First time trying this location and it did not disappoint. It's huge! Love the cleanliness and open air feel especially during COVID. They have ample shopping carts. You're first greeted by some nice accessories and self care stuff (soaps, jewelry etc). You then see the sections which are clearly marked and well organized. Their alcohol selection is huge. The prices aren't necessarily much better than grocery store but you do have to appreciate their selection. The produce seemed decent too. If you know this place you know it's always a gamble with what they might have. I scored good snacks (usually a reliable option) and some guacamole and frozen food. They were well stocked with many things and the workers were great. I'll be back. read more

A large grocery store in strip mall. Not very clean and no signs so you can find what you want. I found some good mustard that is hard to find and got some local honey at a good price. There is no one to help you . Selection of items is strange. We came for bottled water and they didn't have any!!!! The boy at ghe register did not want to be there . Probably will not return. read more

First off I would like to say that I'm a long time customer to Hopey. I like this place but recently they have been allowing a man to sit outside the store and ask for money. That would be fine with me if he didn't have a PITBULL. They are letting him sit out there everyday and he holds the pitbull by the collar, the dog is not on a leash. The dog is not chained to anything, he just holds it by the collar. I love animals but I don't think this is ok for a business to allow this to happen. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I won't be going back in until the dog is gone, I should not have to risk getting bit to go get discounted groceries. read more

Very good healthy and inexpensive grocery store, with a plus of having a really good restaurant inside for breakfast or lunch. Had a tuna melt for $5.25, which included a bag of chips. The grocery store has just about everything you need, the building feels like it been there for 40 years, but just adds to the ambience of Appalachian mountains. If you sit outside the views are amazing. I was going to add a picture, but you really need to just go and experience it. read more

Avoid. We were camping and stopped here rather than Ingles down street. Literally EVERYTHING we bought was expired. Bacon (1 day), beer (3 cases, over a year), Mac and cheese (6 months), and more. Frustrating! Place has tons of "no receipt no refund" so we're not even bothering. Go to ingles down street. read more

A lot of junk food and their produce is overpriced and close to rotting . I did d get a good deal on dog food Honest Kitchen but that is about it read more

This was a fun grocery store - perfect to start our vacation. I needed bananas & they had them. I didn't know I needed a bottle of Rose's simple sugar water, but it turns out I did, and they had it, so I bought some. Ditto for Bob's Red Mill oatmeal cups and some mint fennel tea. Souse got a chocolate chip cookie, which was good but not memorably so. We each got some yogurt. If you like grocery stores, like we do, this was a fun stop. read more

How wonderful that Hopey and Co is still around. I absolutely LOVE this place. SO much good stuff here. I not only found yummy things to eat and drink, I also found a pair of earrings for my mom in a style and color she'd been trying to find for years. And they were inexpensive too. Had the opportunity to take my dad last fall. He headed straight for the sweet baked goods and wanted them all. But his diabetes said no sir. Thankfully I was able to find some low-carb options for him that were good enough to keep him satisfied. I'm heading to Black Mountain next week. Hopey's is definitely on my to-do list for my visit. Side note: the Goodwill is no longer next door but it's just down the road so don't panic. read more

I am floored nobody's ever reviewed this place! If I were independently wealthy I would open an overstock grocer specializing in organic/health foods just like the A Save in Nashville! Seriously - I got TEN bags of groceries with brand names like Bobs Red Mill, Kashi, Bear Naked, etc for just under $85. Tons of chips, a wide variety of fancy tea with nothing over $1.99 and lots of weird candy and condiments for extremely cheap too. They had the standards like whole foods, a deli and coffee bar (they were even sampling buffalo tempeh), a bulk section and all that, but in a much less fancy schmancy environment. It looked like an old small town Thirftway or something. The one warning is to watch expiration dates, but if you think those are just guidelines like myself and happen to be in Western NC you need to stop by! A Save - I LOVE YOU! read more

It's not true that EVERYTHING is expired! A lot of things are close to being expired but who really cares if you shop wisely and know what you need! The produce is not rotten either it's sometimes a little bruised !BUT a lot of things are organic even in the bulk section . If I can choose between milk for $ 2.50 that's organic and good for 4more days or the stuff in other stores for double the price it's an easy choice for me. Warning though they have not everything all the time , sometimes you get coconut water sometimes you don't, sometimes they have organic walnuts sometimes they don't. It's easy when you are flexible or have time to come frequently. They also sell local stuff and have a coffee bar at this location. It's called HOPEY and Co now by the way! read more

Tried the breakfast burrito today at their deli counter/cafe, and it was the best I've ever eaten! I tend to get breakfast burritos wherever I go and this one was exceptional. I'm definitely stopping by a lot more for this! read more

I want to like this store more than I do--local owners, high end products largely repackaged and near their sell-by date, taking on a local mega-store just down the road. However, Hopey falls short. The stocking clerks are tremendously rude and ALWAYS in front of the yogurt and cheese sections, with no interest in letting customers see what is available. Today I was there early and the deli workers were letting their (hoodie wearing, non-glove wearing, long haired) friends stand in their work area, behind the counter, talking. Some of the cold cases work on an intermittent basis. The Buncombe county health inspector should start paying them random visits. For my part, I'll never be back. read more

Great prices and interesting selections!! Love the tigernut drink which I've never had before. Got great prices on some terra chips, the oldest bag was a month old and stale though, but my fault for not checking the date. The non-expired chips were also $1 and tasted great! Nice chocolate as well. Great place to try products from whole foods at a much more affordable price. If I was from here I would get as many groceries as I could from this location! read more

I am not really sure how I have never written a review about this location!?! This is our favorite location, well now there are only two but still. I feel like since it is in Black Mountain there is not as much traffic so you have a little more time to score the good stuff while it is here. So you should know that you will need to check the dates on things. I am a firm believer of "sell by" date is not "Expiration" date. It is just a thing that companies have to do to appease the government and make more money. But if there's a tomato sauce with garlic that expired a year ago, I am not comfortable eating it. Obviously use your best judgement. I would never be concerned of a vinegar "going bad". Speaking of, there is a roasted red pepper vinegar that I always get from there that is around $5 but in a normal store it is normally around $11. They do carry fresh produce, even local stuff! Way to go guys! They generally always have gourmet mushrooms like beech, maitake and ports. Fresh greens. Fresh meat. A ton of snack items, their prices on chips cannot be beat. Another great thing about this place is that so many things are healthy or organic, not all but most. So we shop here because it is definitely pricier to be healthy most of the time. Oh and yesterday we got a rack of lamb for $11.40, I am not even kidding! We always check the freezer for bison, venison, wild boar, lamb, etc. They just have some of the best deals. read more

Love this place! So, so reasonably priced. Sure, check everything's expiration date, but that's no big deal.

Everything they sell here is past the expiration date. Everything. So what if it's cheap - food is also well on it's way to being spoiled. Even the dill pickles I bought were rotten. Shop here at your own risk. read more

For those who are concerned about expiration dates, they need to read this article. Just because it says its expired does not mean it's bad. Its because Of various laws that they have to put some kind of a date but if a product is stored properly it can last much longer. Like dried grains (rice, lentils etc) olive oil, canned food , sauces etc.... http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2013/09/21/222082247/trader-joes-ex-president-to-turn-expired-food-into-cheap-meals read more

anytime i'm in the area, i always stop at Amazing Savings! the Black Mountain store is the best. yes, some things are close to or past the sell by date, but if you use common sense, you won't be disappointed. i've never had any problems with anything i've purchased here. my favorite sections: olive oils & vinegars, crackers (including GF) & chips, dairy (don't buy unless you are going to use by the expire date), frozen foods (great selection of vegetarian meals/entrees). they also have a GREAT selection of bulk seasonings and local products like honey & preserves. read more

Good prices, but the woman who fixed my ice coffee had to be reminded I ordered 2, not one, and she was very rude.

Lots of fab deals here--we're regular shoppers, and there are obviously plenty of unexpired items--just look--and lots of local produce, too. Check the dairy case and bulk section for Amish cheeses, meats, and roll butter. The quality is good and the prices knock-out. We can afford organic on a snug budget. Staff is friendly and laid back, too. True, the store's seen better days and other occupiers but they keep it pretty clean. Two other locations in Asheville area--we sometimes go to the Sweeten Creek store, but the parking there is a bit awkward (backs onto street). If you do find a food that's a little past prime--a quick sniff will tell you--they'll take it back &/or issue a credit. (Keep your receipt, just in case.) Note that most producers give themselves a little wiggle room on the "best by" date; yogurt and cheese is nearly always perfectly good for up to two weeks following that. We've never had a problem in 5+ years of shopping there. Definitely worth a look if you're the least bit open-minded. read more

I had a terrible experience with them. I went for a sandwich for which I used a twenty to pay and received $14 and change. I then made (while waiting for said sandwich) a grocery purchase for $5.08 cents. I gave the cashier a $10 bill and then said, 'here, let me give you a dollar so I get a $5 back.' I really didn't think I needed 8 ones in my small wallet. She, however, and after putting the money in the till, only put $6 in as the money gave her. I then said 'I need a five back' and she went to get her manager. The cashier acknowledged that I had given her the additional dollar for $11 in but the manager treated me as if I were a scammer. She told me that if the till was over $5 that night that they would contact me and have my money back. Well, I received a message that not only was the till not over my $5, it was under an additional $4 plus. Methinks that their cashier might not be penny perfect. I am sure I will share my experience, not only here, but with personal contacts. I too am a small business owner who wants repeat customers but when treated like someone who wants to get over on a business (for a measly $5!!), I will not be back. Ingles too is a local business and for the last several years (when it started as Amazing Savings) I have loved going there, I will not be (and will encourage other to not be) back. read more

love this place. It does not always have what you want on your list but worth the trip every time. The people are out of the way friendly and it is family owned! I always go to Amazing savings before I head anywhere else. read more

My wife and I, who can easily afford the other stores in town, do most of our shopping here. The organic produce and grass fed beef are excellent. Best sandwich deals in Asheville. Sometimes you can find real treasures here. And the staff could not be any nicer. read more

Whenever I'm in the Asheville area , (a good 70+ miles away from home) I shop at Amazing Savings in Black Mountain. The bargains are too good to pass up. Annie's Bakery bread (frozen on its last sale date) for $1.99 a loaf, gourmet condiments, Walnut Creek cheeses and sliced deli meats (their Mozzarella cheese is incredible) just to name a few items, at a fraction of natural food market costs. I've never purchased anything there that was spoiled or otherwise unsatisfactory. On the last couple of visits I've noticed that the store is being remodeled, with more organized shelf display and they now have a fresh bakery with delicious breads and pastries. Give this store a try! read more

Great place, great people, fantastic (amazing) savings, and great food. Our community loves this place.

This store is in a shopping center with Dollar General and a Goodwill Store and it looks run down from the outside, but it is great on the inside. It is well organized and has great prices for really good products. Most of the things I saw in the store are close to (even some past) the expiration date, so you would want to use the things you buy within a few days. I bought Barbara's whole wheat fig newtons, Balance Bars (protien bar), Nutrigrain bars, hot chocolate, tea, apple cider, granola, tomato chips and cream cheese. We have eaten most everything that we bought so far and nothing was spoiled... it was all great. The most expensive thing I bought was a Ghiradelli hot chocolate package and it was 3.99 (still a great deal). Most everything else was 1.99. Great prices for great food! read more

I last sell by date is a suggestion and many foods are good long after that date when they have been properly stored. The meats, dairy and fruit are not old. Great place to shop for bargains! read more
