This is an extraordinary facility with a fabulous staff who provide their patients with full attention and complete care, always with joy, energy, patience, and great compassion. I chose this facility because of its strong reviews, passing up at least 20 others that were closer to home--and I'm so glad I did. I would've driven to the ends of the earth to get the best care for my grandfather, and that's exactly what we received DSC. It was such a relief to trust them with his health, especially after a horrific experience at another facility (which I'll describe shortly as a contrast to highlight how exceptional DSC is). My grandfather was here for short-term rehab to regain his ability to walk. This is a smaller, more intimate facility where the nurses, staff, and physical therapists have the time to provide constant care and monitoring--which is the most crucial factor in a nursing home. I cannot stress enough how rare this level of attention is, especially in chain-owned facilities. Whenever I requested something for my grandfather (such as a diaper change), the staff responded promptly. Whenever I had questions, the nurses were patient, thorough, and quick to provide clear explanations. Beyond that, it was clear that the staff was proactive in their care. I visited at different times of the day and consistently found them cleaning, feeding, medicating, or checking on my grandfather without being asked. The facility itself is also exceptionally clean. The maintenance crew was always present, regularly mopping, cleaning, and removing waste multiple times a day. The social services department was incredibly helpful, meticulously guiding us through the process of his continued care and rehabilitation after his return home. They were also easily accessible whenever I needed assistance. I spent between four to eight hours at the facility every single day my grandfather was there, so I can personally attest to the staff's dedication--not just to my grandfather, but to all the patients on the floor. I noticed how engaged and active many of the patients were. Whenever medically cleared, they were encouraged to move around and spend time outside their rooms. The nurses ensured my grandfather sat in a chair for his meals rather than remaining in bed all day, which is a critical part of physical rehabilitation. This was a stark contrast to his previous facility, where patients were neglected, left in bed all day unless they required procedural care. The physical therapy team at DSC was top-notch--patient, consistent, and accommodating. They even assisted my grandfather in walking to the restroom and helped clean him when necessary. All of these qualities are crucial in a care facility--and, unfortunately, far from guaranteed elsewhere. Before coming here, we had a nightmarish experience at another facility--Complete Care at Prospect Heights in Hackensack, NJ. My grandfather was severely neglected there, developing a urinary tract infection and a painful diaper rash that landed him back in the hospital. The staff was overworked and unable to attend to him in a timely manner. If he needed a diaper change, I had to remind the nurses multiple times, often waiting 60-90 minutes before anyone helped. And that was with me physically present and insisting--so I can't imagine the neglect when no one was watching. The nurses at Complete Care rarely answered questions, often making empty promises to follow up and then never returning. If my grandfather wasn't in a physical therapy session, he was left alone in bed all day because the staff was stretched too thin to provide anything beyond the bare minimum. The facility smelled strongly of urine, was outdated, unsanitary, and completely dysfunctional. I know some people might have concerns about going to Paterson. While the city itself has areas that need improvement, this facility is located in a quiet cul-de-sac by a high school, next to a modern apartment complex, and across from a church. The area is clean, suburban, and safe, with two parking lots. At no point did I feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or concerned. I share all of this to emphasize what truly matters when choosing a care facility: consistent, compassionate, and attentive care. That is what makes all the difference, and that is exactly what the staff at Doctors Subacute Care provides. Doctors Subacute Care's slogan is "Your Bridge Back Home." They lived up to their word. My mom is currently there and this has to be one of the worst places I have ever seen for rehabilitation! Where do I start? The facility itself is falling apart. There are hardly any garbage bins and peope have to share them between the bathrooms and the rooms. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and the cheapest quality you can get. If it snows, you are on your own out there walking on the ice! The staff hates their job and they don't know what they are doing. Don't get me wrong some of them are nice and actually care but most of them don't. Be prepared to take food to your loved one 3 times a day because the food they serve I would not even give to my dog. They have no water for drinking so you have to bring in your own water bottles. The ice machine is disgusting. Therapy is kind of ok but they don't really push people to get better quickly, it will take forever to gain your strength back at that pace. Their so called services, like hair and nails is non-existent. Take it from me, don't even think about sending someone here. I regret it so much. We are lucky to have chosen Doctor's Subacute Care. I was most impressed by the care that my grandmother received while she was a patient here. She was largely handicapped by progressive strokes and required much patience to get her through the day. The staff made extraordinary efforts to ensure her needs were met. First, I consider myself very lucky to have been under the care of you and your people during those times. Their friendliness, patience and professionalism from beginning to completion was very impressive and most welcome. The results have been excellent. Second, I was able for many hours during those weeks to observe your staff caring for many other patients with varying types of difficulties and saw those men and women receive the same high levels of personal dedication and unending patience no matter what the problem was. As a former Mayor and Councilman in Paterson, it was especially satisfying and reassuring to me to see such wonderful work being done by wonderful people right here within the borders of our troubled city of Paterson. A counselor, at the hospital where I had double by pass open heart surgery, suggested that I go to a rehab and my family picked Doctors Subacute Care Rehab Center from a list that the counselor provided. When I got there, they did not give me my blood pressure medication in the proper dosage or at the correct time so when it was time for therapy, they wouldn't allow me to do it because my blood pressure was too high or too low. They ordered me to stay in a wheelchair and for over two weeks, I was not allowed to walk, not even with a walker even though I was perfectly capable of walking and my heart surgeon wanted me to stay active. I wasted over two weeks there doing absolutely nothing but sitting and occasionally doing leg exercises. Staying there in such an inactive mode was making me deteriorate physically, and mentally. At some point, they said that they were going to extend my stay and I "may" be going home in another week or two. That pissed me off, and I said that I was tired of doing nothing there and wanted to leave that day. They said that I couldn't leave unless my doctor released me and he was on vacation. I called my brother and explained the situation and he made a few phone calls and made things happen. He got my doctor to release me. My brother and I both got kind of loud with the administrators of Doctors Subacute Care after it became obvious that they were more interested in making money than in my well being. And that was proven after the fact. After my release was approved, I heard someone say, "Now we won't get paid for today". I also heard them call my family stupid because my brother insisted that I be released that day. This may very well be a good place. I can only rate it from my experiences there. I have other health issues and they seemed incapable of giving me rehab and monitoring my other health issues at the same time. I was given little or no heart therapy rehabilitation while there, I was not given my medications properly, I was confined to a wheelchair even on my last day there, and the special diet that I needed because of other illnesses was ignored and they kept on giving me foods that I could not - or should not - eat. The day after my release, I was walking up and down the isles of the supermarket, walking up and down the street of my neighborhood saying hi to my neighbors, and getting back to leading a normal life. They threatened me by saying that it would be dangerous if I left early, but over a month has passed since I left and I am still here, fine, healthy and walking vigorously. I visited my doctor and he said that I am doing extremely well. My time at Doctor's Subacute was a waste of two weeks for me. read more

do not send your loved ones here unless, you want them to sit in there own feces all day and night long..my grandmother was placed here. you would think when they rang the button they would come but instead she has to use the bathroom on herself. the nurse was extremely rude and took her time to take her to get cleaned and to put on her gloves and to do anything that a normal human being would have the urgency to help the person but not here !!!!!!. then she leaves the room dirty with feces on the floor, because that wasn't her job to clean...just don't send them here if you are human with a decent heart !! read more

My dad was there for just under 2 weeks. He had 2 strokes and was not doing very well. He was at a acute facility that recommended us to bring him to a sub acute. When doing our tour we were promised a lot. The facility was always understaffed , short of aids or nurses. My dad could barely swallow to the point he wasn't allowed to drink water. They had him on special liquids. Going there one day for lunch and my dad had chicken and string beans! If you can't have water how do you expect him to eat that. We had to tell the dietician to give him purée only. I didn't know we were dietician. The meals were brought into the rooms and put on the table wich was 3 feet away from him. By the way his entire left side was paralyzed from the stroke. He was never given his special water when they were suppose to. The cleaning lady May God bless her fed my father the day before he passed away there. Unfortunately we have nothing really good to say about the facility. They say they are there for stroke victims and I think not! I put a call into the owner and told him the same! I really hope for the health of the other patients he puts in a lil more time seeing what's going on. Possibly spend a little more on payroll so there is enough staff. The only good thing was the facility was always clean. All of the awards he brags about are from years ago! As far as a 5 star, they must get there act together during the inspection! So I would really think before I would put my love one there. As a business owner myself it hurts to write this! I really hope they can get there act together.
