We tried some sushi rolls and they were fresh and delicious. I picked up some organic peanut butter and snacks. We also picked up organic peeled tomatoes and bread flour to make marinara sauce and pizza dough. The cashier was kind and and was playful with our daughters. There was a man on line that recognized my husband's veteran hat and struck up a conversation about his service in the military. Before hitting the road we used the bathroom and it was very clean. Everyone coming and going look like they're in some kind of gumball rally where either they are inching along or ready to run over. I have learned to avoid the deli section at all costs. National Food Market is a joke (that more often than not reeks of old meat). Healthworks is great, but without produce. From May through November, this isn't a problem because the farmer's market is there to meet all my produce needs. But where on the Ave can you get produce when the farmer's market is off season? Admittedly, I walked past Sara's for months without giving it much thought. I assumed that it was just another National Food Market-esque establishment. It's hard to tell from the outside, as the windows are full of plants and the door was always closed. But after checking out Yelp, I decided to go in and see if I was missing something. Turns out, I most definitely was. Sara's has inexpensive produce of decent quality. Sometimes the lettuce or kale is a little limp, so I just skip it that week. I can shave about $10 off my produce bill for the week over shopping for the same items at Wegmans. Sure, the selection is rather limited. But it covers the basics well. And there's some unique produce available that you can't find easily elsewhere (mayme sapote and prickly pear cactus pads, for example). Like another reviewer suggested, I stop by Sara's and by what I can there, and just use the grocery store to supplement what I can't get through supporting local!
