We were staying at a friend's condo in Seagrove Beach, FL for a weeklong family vacation to include my parents, my sister and her family as well as my family. Once we arrived at the condo, we needed to go to the grocery store to fill up our refrigerator with food & drink for the week. A quick Yelp search revealed that Publix was one of the closer stores to our location. As I do not have a Publix near my house, I decided to try them out. I mean, a grocery store is a grocery store......right? Wrong! As soon as I pulled up, I noticed, that although the parking lot was crowded, there were no stray grocery carts littering the parking lot. And even though it was fairly crowded on the inside, the shelves were still well stocked and there were plenty of employees replenishing the supplies. The employees were also very friendly and willing to help if a certain item could not be located. I feel the prices are slightly higher than my local Louisiana (New Orleans) grocery store, but I was willing to pay a little more to shop in a store where I found everything I needed. If I am ever back vacationing in the area, this Publix will be my grocery of choice.

Walking into that store feels less like grocery shopping and more like accidentally wandering into a tourist-trap convenience store wearing a Publix costume. Everything is pristine. Everything is organized. Everything is friendly. And everything costs an absolutely absurd amount of money. A quick trip for a few basics turns into a receipt that looks like you accidentally bought groceries for a small wedding. You grab a few staples such as milk, eggs, sandwich meat, maybe a jar of mayo and suddenly you're staring at a total that makes you wonder if the cashier slipped a Rolex and a beach condo deposit into your bag. And the worst part is that nothing about the experience justifies it. This isn't some boutique organic market. It's just a normal Publix that realized it sits between Seaside vacation rentals and Highway 30A tourists with sunburns and no other options. The pricing feels less like inflation and more like a calculated shakedown of anyone within five miles who needs groceries. And this isn't just imagination. Publix has been getting hammered by shoppers across Florida for prices that can run 30-50% higher than competitors on basic items. People are literally posting receipts online because they can't believe how much they paid for ordinary groceries. That's exactly how this store feels. You walk in thinking: "Publix -- where shopping is a pleasure." You walk out thinking: "Publix -- where shopping is a financial mugging with fluorescent lighting." Sure, the employees are nice. Sure, the floors are clean. But none of that makes it easier to swallow paying vacation-town ransom prices for groceries that cost dramatically less literally anywhere else. The Seagrove/Seaside Publix isn't a grocery store. It's a well-lit toll booth for people who ran out of food on 30A.

While the store may not have the flashiest decor, its focus on quality and community makes it a reliable choice for everyday shopping needs. Overall, Piggly Wiggly provides good value and a down-to-earth shopping experience. It is a little bit dusty but it takes me back to the country so I enjoy it. They even offer a buffet breakfast and dinner where it's self serve and at certain hours I think that's great if you don't feel like cooking or going into town to grab food.

Nothing against the food, it is what it is. They have their fair share of outdated merchandise on their shelves, you get what you pay for. But this review is regarding their price integrity and attitude when you call them out on it. I live paycheck to paycheck so I have to watch my expenses. That being said, I bought an item behind the register for what I thought was $3.39. Well, it rang up $5.99 at the register. The cashier walked around and even told the manager person that it was $3.39. He looked closely at the items and decided that the item I picked up was missing its sign "I will let you have it for this price but it is actually $5.99, the sign is missing", okay....I have worked in grocery before, I do not need to be lectured about your store's shortcomings as far as signage are concerned. This problem is not my problem, and if I did this on a regular basis, I could understand the "I'm gonna let you have it just this once" part, but I am not like that, so what he said was offensive and unnecessary and the cashier rang it in as $3.99 (instead of $3.39) and acted angry at me as well, like I was supposed to know that. I refuse to shop at a store that treats me -repeatedly!- like a piece of crap. These small towns are like that, I notice. If you're not related to someone -and the gene pool in this area is pretty shallow- then you are treated like crap. This is probably the last straw for me, I work in Panama City Beach. The prices are a little higher, but when the sales are on it works out well, and the employees at these better grocery stores know how to treat their customers. Definitely not wasting my hard-earned money 'shopping local' from here on. Not worth it. And none of these snots know how to say "have a nice day" or "thank you for shopping with us". No one cares. None of the spawn from Bristol/Blountstown, anyhow. It isn't what it used to be. The times they're changing, at least in these backwoods towns. Real customer service is still out there, it's in places like Publix and Winn Dixie. The Piggly Wigglys are all pretty much rude, across the board. Avoid if possible.i
