Review #1,046 Posted on 4.26.26…read more We came here on Thursday the 23rd while in San Juan area for my buddies 50th birthday. This spot we had seen on social media a ton for being famous for their Mallorca sandwich, a special type bread, we got the one with bacon & American cheese. Man, I made the mistake of doing the bacon instead of ham, overthought that deal. I tried my buddies with ham n cheese and I think that was way to go. I loved how this spot had that super old school feel of like a diner. You can sit at one of the table tops, or you can do the countertop too, which has tons of seats, we all were able to sit there. I'd 100% recommend this spot, but get the ham n cheese mallorca sandwich, don't overthink it.

After a few minutes, people started trickling down and soon the place was close to being full. I liked the mallorca with ham, bacon, cheese! It was delicious. They looked small but they were filling. The pastries displayed at the window were inviting. If you're dining in, you have to tell your server that you're getting some pastries that are on display then you ask the person at the counter who also serves as the cashier to get them for you. The guava pastry was good. The vanilla bread with strawberry and pineapple/lemon was okay. They looked better than they tasted in my opinion. Payment for everything would be at the cashier after dining. If you're in San Juan, this is a place to try!

It was such a delicious treat! This gelato shop is located on Ashford Avenue in Condado. There were…read moremounds of gelato with so many unique flavors & combinations. We just couldn't pass it up. So, let's talk about the history. It all started out as "Anita La Mamma del Gelato" in Tel Aviv back in 2002. "La Mamma del Gelato" that you see on the walls inside this shop represent the mother (Anita Avital) & son (Nir) duo who started it all. It's grown to many more locations to include NYC and Miami. There's even a sub-brand of Anita Gelato called "Golda Gilda" that is very popular in Israel. I have to be honest when stating that I've never heard of either gelato brands until seeing this shop near our hotel. We each decided to get the smallest cup size that includes 2 flavors. I selected Pavlova Mixed Berries and Chocolate Pistachio & Kadayif. There was a white chocolate version of it as well, but I decided to stick with the traditional milk chocolate. I don't remember what flavors my husband picked out. I'm pretty sure he enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed mine. I especially loved the chocolate pistachio one. That layer of pistachio cream & crispy kadayif was delightful. I didn't taste any pavlova in the mixed berry gelato, but it was still wonderful. They're very good about giving out samples for those who are unsure and want to get the perfect flavor. I wish we had returned to try more. It was a delicious & relaxing experience. The service was great. There's plenty of seating inside and outside. We fortunately arrived in the late afternoon when it wasn't too busy. Definitely do not pass this one up when in Condado.

For the record, this is the location that is in Condado and not the one that is in Old San Juan. It…read morewas right by our AirBnB and what a good problem to have. We went three times during our 3 day visit (it would have been 4 had my partner had his way). Every single time we tried something new and I just want to say that this is good gelato. They gelato is delicious with unique flavors. The staff is always kind and works incredibly quickly to get people moved through the line. They are open what feels like all day and into the late evening. And it is reasonably priced for a good amount of gelato. Really, you can't go wrong here. I didn't encounter a bad flavor. Plus, they let you try flavors so give it a whirl before you decide. Definitely a place to stop in if you're in the area. Maybe even multiple times if you like it as much as we did. No shame!

I've bought them at the grocery store for my mother over the years when I couldn't find Menier. I was hoping to see some unique desserts at Chocobar Cortés. Let's just say that the chocobar at this location was not what I was expecting. It's like an express version of their original one in Old San Juan. This is located in the lobby of the Condado Palm Hotel. There are 2 entrances. Don't make the same mistake we did by trying to access at street level. That door is locked. You'll need to enter through the hotel lobby. The service is very slow here. There was only one other person there. We ordered a box of 6 chocolates and payed for it. I'm guessing he was making a drink for the other guest because he asked us to wait a few minutes. It ended up being longer so he told his colleague (who just came back from a break) to make up the chocolate box for us. Unfortunately, it took even longer as this other guy was more interested in the 2 young girls who just walked in. The chocolate bonbons were good, but nothing unique. It's the same artisan chocolates that you see everywhere for the same high price. Perhaps this location is better for their specialty cocktails in the evening time. I was looking forward to trying the choco-latte at some point. I doubt there will be a next time.

No one came over until we finally walked into the restaurant ourselves. Once seated, we were immediately rushed because the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes and the bar was already closed. The food was where things went completely off the rails. The steak was flavorless, unseasoned, and brutally tough. I needed a serrated steak knife and a full back-and-forth sawing motion, so long I honestly thought the restaurant might reopen the next day before I separated a bite. What finally came loose was a fibrous, nearly raw rope of meat that was simply not edible. We told the server plainly that the meat was not tender and had no flavor. He went behind the bar, where we could clearly see him talking to the chef, who could also clearly see us. A few minutes later, the server returned and said the chef was willing to offer 20% off the steak. I said I wasn't eating the steak. I wanted to pay my bill, but I asked that the chef come out and speak to me directly. Knowing where this was headed, I recorded the conversation. I asked the chef if he genuinely believed it was acceptable to send out a $40+ steak, then offer about $8 off for something that couldn't be eaten. His response: "Yes, the steak is good." I told him I couldn't cut through it with a serrated knife. He repeated: "The steak is good." Over and over. At that point, I told him he was an idiot. I paid the bill -- and only later noticed I wasn't even given the 20% discount that had been offered. I still tipped the server 20%, because this wasn't his fault. As I left, I told the chef I would never be back, that I would write a review, and encouraged him to learn what good food actually is. It's painfully obvious this business is not in a good spot. Serving food of that quality, refusing to remove it from the bill or remake it, and instead arguing with a customer tells you everything you need to know. That's not confidence -- that's financial stress. Don't expect this place to be around much longer. If they are somehow still around, they need to start by getting rid of the Napoleon-complex, man-bun chef with the bad attitude, tiny vocabulary, and an objectively inferior palate. Arrogance doesn't tenderize meat, and confidence doesn't replace seasoning, skill, or basic competence!
