That may have really hit the nail on the head when it comes to describing this place. Getting here is quite the task. You really have to go out of the way to get here if you do not live in the area. And once you think you are getting near here, you start to second guess yourself and wonder if you took a wrong turn somewhere. It is literally in the middle of a farm field. Once you park and walk inside, it is wild. As was said, it is a dent and bent store when it comes to nationally recognized brands. On top of that, you may find an item that has a 'best by' date that has come and gone. You will also find items that were either discontinued or didn't fair too well when they hit the shelves. So you kind of get the last of an item in here. It is kind of a scavenger hunt when it comes to these items. Once you move on from that section of the store you enter a bulk area. Bulk items for everything from spices to candies. Each item is packaged in what appears to be generic type packaging, but is definitely a good quality product to have. I always found that ground mustard is way to expensive when you go to a big box store. I found an amount that was triple what you get for less than a dollar. I will definitely be coming back here in the future when it comes to my spicing needs. They have a good quality deli and meat section as well. Fresh deli meats readily available and some decent selection of frozen items as well as 'I never saw that in a store before' items, like a beef heart. There is a "cooler" section. I say that in quotes because it is nothing more than a cooler truck trailer packed with items that need to be chilled. Overall, don't come here with a shopping list. Just come in here with certain things on your mind to look for. Always note that you will be spending far less here as well. But you will be coming out of here with a far superior product.

The Thrifty Mountaineer is the place to visit in Morgantown if you're into cryptids, because there are so many cryptid items for sale! Plushies, t-shirts, books, keychains, patches and so much more available. Mothman is THE cryptid of the state, and there are lots of Mothman things here. We picked up some Mothman potato chips, because we were curious what Mothman chips would taste like. (Turns out, Mothman tastes a lot like barbecue Lay's.) The store is also an overstock and liquidation store, a notary public and a place to get financial coaching. I can't even make this up. This store is so cool and random, and there are surprises around every corner. The people who work here are hella chill. But you'd have to be if you own and operate a friggin' store dedicated to cryptids, right? If you sell soap that smells like the Flatwoods Monster, you can't take yourself too seriously. They were so pleasant. There are two comfy chairs in the middle of the main room where you can relax while the rest of your party shops around. I messaged him on a Saturday for availability and measurements. He provided me with measurements that would work, and I told him I could pick it up the next day. He wasn't available and said he'd send me an invoice to pay and would hold it until Monday. To me, that meant I had until the end of the day Monday to pick it up. I got the sense it was some kind of store, but he never said so nor gave me a name or any hours of operation. Just an address. I drove just over an hour on Monday to get it, and the sign on the door said they were only open Thursday-Saturday. I messaged him, and he said I should have messaged him before coming. On Tuesday, he messaged me that he'd be there for 2 hrs, but I was on my way to work. He said he'd be there Wednesday as well and would message me when he got there. He never did so I waited until Thursday. This time, I did message before leaving so he knew I was coming. When I got there, he did not have the ramp set aside. It was still on the shelf. It had a sold sticker on it, but it was very small and on the side of the ramp where it could easily have been missed by an employee trying to sell it or a customer wanting to buy it. He had to search for it himself, and I didn't see it until he showed it to me. When I got the ramp home and set it up, it was way too small. He had told me the measurements were 42" in length and 32" in height. After measuring it, it was actually 37" in length and 20" in height. WAY off. So I messaged him yet again. He said that he "didn't know" and "based on the evidence, it appears a mistake has been made". He told me that there were no refund "papers" posted all over his store and if I hadn't stormed in rude and left rude I might have noticed. Not sure what he meant with that. Maybe he wanted to swap life stories while I was there. He kept trying to throw out excuses for the previous lack of communication but I wasn't biting. I had to get home and then to work. I'd already driven more than an hour each way twice, wasting time and gas. He offered me store credit, and said that next week he would check his warehouse for the correct ramp. I didn't need or want store credit. I needed a ramp or steps. Nor did I really want to wait another week, but I would have. However, after telling him that I did not need or want store credit and asking what the alternative was if he could not find the correct ramp, he told me that I should have brought a tape measure with me and if I didn't want store credit then there was nothing he could do for me and I should sell it on FB marketplace. He told me that I had shown up without an appointment and that I couldn't just show up and demand people to run on my time. Something I did not do, nor a business that he provided a name or hours for. He told me I should have brought my own tape measure with me and that this was FB marketplace. Why does a business need to post "no refund papers" all over the place if they're being honest about their products? Seems to me as if maybe they've had multiple issues with this kind of thing. I would humbly take my losses if this had been my mistake, but he sent me misinformation. I personally sell on Marketplace all the time and I am always very honest about what I am selling. I told him he was showing poor customer service for a business. He disagreed and said that he would not be checking his inventory or getting in any more dog ramps and that I should save my gas. This guy is the rude one. I would think two, three, and four times over before trusting him or buying anything from his store.
