If I could give this place no stars, I would. Do not come here. I repeat, for your own good, DO NOT COME HERE. The pricing may seem better but everything is a gimmick. You will leave with crappy service and paying around the same as the quality places. This place is so unbelievably unprofessional. The staff treat you with no respect and do not value your service, time, or money. If you make a reservation and someone comes earlier, welp, there goes your reservation. They will mess up and then have the audacity to tell you there's nothing they can do. Don't waste your time, these people need to be shut down for a number of reasons. read more

I rent from various different companies numerous times a month. The one thing that irks me is the nickel and dime tactics. I reserve a compact and they give me a Ford Mustang with rear wheel drive in Boise ID. He then proceeds to offer me an upgrade to a larger FRONT wheel drive vehicle for extra or a 4 wheel drive for even more. I asked where is my compact FRONT wheel drive vehicle and he says they are all out. So all he has for the quoted price is the rear wheel drive FORD Mustang. Argh!! The gentleman was nice and polite but I don't appreciate the bait and switch tactics they pull. read more

Absolute worst experience with a rental agency! First, I booked via Southwest Airlines site which quoted $16 per day compact and $20 per day full size. We were quoted $200 a day for full size upon arrival. They then offered insurance for $75 a day ($12 for liability only). They then proceed to have you approve each charge individually prior to rental (beware of any company that attempts to do that). The worst part is that we made it 20 miles outside of the airport when the change oil and engine lights turned on!!! Unbelievable. I called Dollar to advise them of their unorthodox method of "up-selling" and poor condition of the vehicle. Robert in customer service advised that it wasn't their fault because we approved all charges indivdually and the state of repair of the vehicle is our fault?? I've never had a rental car agency blame me for their excessive rates and poor condition of their vehicle. I will notify the appropriate agency and likely take them to small claims to address my issues as CORPORATE customer service was very poor. Save yourself the headache and rent from a larger, reputable company when you fly into Boise! read more

Yeah, this place is just heinous. They would not use my out of state Visa card. I kid you not. They wanted some weird bank authorization and all that jazz to get it done. You'd be absolutely insane to rent a car from these rip-off artist! On three separate occasions they lied about data to raise the fee and my insurance company verified in fact that they were lying. When they check me out my car was in perfect order and clean. It had no defects no scratches as it was a new car the rental check in attendant verify that it was all clean and good and we were free to go. Later there was an additional $15 charge on my account for something that absolutely wasn't true. They said that the windshield was chipped. It wasn't and I never signed off on it nor was it ever brought to my attention and I'm 100% certain that the windscreen was in perfect working order when I left the car. I asked them to reverse the charge. They reluctantly said that they would but it would take five to seven business days from now and they would not send me an email verifying that they're going to do it they claim that they've done it but it would takes forever to get their system up and running and it would be up to me to call to get that receipt. Please for your own sake don't cut costs by using this absolute crap stack of liars. There is a reason that they already have such low ratings I guess. Worst possible experience. Reserved a car with a total due of $110. Included my flight number on my reservation because the website says it will look at delays. Get to the counter and they have no cars. Send me to National who is now charging me $190. When I said, "what's the point in reserving a car?" The rep said, "your flight was late so I gave it away." The guy at the counter Ethan, was courteous, professional, and a pleasure to deal with. After booking a rental online we were charged additional fees at pick up. Then at drop off (24 hours later) they tacked on even more! A 24 hour rental (in which time we drove maybe 15 miles) came in at just over $91. For a 'ford focus or similar' vehicle. The price online when we booked it was around $50. Not to mention that when we picked the car up we waited in line for over 15 minutes as there was only one attendant to help customers. We will definitely not use Dollar again. At the very least, if I'm going to have to pay SO much for a 1 day rental I would like to receive decent service. read more

The process of picking up the vehicle was a bit confusing, because I'm a Dollar Express member, usually I can just go out to where the vehicles are located and pick up the car and go, avoiding to line at the main counter. But in this case, after hauling my luggage all the way out to the rental cars, I found out I had to go inside and get the keys and do the paperwork. Then go back outside and get the car. I was nicely surprised, however, by getting a SUV instead of a small car. I do " Lock low and go" and most the time I get upgraded. Sweet! read more

It's been four months and I finally got my car damage claim (Dollar against me) finalized. Now, I like Dodd-Frank even more, but maybe the rent-a-car companies need similar regulation. I had a very good experience renting a car from Dollar at the Boise airport. I had reserved online so all was ready when I got to the desk. They even upgraded my car, so I had a nice Nissan Altima that was easy to drive and got me where I needed to go. Got in to the airport and was in a hurry to get my car because it was late. I was asked if I wanted the LDW? "What is that?" I asked. Loss Damage Waiver. Now I know my credit card AND car insurance both cover these kind of rental car accident losses, so I quite clearly DECLINED. Look very carefully at the fine print of what you are signing at the counter, even if it takes 10 minutes to read through it. Stay away from Dollar Rent a Car! I was initially impressed with there low rates and set up my reservation for a mid-sized car at a rate of $26/day. Upon arrival I was asked if I would like to upgrade my vehicle to a full-size and if I would like to purchase additional insurance. I verbally declined these upgrades. After the customer service representative finished with my paperwork, he had me acknowledge my rental via their POS system. Now I assumed that I was agreeing to the fact that I declined these additional upgrades, but in fact, I deceitfully agreed to them. I'll take some responsibility in this matter and say that I was jet-lagged because I didn't notice these charges at the time. It wasn't until the next day (back at home) that I saw what had happened. I immediately called Dollar's "Customer Service" number and after explaining the situation, I was told that I was responsible for the charges, not them. Their methods of deceitful up-charging is enough to make me never return. On a side note: My car was supposed to be parked in stall L26; it wasn't. I had to use the remote panic button to find the car on the other side of the lot. read more

I rented a car from Dollar on 5/5/14 and drove it about 4 miles to a Wendy's to eat lunch. When I returned to the car after lunch it would not start...dead battery...engine wont turn...clicking...etc. Having pending sales appts later that afternoon I quickly dialed the phone number for roadside assistance listed on the rental agreement paper jacket. I was cheerfully informed by "Bobbie" that since I declined the rental insurance from Dollar I had to arrange for my own roadside service. Outrageous. Compounded by her finishing the phone call by asking "is there anything more I can help you with?" Do NOT rent from this company that does not provide any support other than a car that if operating when it leaves the lot becomes your responsibility to maintain if you decline their coverage. In my case I spent $40 to have the car jumped whereupon I promptly returned it and received a replacement car. No problems with that one tho. But still, I mean really.... read more

Reserved a Ford Focus type econo vehicle for pick up at 5pm. Arrived at 4pm. Waited in line at counter until 4:30PM (two customers ahead of me) I was told because I was early they did not have my car ready yet (understandable) At 5:30 I was told they could give me a huge SUV but if I wanted the econo car I reserved I would have to wait! At 6PM I settled for a Mid-size because I was on a tight schedule. Waited 30 min.again while trying to return the car. One attendant at the reservations desk and one attendant for returns at an airport... really ? Maybe "Dollar" is actually what the company has budgeted for staffing payroll! Apparently the lesson here is If you are going to rent from Dollar be sure to allow for extra time and don't be shocked if they don't actually have any cars! read more

WORST customer service i've ever experienced. My boyfriend and i have both formally complained (as we were told to do by corporate) and neither of us have gotten a call or response back. They charged us for an upgrade that we didn't actually make. We booked a truck (which they falsely advertise that they have Dodge Ram "or similar" when in reality they only have Chevy Silverados. Which is fine in theory, but the fact that you can't raise the seat up at all as none of their trucks have this option, is incredibly unsafe when you're making a trip over the pass. My brother is 6 foot and could barely see over the hood,it was ridiculous. So we went in to ask for another truck and she said they only have one kind. Then she said she can give us a small SUV in stead but then had the nerve to "upgrade" us $26/day totaling another $100 on top of our original payment we booked. She kept saying "well i dont know how you got that truck so cheap anyway, that's why we're charging you more". We spend 20 minutes arguing with her but it was 10pm and we had a 3 hour drive ahead of us so we took the car knowing we couldn't argue with her anymore and she said corporate can help. Well we spent the next 3 days on the phone with corporate telling us they are sorry but the only place that can refund us is the Boise location itself. So we went back upon return to the Boise location and talked to two managers (one said her name was Dana) and was literally told "its not our problem your not tall enough" with a massive attitude. I was blown away! I'm still waiting for a refund on the upgrade charge, as its the LEAST they could do to make this right. Especially in a time like this where families are trying to get home and see each other, I've never witnessed such hostility and poor customer service. I've already reported their business and have complained to corporate telling them of their management they have in place. I promise you ANY other car rental place is better. DO NOT USE DOLLAR. Unfortunately I can't give zero stars... I had a 4 hour drive to visit my ailing mother out of Boise Idaho. When I got 1/2 hour out I realized the car seat did not recline and therefore the car should not have been rented. I called the rental at Boise Airport. I was told to bring the car back but to be sure to fill it up otherwise I would be charged, when I complained Juan told me to call customer service. I did so and they are only open from 8 to 5 pm. I called the 24/7 emergency line but they were unable to help me. I got lost and went ahead with my 4 hour uncomfortable journey. The next day I called customer service. After being transferred 3 times I was finally told that they could not help me until I returned the car. Do not rent from Dollar! Others offer the same price and much better service! Dollar had an undersized car. Aggressively suggested an upgrade. Taking us from $169 to $448 for the trip. Returned car 10 hours later and was charged $163. Rented the same car at Hertz for 1/3 the cost. So no more dollars for Dollar. read more

We love the Boise airport; it's clean, modern and easy to navigate . We do NOT love dollar rent a car; for the second year in a row, we waited in line for 30 minutes before the lone service rep could deal with our reservation, only to find out that they have no cars and we will wait another 30 - 60 minutes ! We made our reservation over 2 months ago; it is unconscionable that they don't manage their inventory better. We will never rent from Dollar again. read more

This office is understaffed and not supported well by their national counterparts. I was up in Idaho on vacation andI ended up in the hospital. It was not an injury/illness that came about from vacationing. I could not return the car. They told me they do not have any staff that could come pick it up even tho I was willing to pay, I could not add on another driver to drop it off, and they offered no solution other than if I died, they could then do what they normally do in those circumstances. I had to drive it back to them to return their car, rather than fly back from where I fell ill so as to get back to the doctors and hospital who could help me. Never use this office, it should be shut down, and I will never use dollar/thrifty/ or hertz (their corporate owner) again! read more

Reservations are FALSE NEWS and meaning less at Dollar. Dollar rental cancelled my order saying they had no cars available and it was very busy. They offer me a Cadillac for $125 per day instead of the $18/day amount for my reservations for $11 days. They sold my reserved car to another customer paying more. Be careful when picking up your rental, I arrived early by 2 hours, they tried to charge me a hourly pick up fee, Normally rentals are based on 24 hour periods, pickup at noon return by noon on the day of return. When I returned the car, I returned the car a day early, 3 days instead of 4 days, they charged for the full 4 days, they did credit the charges, but be careful they will stick it to you if you do not watch. read more

I am a express member for Dollar. They have 2 lines at the counter. One is for express and one is for everyday business. The counter girl serviced everyone in the everyday business line and then welcomed me to the counter after 45 minutes. I was also the last customer in both lines. I asked her why do you have a express line? She said for express members. If you don't get express service, why have two lines at all. It is the stupidest thing I have ever seen at Boise airport. Smooth, easy, reasonable process from start to finish; can't think of how it could be any better.

What a con. I was persuaded into upgrading to a luxury vehicle for a "discounted rate". What I wasn't made aware of is that rather than being charged the hourly rate for each hour over 24 hours, Dollar charges a full day's rate on the upgrade. When I called to see if this was something that could be prorated to hourly like the base rental was, I was told it was in the "fine print of the contract" that the upgrade is charged at a daily rate and isn't prorated. There in lies the con. The clerk clearly knew I needed the car for a little over a day, and rather than explain to me that the upgrade is charged at a full daily rate and not prorated, she told me the authorization charge was for two days, but one day would fall off and I'd be charged for actual usage when I brought it back. Shame on me for not taking the time to have my attorney look over the small print after my long flight into Boise. Use a different rental company that isn't hiding fees and charges in the "fine print", even if it is a few dollars more. read more

Worst place ever-this place charged every coverage possible onto my sister's reservation when she went to pick it up without fully going over it all-she realized the mistake on the way home from the airport and when she went back they refused to correct/change anything...they even made her pay for the FULL DAY after less than 1 hour gone ($125!!!!!!) and her credit card didn't have enough for a entire new agreement on it so they left her stranded at the airport with her 5 month old baby!!!! They even made her give up the keys and went out into short term parking to 'collect' the car life she was a thief or something-and they made her pay for the parking! CHEATING, DIRTY, MONEY-HUNGRY RUDE PEOPLE. They were completely unwilling to look at the circumstances and get any authorization to waive/combine into another rental at all or work with her. She was going to take the car for five days-well she cancelled the rest of the reservation and they will never get any of our business ever again. read more

I went through the same bait and switch tactics. I have rented from them two times this year after I was able to get lower prices online compared to Enterprise, which is who I usually rent from. The first time I rented, the young woman at the desk was very nice and I got the car and price I was quoted, although I had to suffer through some questions which were more invasive than I had experienced in the past about exactly what I was doing in Boise and where I will be staying. I didn 't enjoy that, but got the car I asked for so when I returned to Boise on another trip a few months later, I tried them again. This time, a man with a goatee was there and he employed the same tactics but to an even further degree. He tried to buddy up to me like a used car salesman, using the information from the questions he asked me as a means to get me to go for more expensive options, including extremely high-priced insurance. In the end I took an option that was more expensive than what I was quoted for online - I seriously regret that now. I should have walked away. Please learn from my mistake and DO NOT RENT from them. You will feel high pressure salesman tactics and will have renters remorse when all is said and done. I am going back to enterprise -they are not perfect but do not pressure like Dollar does. read more
