I was in the East LA area this morning and I began to crave Tamales. So, I did a quick search of…read morethe area and this location popped up. I decided to pick some up on my way home. This is one of those LA places that reminds you why tamales are a whole love language. The service here is straight‑up old‑school friendly, quick, warm, and no nonsense. You walk in, you're greeted, and before you know it you're walking out with a bag that smells like pure comfort.
I grabbed two types of tamales, the beef red sauce tamales and the cheese and green chile tamales. The beef ones hit first, super flavorful, packed with tender shredded beef, and that red sauce has a deep, earthy chile flavor that tastes like someone's grandma has been perfecting it for decades. As a matter of fact the lady making them looked like my mother. Back to the tamales... Not too spicy, just rich and bold.
The cheese and green chile tamales were the perfect contrast. Soft, melty cheese with that mild green chile that gives a gentle warmth instead of a kick. It's the kind of tamal you can inhale without thinking twice. The masa on both was on point, moist, fluffy, and not overly dense.
If you're in East LA and craving classic tamales done right, La Indiana is absolutely worth the stop. Fast service, comforting flavors, and tamales that taste like tradition.
