I picked up my two birds and ended up giving one to my good friend and neighbor and the second bird never made it into my recipe. Why not? Well, it was so good that my wife and I ate it. The prices are generally lower than traditional markets. The produce is fresh and the meats looked really good. They had 90% lean ground beef, grass fed for under $5.00/lb the day I was there. When I mention "seconds" it doesn't mean it's spoiled but that it might not be that perfect shape. The potatoes for example might not be that perfect oval shape but were still harvested from the same farm at the same time. When I said this is a place for browsers it's because you are never fully sure what they will have on any given day. On the day I was there there must have been 20+ different brands of hot sauces. I found some King Arthur baking items I could only find on line.

Pricing is totally in line with the major regional supermarket chains, but our impression is that quality is much better here at D&D, We grilled the steaks tonight and they were SOOOOOO good. They were actually better than the same cut and size we recently received at a chain steak house in the area just last week. Even though the cuts and amounts were essentially the same, the restaurant sliced it thin (1/4") so it covered more real estate on the dinner plate. Our "rare" steaks actually came out well done (brown through and through and warm in the middle--they were tender and OK so we didn't fuss and "send them back"). The D&D steaks were cut thicker, ~1/2", so we actually were able to burn just the outside and the middle was truly "rare," as in red, cool center. Thus, much better outcome for what supposedly was intended to be the same. We can't wait to try the country sausage we got at D&D. Most definitely, we will be back for more, and will try the baby back ribs and other offerings.

I've visited Hemp's Meat before and it's generally not a bad place, but my experience today was…read morevery disappointing. I purchased a full lamb and asked for it to be cut into small pieces. I was charged $25 just for cutting, which I accepted. However, the issue came with the weight. I was initially told the lamb weighed 38 pounds. When I questioned it and asked them to weigh it again, the number changed to 36 pounds. What made the situation worse was that I was not allowed to enter the room where the scale is located, so I couldn't verify the measurement myself. This raised serious concerns. When I got home and weighed the meat myself, it came out to only 32.6 pounds -- a significant difference. And now I do not even the price per pound which is , $8.95. I did not expect this kind of experience. Transparency and honesty should be basic, especially when customers are paying based on weight. This experience has unfortunately affected my trust.

I ordered a prime rib to smoke for Christmas dinner and set the date to pick it up and discussed how many pounds I needed for the amount of people we are having. I got there when they opened and there was already a line around the corner. No fear, they have so many people there I was in and out in 20 minutes. Told them we added two more people on and he recommended how much and cut it. I asked him to slice off the bone and butcher twine it back together. They had told me there was $5 charge when I preordered on the phone and I told him that was fine. When I told the guy today that I was smoking it and would cut off the twine, season the part where the bone was and twine back together, he told me he would net it after cutting the bone off and didn't charged me. This is choice meat but it is as close to prime as can be and their price was cheaper than other butchers I checked with.
