of his appearance. The male cashier never even greeted any of the customers as we approached the counter. This store needs some training on customer service!! And they were so busy talking when I came in that I had to point out puddles of water on the floor directly in front of their counter. It wasn't until I used the words, "slip hazard" that any of them even looked over the counter to see how bad it was. Horrible experience!!!! read more
