The owner, Marjorie, was very friendly and accommodating us during our late check-in but that's where it ended. There was no mention or followup concern about the picnic table and deck issues during our 1st morning at the cabin. Lastly, management needs to update their website: 1) There is no wraparound deck or charcoal grill on location at Camp Melissa and 2) Camp fires were not permitted (we found out on arrival), management needs to alert potential guests of this rule and/or have a distinctive notice on the website.

As a side note, if you are looking for a place to stay that's close to a lot of food options or shops. This is not it. Most places close early or are not open every day of the week. A bunch of the cabins have a kitchen in it, but not all. This did not bother us! We found local small places to eat within 10 Minutes of Dartbrook.

The elements are easy enough to list: fabulous swimmable lake, fresh vegetables within walking distance, lots of hiking, farmer's market in town once a week, easy places to grill, many points of interest (a drive to an abandoned iron mine for the history minded, or visit the ladies that make goat cheese and pet a goat). And a sky filled with billions and billions of stars... but other places can make similar claims. This is not a normal "guest house" in the sense of a B&B where you gather each morning with others to eat breakfast. Instead, this is a single studio in the same building as the owner's house with its own entry. It very much feels like your own studio apartment in Burlington. The owners have an excellent design sense, probably because they're artists themselves. The studio is roomy with high ceilings and original artwork on the walls. There is a kitchen, a sitting area, a small eating table, and a very comfortable queen size bed with hardwood floors throughout. Besides some temporary construction going on next door, the studio was absolutely quiet as you are on the upper floor and insulated well from the owner's place. There's also parking. The studio is a bit off the beaten path of downtown Burlington, but is an easy drive or long walk in, and overlooks the Winooski River. Much closer are the University of Vermont and a secondary urban area north of downtown that has its own shops and restaurants. A couple things to be mindful of when you book that weren't necessarily apparent to us: simple breakfast food is provided in the studio (granola, milk, cider, fruit, coffee, etc.) but is not served as a formal sitting each day in a separate dining room somewhere. Your room is also not cleaned each day as in a traditional B&B or hotel. Fortunately the space is so large and with plenty of eating options within a short distance, these were non-issues. We liked Burlington so much I'm sure we'll return within the year and will definitely stay at Dubuque Lane again.

Also, if you want to explore the inn's 200 acres of forest, fields and meadows you'll easily have your fill of nature without having to drive to a trailhead. I loved my morning walks through seemingly endless fields of wildflowers and then visiting the pond. Also, the farm fresh breakfast is incredible with Meghan & Tyler being the best hosts of any B&B I've been to in recent years.

The rooms are gorgeous, clean, and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful with surrounding mountain vistas and stream. It's conveniently located with just a quick drive to Lake Placid, Keene Valley, and the Cascade xc ski park. Our hosts made us feel so welcome. There's a mini guest kitchen we used to store some of our snacks we brought and many nooks and places to enjoy meals if you don't feel like eating out. We loved our time there and can't wait to continue to visit.
