I have been at Dolce Cupcakes Boutique over a dozen times, for my once-a-week sweets indulgency (because any indulgency must be especially satisfied) and for my European-reminiscent latte craving (I confess, I've only been twice in Europe and, after all, latte is an Old Continent's creation). Dolce Cupcakes Boutique has this fine specialty coffee shop look and feel, not common to this area, but clearly defined in its "boutique" name's descriptor. What pops to the eye is that the place is neatly clean, with its mostly-white and pale-colored minimalist decoration, harmonizing with the young and friendly staff, which includes the owners.
Cupcakes are really flavory, not overly sweet and with the right texture; not too dry, not too wet. I always go for the carrot-flavored and my wife is crazy about the dark chocolate delicacy. You can select your favorite from the shiny display among its 10 to 15 flavors. I know it is debatable if I consider this a limited menu but I want to think they want to keep their flavors offerings low so they don't compromise their quality. Or it might be their other cake business (they make cakes for birthdays, weddings and I guess any celebration, for that matter) not allowing to expand its core cupcake craft. Cupcakes size are enough to make you feel that you have not been ripped-off but leave you wanting to get another one. After all, that's the idea, isn't it?
The soft atmosphere created by the European, jazzy and bossa background music counterpoints the strong Arabic-bean after-taste of the latte, the espresso and the cappuccino, served in beautiful porcelain cups if this is your preference. There is no pretension of a barista shop in this establishment but I don't mind exchanging an art-less latte for a few lesser quarters, although the occasional heart and flower is displayed in your cup's milky crown.
They have added a few sandwiches to the menu that are as delicious as their cupcakes cousins, and I just could not help but to think about this being a good start for a future business expansion into a specialty eatery or something in that nature. Mallorcas, macaroons and coffee cakes add to the sugary pleasantries you will find in this place.
Dolce Cupcake Boutique is a niche business in Dorado, owned by locals. It is a cozy little place, with a good product, that invites you to come in, grab a sweet bite and chill. It is a hidden secret that I want to disclose to the world. At Mahi-Mahi Shopping Center in Dorado, P.R., it is worth a try. read more
