Dog Haus won't leave you in the dog house. Another Thursday and another day of killing time exploring nerd stores with Tim. This time we stopped by the Dog House for our afternoon feast based on Tim's suggestion. Previously a SmashBurger location, the layout is very much the same if you've been here before. I was expecting this place to be more of a restaurant but its more of a fast casual place. You order at the counter and they will bring it out to you. Tim and I needed a few minutes to look over the menu but once we placed our orders, it took maybe 10 minutes to get our food. I think the cashier was also the cook. Since Tim ordered first, I saw his burger come out (something garlic-y) and saw they used hawaiian rolls for buns. I was super hoping mine was on normal buns as the rolls were way too much bread for my liking... but alas... mine had the same 4 rolls for buns. No worries, The Hot Chick sandwich I ordered still looked pretty good and smelled tasty. Side note, the sandwiches don't come with a side so you have to pay extra for fries. There was a chunk of chicken hanging off the burger so I bit that first and instantly regretted skipping on a drink, thinking I could put down a burger and a fry before I could snag a tea or coffee while out and about. When they said it was a spicy chicken sandwich, they weren't kidding. After I let the burn subside, I got to the actual sandwich and I gotta say, it was pretty tasty. The sweet rolls helped mask the spicy side of the sandwich almost to the point of neutering the heat too much. As a spice head, this was a bit of a bummer for me. Tim devoured his garlic burger and cheesy tater tots like it was going out of style. They are his go-to and said it was just as good as every other time he's had it. There is a bar you can sit at if you want. But the casual nature of the place leads me to think that not a lot of people enjoy the adult beverage side of things. But again, maybe it being 3pm on a Thursday is different than what goes on at 6pm on the weekend. The rest of the interior was your standard fast casual restaurant in the 20th Century. There was a fun sign to take a photo with, which you can see above. My only real issue with this place aside is the price. For the fries and burger, it was about $16 or so after tax. It's not that the price was too high for the meal because you definitely get your money worth for the quality... I just wish there was a way to make it a combo so you aren't having to pay full price for each individual item. I would've gladly paid $15-17 for this meal as a combo. Individually, adding a drink would've easily pushed it to $20+ territory and that's just too much for a fast casual restaurant, in my opinion.

Cannot believe the negative reviews of this place, especially the middling two out of five on Yelp, this place rocked! Perhaps our timing, a casual relaxed Sunday lunch, is the way to do it here. We were greeted and welcomed into an open inviting atmosphere. The staff seemed a bit uncertain to make a peach smash so early in the day, but embraced When in The Fatherland mentality immediately glancing upon the draft chalkboard. And what a win it was, smooth bourbon kissing peaches and ripe for the sipping. Us three guys and toddler quickly went fully amazed at the first surprise, chicken tenders. Probably the best I have ever had! Perfectly cooked and juicy, the word succulent came up, possibly by me, and was agreed by the table to be the definitive description. Who knew the Germans where the one's two best in America at its own bird love affair? Two garage beers showed up, very easy to drink well balanced bitter and light notes. My friend's holy aioli Burger showed up, a double Smash Patty between Hawaiian rolls. Looking as right and wrong as Hawaiian pizza, it made us jealous. I wished for the other plates even as my kielbasa appeared lettuce wrapped, gluten seems to dislike me, but only for appearances did I eye other plates. I had added more toppings which the screen station made easy. So neat to have extra items for free, I always recommend restaurants aware of prices and valuing customer's happy to throw on more like pickled jalapenos and mushrooms without cost. That boos combination on my fancy hotdog was the bee's knees. Only the toddler's slider and half a big smash burger ended up in take home box. We were still talking about this beer garden hot spot later that night, will be back!

I've been here A LOT of times in the last 2 1/2 years. My first couple of experiences were great. The foods a little overpriced but I truly don't mind paying for quality food and the servers were friendly and very attentive. Recently though, my experiences have just not been good. Once I went in and a foreign female bartender was so sarcastic and rude we had to call the manager while we were still dining because she rather chat with the kitchen crew then check on the only 2 people that were in the restaurant. Twice I've gone in and dealt with a snappy tone and attitude from a male bartender which was very off putting. He basically ignored us and walked off when we were saying something about it but I just figured it was late and busy so whatever I'll go at a different time or just order to go. And I was a waitress and worked in the service industry for a good while so I'm not even being harsh bc I get it but like he clearly just didn't care. Today I ordered door dash I spent $30 for them to not make my food correctly. And it was fairly simple. The order clearly said chipotle honey flavored beyond tenders I asked for '1 extra sauce please and thank you' and then they just sent me plain. No sauce whatsoever which was like ok are y'all tryna be funny bc I asked for an extra.... Idk I was so pissed when I opened the bag, just disappointing. They also did not look as pictured at all, instead of the thick tenders they looked like long flat chx nuggets which I'm pretty sure thats exactly what they sent me. If they ran out or they didn't have something I would think they would at least contact me. If that's not the case then they were just literally being careless because it's really not that hard. A shame because this place used to be a go to for me but now it's always something wrong. They have good cookies though

We walked in, never being here before. Made our selections at the counter. Drinks are small yes but you can refill tea and soda so it's fine. They had an extensive liquor lineup. Didn't try those. My husband loved the Hangover burger. I had the Bad Mutha Clucker. I read reviews before we were served; our food was hot. Fries maybe not as much but the sandwiches were. Waited 15-20 mins for food. Overall I thought it was a good experience.

I was a little nervous hoping my 17yo picky non celiac son would find something he would like in a gf restaurant. I worried for nothing! He and I ordered the smash burgers and they were exceptional. He didn't even mind the "special sauce" which is amazing because the only thing he usually puts on a burger is salt. The warm chips were great as well. The wife got a "p-dizzle" flat bread. It was SO good. I almost forgot that we ordered cheese bites for an appetizer. They were served with a pineapple medley and a hummus dip. Holy cow were they fantastic! Their menu is quite large and we can't wait to go back. I was also impressed with the prices. Gf food is quite expensive and this place does a nice job offering delicious gf food at a very reasonable price! The service was a tad slow but I think they were short handed so that's totally understandable. All of the staff were extremely nice. And finally, the ambiance. The restaurant is bright and open and well decorated. The seats are very comfortable. Overall very pleased with everything. Just kicking myself for waiting so long to try The Queen of Squash out!

They did great with my son's dairy intolerance - they left some meatballs off his meat pizza and left a note on the box explaining they are made with cheese. I appreciate it as I would not have thought of that, and I liked they had vegan cheese as an option for his pizza. The second time we tried the west coast flatbread but he said it tasted weird. I thought it was fine- maybe just not kid approved . My fault for trying to get some veggies into him. I found their soup very tasty and had a watermelon mint salad with a bowl of soup the second time, and a turkey burger the first time. The turkey burger was fine but a little dry and bland. Husband had a squash bowl the first time which was great, we mixed the chickpea salad side into it. It was a good combo def recommend it. He tried the pulled pork sandwich on the second go and felt it was fine but bland. I think maybe it seems like everything else on the menu is a good pick except for the sandwiches. I had a moon time tea the first time. It came with no lid they didnt have any but was very very good tea so I ordered it again the second time. They forgot it in the second order and he had to go back for it. They rushed making it i think, it was not very strong, so I was a little bummed. I did call and ask them where they got the tea from and they told me it was from a local coffee place, so I am going to try to go buy a bag of tea to take home. I appreciate them pointing me to their source.

Review Visit: July 24th, 2016…read more Beer, arcade games and friends. My kind of place. Growing up, I got involved in playing video games thanks to my father and friends. Everything from Atari to Sega Genesis to Super Nintendo to Gameboy; everything in-between and everything after. Once I was legally allowed to enjoy adult beverages, I grew to enjoy beer a few years later. Shortly after, 8 Bit opened up. Having a lifelong love for video games and a recently acquired taste for beer, I gathered a few of my nerdy friends up and headed that way. 8 Bit is a pretty unique place. It's a bar that is also an arcade. It looks like a normal business situated at the end of a building but inside is a different story. Upon walking, you get the feeling you are in a house. You have some stairs that lead up to... somewhere. Off to the right of the entrance is the smallish bar. Between the bar tables and the machines, it can get pretty packed with just a handful of people. As you deviate from the bar, you'll find yourself in a hallway that has one machine at the end on the left, that is tucked under the stairs. Next to that is a room that full of 6-8 games (it could vary, I am not sure). Going back in to the hallway, you'll find the next room down on the left. That room is L-shaped and has maybe 12 games in it. At the end of the hallway, are the bathrooms. All the games are free to play as long as you are ordering drinks and spending money. Instead of loading your pockets full of quarters, you just have to load your belly up with beer. A fair trade off in my opinion. The beercade has a nice beergarden to enjoy. On my first visit here, my friends and I ordered a few drinks and headed outside to play some Pokemon Go. After polishing off my beer, I noticed there was a window in which you could order beer from the bar through. That is exactly what I did. I ordered another beer through the window. I thought that was pretty cool. While we were there playing Pokemon Go, another group of people came in and was playing Pokemon Go. We noticed they were playing as we kept battling for the Gym that was located nearby. At one point, that group sent someone out to spy on us as we battled for the gym. After noticing the other group was taking this too serious, we decided to close the app, head inside and play the arcade games. The selection of arcade games is about your standard fare. There are your usual games but they also had a few games I've never seen before. We played games for a bit longer before heading out. Now, this wasn't my only time I have come here. Ever since this visit, I have been back a few times with various other friends. Each visit has been unique. The first time I went, they offered food. The subsequent visits had no food options due to law changes. The last time I went was in late 2019 and they had this sweet system set up at the bar. It was operated with some aftermarket SNES controller and had almost every retro game available. My friend Nate and I spent more time browsing the catalog than gaming. It was such a sweet system and I wish I had it at home. 8 Bit has expanded to a second location in Bloomington, IL. I have yet to check it out but it is on my short list of places to visit. I feel like it's my duty as a gamer to check out not just the 2nd location but all beercades across the world. If you have the chance to check one out, you don't even need to be a gamer to enjoy these kinds of places.
