I want to share an extremely humiliating and disturbing experience I had at a Dollar General store that has completely destroyed my trust in this company.
I was inside the store during normal business hours, shopping like any other customer. Without warning, I was publicly accused of breaking and entering -- while the store was open. I was shocked and embarrassed. I immediately offered to show my receipt to prove I had done absolutely nothing wrong. The store clerk refused to even look at it. Instead of verifying the facts or trying to de-escalate the situation, she immediately called the police.
To make matters worse, I was then trespassed from the property -- treated like a criminal and banned from a store I legally entered and shopped in.
Based on how I was treated, I strongly believe this incident involved racial profiling and the intentional weaponizing of the police against me. Law enforcement was used as a threat instead of a last resort, even though I was calm, cooperative, and offering proof of innocence. I was denied fairness, dignity, and basic human respect.
This was reckless, unnecessary, and deeply damaging. Dollar General, you should be ashamed that this is how your customers are treated. No one deserves to be falsely accused, publicly humiliated, ignored when offering proof, and then criminalized through the use of police power -- especially under circumstances that point to discrimination.
I will never return to this location, and I strongly encourage others to think carefully about supporting a business that allows this kind of behavior to happen. read more
