There's a crazy…read morebig selection, almost Walmart-like with homewares, electronics, clothing, food, furniture and even small appliances. Everything looks great and decent quality and prices are very clearly marked and very low. Among other things, I greabbed a wired mouse ($5), two pretty matching red coffee mugs ($1.50 each) and a box of Cheez-Its (dammit, only $1). Seems like a decent enough shopping plaza, though it's not particularly well populated at night.

Big Lots' focus has shifted over the years, and it isn't for the better…read more To start out, this Big Lots is in a somewhat scary part of Chambersburg. In the daytime, you should be OK, but Chambersburg Police do not recommend that you come to the Southgate area at night. With that being said, the store itself is in decent shape and pretty large (it used to be a JCPenney). The furniture selection is broad. This Big Lots also has a large seasonal selection. As for the actual merchandise, it isn't great. Big Lots used to purchase overstocks, excess inventory, etc. like Ollie's does, but their focus now is mainly in stuff branded specifically for Big Lots. You can still find brand name stuff in the electronics and food sections, but it's becoming more difficult to locate. I used to be impressed by their prices, but now the stuff simply isn't that inexpensive. They're trying to stock the store with more home decor merchandise, but I can find nicer stuff at Target for nearly the same price. There really isn't any reason to shop at Big Lots unless you have your heart set on a specific item.

You know you won't spend a ton on a single item, yet there are seemingly endless categories of items. You will even find clothes. Quirky t-shirts, fun socks, and even sometimes undergarments. Pajamas, hats, gloves, scarves in the winter. You can find state specific major league sports team stuff, and the prices are awesome. Again, great gift ideas. This particular store is always filled with decent employees, shelves fully stocked and neat, and the store is clean. I've never had an issue here. Sometimes you have to wait in line awhile to check out, but that's not the fault of the employee, that's just lack of additional employees.

I came in and kind of mindlessly roamed about. I really did not pay attention in here. I walked in, was greeted and made my way to the back of the store. To me it felt like a narrower store than most, but the set up is exactly the same. Due to my distraction coming in here I did not pay much attention as to whether or not there was anything special. The store did appear more organized and well put together than some.

Aisles going horizontally and vertically with all the usual stuff that you'll find at most DTs including housewares, electronics, clothing, cleaning chemicals and many food items. The merchandise was tidy and well organized with no boxes left out to be shelved. I was looking for one specific thing and found it, exactly where it usually is. (A laser so that I could point to stuff on the presentation.) And yes, everything in the store is one dollar. That's how it works.

As much as I love ALDI, there are a couple of things that they don't carry and I'm happy to see…read morethat this Lidl was nearby so I didn't have to settle. Lidl's shopping experience is sort of halfway between ALDI and a retail grocery store. They have an on-site bakery and a great selection of produce, plus two long aisles of frozen items including great seafood and prepared stuff. The meats here are also excellent, though a bit more expensive than ALDI. I'm a fan of the Lidl fizzy water and that was my main shop here today. In stock and priced right. I'm very pleased. Now if they could just get the prices down to be more competitive with ALDI, it would be five stars. [Review 15556 overall - 620 in Maryland - 1060 of 2021.]
