The camp itself is clean, well-organized, and the staff were friendly. We'd booked a Deluxe tent but were upgraded to a Suite due to low occupancy, which came with a dedicated parking spot right next to our tent -- a real convenience, especially for anyone with mobility concerns. The Venue: The views from the camp are genuinely beautiful, but potential guests should know that despite the "Columbia River Gorge" branding, the camp is not actually on the river. The food was our biggest disappointment. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt since it was opening weekend, but by day two it was clear the kitchen wasn't hitting its stride. My burger was fine, but my wife's chicken sandwich was overly salty with a panko coating that tasted previously frozen. The fries on both visits were over-salted. On the positive side, the s'mores at the fire pits in the evening were a nice touch, and with low occupancy, the fire pit area was relaxing. The food is something easily within the capability of camp management to improve, and I suggest they do. This is not an inexpensive venue and the food is priced accordingly, so you want it to be really good. We expected glamping to skew toward an older crowd looking for a comfortable outdoor experience, but the demographic here leans young - couples, families with kids, dogs. The noise wasn't a problem at night, but occupancy during our stay was only 30%. With more kids and pets it could get a bit noisier at night. It's worth knowing what to expect. And if you've ever glamped internationally - say, a tented safari camp in East Africa - you best calibrate your expectations accordingly. This is a nice, roomy tent with a bed, not a luxury wilderness tent. The Service: The service was friendly and helpful! There is no electrical power in the tents, other than what you get from a battery pack, which the camp provides you with. I also got a large battery pack capable of handling my CPAP machine at night. You need to let them know about this ahead of time. The Tent: The tent is very roomy! While there are two chairs on the tent porch, there is no table of any kind, which makes sitting out there with a bottle of wine and glasses somewhat inconvenient. There is definitely room for a small table. We had the feeling the tents are geared to move people towards the group area and the restaurant/drink tent where there are lots of tables and chairs. There is also no place to hang anything up. Just putting a couple of hooks somewhere would be worth it, we thought. The bed was a very nice King and I have to say quite comfortable! I brought my own pillow from home, though, which is always a nice thing to remember to do. The cold at night was uncomfortable, but that's April in the Gorge, and not a fair criticism of the camp. However, we had very warm comforters and blankets, and the gas fireplace helped! We slept well! Tip: Start the fireplace earlier in the day, before dusk. Our first night we waited till evening and the fireplace never was able to overcome the cold, but the next day when we started in earlier, it warmed up the tent much better! Exploring the Area: If you are like my wife and I, we like to explore. So, we looked at the map and thought we would drive up to Klickitat Canyon, but soon found ourself off the grid with no phone signal, so our GPS went crazy and we abandoned the effort after going in circles a couple times. LOL. Tips: This was an unforced error on my part as I should have downloaded some offline maps of the area and also brought along a paper map, just in case. These are things I recommend you do if you want to head out into the hills and dirt roads. We were rusty and it showed. Winery visits: There are a number of wineries within easy driving distance. We visited Jacob Williams and highly recommend it. Delicious wine, amazing view, and food to boot! Bottom line: Under the Canvas on the Columbia Gorge is a pleasant enough stay in a beautiful setting, good for families, but not something we'll be repeating. And for the price point, the food needs to improve.

The tent is bare bones as described - a bed, toilet/sink/shower and a table/sofa. You're living out of your suitcase as there isn't a place to hang up (or dry off clothes after getting wet in the rain). There is no electricity in the room so you do need to be on top of charging the rechargeable lanterns by the bedside and bathroom, which they do provide power banks for. There is also a fireplace which was so needed as it's cold in October. There are no trails on the premise so you do have to drive else for anything - waterfalls, trails, etc. And unfortunately the moon was bright one night and the next night was cloudy so we were not able to stargaze. There is Embers, the onsite restaurant and it's really good. Ordered breakfast and dinner for 2 nights. The selection is good so it feels like there's something for everyone. At night there are smores to roast by the campfire. They also have a lot of games to play in the lobby tent. One odd thing is that the neighbors don't seem friendly as they posted signs all the way from the main road to right where the lodgings are saying Under Canvas not welcomed. It does give a bit of a negative vibe.

This campground (specifically site #13) was very nice. Ok, first off, it is a campground. It is not a hike in and pitch your tent kind of deal. It is a drive up and pitch your tent not too far from you car kind of deal. We stayed at site #13 and our friends stayed at #14. #14 was big which was good as they had 5 people in their party. #13 is pretty small, but there is a secret to that site. When we first drove up to it and saw the picnic table and fire pit and the small space for the tent we thought meh. Been here done this, but here is the secret. The secret is that there is a path just beyond the fire pit that will take you about 15 seconds to wind down. That will take you to a very quiet and secluded open area just above Still Creek where you can pitch your tent. Still Creek will be flowing through your sleep all night long. It did for us for 2 glorious nights. If you can get site #13 go for it. You will not be disappointed.

This campground isn't a safe place to stay or to volunteer…read more I left my job in Yosemite and moved to Oregon to come stay at this campground for two seasons as a volunteer campground host. My stay here was horrible and traumatizing, and the Columbia River Gorge staff were even worse. I stayed anyway because I needed the volunteer credit on my resume, and didn't want to let one/two bad ranger/s ruin it for me. Also, I'd invested a lot in coming, and wanted to make it work. The shower that was supposed to be available for my use was broken. I was given a code to an old ranger station down the road, where I could use a decaying shower shared by the whole fire crew. The last time I opened the door to that bathroom, a bat flew out at me. The person who hired me quit before I arrived, and directed me to contact her boss, the recreation coordinator/manager (Ranger Joshua Daker), with zero supportive staff. I complained numerous times that I had been misled. He apologized numerous times, saying he was "new to this" and "short staffed." I asked him at least eighteen separate times in writing for an opportunity to tour the USDA Forest Service Office in Hood River. Per my contract and my interview, I was supposed to have a chance to interact first hand with Forest Service staff. I was repeatedly denied this opportunity. The recreation manager said "it's just a bunch of cubicles, there's nothing to see." I told him I was hoping to meet other staff or peruse their books about the area. He responded to this by leaving three paperback books in the bathroom maintenance closet for me. I literally never met any of his coworkers or supervisors. My only interactions were with this man who I was passed off to, who seemed mostly irritated by my existence. After six weeks of volunteering, I was attacked twice within one week. First, a man charged me with his vehicle while I was attempting to wave him down to ask where he was going. A few days later, a different man chased me into the woods in the middle of the night. It was terrifying. I called 911 twice, and it took them over 15 minutes to get there. While I was being actively chased. I tried multiple times to contact rangers or law enforcement from the forest service, and was unable to reach anyone for weeks. When I finally did reach a FS LEO, the first thing she did was ask me to cover for her and say yes if anyone asked me if I'd seen a creepy man with brown hair camping illegally. When I told the recreation manager, who was ostensibly responsible for overseeing my position, he left me a long and rambling (stoned) voicemail about how law enforcement is short staffed due to ICE recruitment and how there just aren't enough police in the gorge. I told him I was upset and thinking about leaving. He asked me to stay. He continually said he was new to the job and appreciated my help. The next week, I was evacuated from the campground due to a wildfire. This greatly exacerbated my disability. I reached out to the recreation manager numerous times asking for help. He literally ghosted me. There was a ton of crime at the campground, as well as lots of vagrant trespassers scaring teenage girl campers, and I was virtually never able to get a response from a ranger or law enforcement. I emailed the recreation manager's boss asking how to file a formal complaint. I told him I was in poor health due to being attacked at work and needed help. I went to Portland to get checked out by a doctor, and came home to a letter telling me I had 48 hours to evacuate the campground. The Forest Service literally fired me from a volunteer position that I was doing under my right to work ticket as a disabled person in direct retaliation for asking how to file a complaint. I went down to the court house, and they said this was illegal. But the forest service, who had ghosted me all season every time I asked for help, suddenly had the resources to send law enforcement to my site with guns. That was scary. I knew I hadn't done anything wrong, but I was being treated as if I had. I ended up moving into a homeless shelter in The Dalles until I was able to find a different position. After I left, campground reviews went down. The toilets stopped working (according to reviews on recreation.gov ), which I presume was due to a lack of maintenance. I was a paid volunteer with a contract, but the forest service has still not paid me (over 10 weeks later) for my last month of work or given me the volunteer pass I'm entitled to per my contract. I literally have to file a discrimination complaint with the USDA just to get those things. If you're thinking about volunteering for the Forest Service or the Columbia River Gorge, I strongly recommend against it. It isn't safe, and they literally rip off disabled people. Maybe some Forest Service offices DESERVE to be shut down, and this is definitely one of them. Truly disgusting and corrupt.

The website was very easy to use, all of the rooms are a little different but explained perfectly. We received a phone call the day of our arrival advising our room was ready early, which was a nice touch. Check in was easy and the gal working was so pleasant and friendly, she even walked us down to our room and told us about the amenities and answered any questions we had. The grounds are very clean and they had a nice firepit, cornhole, and even a a bbq and cute little picnic table we played cards at in the evening (we would have loved to have a light or lantern to use once the sun started setting so we could keep playing our game). It is an easy walk in to town which was nice so we could enjoy some beers at the local brewery. Our room was very clean and updated. Our bed was comfortable and the ac worked great. Water pressure was outstanding in the shower as well. We loved the coffee and creamer choices in the room as well. You can tell that the owners love this property and maintain it wonderfully. The roof looked new as did the paint. Overall an excellent choice if you are coming through the area. The prices were reasonable for what we received. They even let us check out an hour late.

People walking through the campsite at all hours of the night thinking it wasn't a site as it isn't clearly visible that it is. So if you don't want that don't get one directly next to the restrooms, but if you are a people person and enjoy talking that would be a great spot if you're disabled. This year for July 4th we found a better site a bit farther away because of my dog. There are lots of trees and great water access for fishing and swimming. A very family friendly place! On the day after July 4th, the local fire department goes through the campground and hands out stuff for the children. It was fun watching before we had to leave . This was a great place to camp to get away from the noise of fireworks too. I definitely will be camping here in the future! Cons: no showers and bring a roll of toilet paper with you in case there isn't any in the restroom in the middle of the night

However this trip we were on night 21 with no hookups and the forecast was to be over 100 degrees..... last minute we decided we needed a little A/C! We had no reservations on a Sunday in July and lucked out and a pretty decent spot was available, B35, with views of the river. *** I think B33, might be the best spot in the park. For a crowded park, with close together sites, it was surprisingly quiet and we had a great night sleep.

They are also extreme fire hazards. One careless cigarette and the hillside is up in flames, just like what happened on the westbound side except that this hillside continues on up to the plateau and east and west along hwy 84.
