There are lots of options for food- they have a concession stand there with hot dogs, snacks, candy and popcorn and such. There is also a food truck you can order from. We got food from both and were pleasantly surprised at the fair prices, portions and taste. My husband also went to the bar/speakeasy and said it was a really cool spot with lots of beverage options. We brought blankets and pillows for the kids in the back of the truck and then some chairs for us. We had plenty of space and it was a perfect night. Went for the first time for their murder and mystery event at their speakeasy. The speakeasy is very cool. The hidden entrance and decor is awesome. The people who took our tickets were both really friendly. The African American bartender was really friendly too but the blonde just seemed like she didn't want be there. Either that or she just doesn't smile in life. We had a really good time playing the murder and mystery game even though there were some hiccups, they had to keep taking small breaks throughout the game to fix things. It was their first one though so I get that they are working out the kinks. I definitely want to come back once they have done the game a few times and really have it nailed down. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I think we were legit ripped off by the bartender. My husband had one old fashioned for $15 and 3 canned beers for $3 each. I had one dirty martini, one Moscow mule and 3 glasses of Pinot noir and our bill , which wasn't presented itemized , came back as $150 which was $170 with tip. The math just doesn't make sense. Plus , the pours were really meh. Especially the wine she barely poured me a full glass. They really need to improve the pours if they are somehow charging $20 a pop for each drink, either that or the bartender really did rip us off. This review is for Mama Merlot's. This is a hidden, underground 1920's speakeasy on the same grounds as Doc's Drive-in theater. It truly was more of a 3.5 star experience but I have future hopes for it. Parking was plentiful. The front door attendant was very friendly. He shares a little story about the place while escorting you down to the club. Ambiance was nice and the decor nicely represented the 1920's theme. The wine list could be much better but I assume they do more craft cocktails. The bar food "Bites" menu is nothing special. In fact, we were going to order something but everything we saw others getting around did not look too good, especially for the prices. They actually did have one good bottle of wine on the menu that we were excited to see but unfortunately, it was spoiled. It was rank and this is a bottle that we're very familiar with. It was even brown when we poured it. The blonde bartender was so apathetic in all interactions we saw (including us) that we didn't even bother to ask them to make it right. No refund ($125 bottle), no exchange. It is not a big place. The seating is comfortable. You order drinks and food at the bar. We were there for a comedy show and it was decent. Show time was advertised as 6pm-9pm but the show didn't start until 7:10 and was over in about an hour. If you are a member, I believe it's free, but if not, $10 per person. We were told there was a 2 item minimum but I did not see anyone keeping up with this. So while the place was not perfect, Buda needs this place to up its game (one bartender in particular) and work. I'm sure they are trying. They have what looks like some fun nights planned ahead. We will definitely give this place another try but will not order a bottle of wine! read more

This is a little far out of the way, and my first experience here wasn't the best, but it was still a good time and I'd return if I found the time or an event I wanted to attend. I came here as part of a screening being put on by a local group. They were doing a showing of the 2009 movie Jennifer's Body. Doc's is out in a big dirt field with a small building that houses a little speakeasy bar and an even smaller building for the Drive-In's concession stand. We paid a visit to both. The speakeasy was nice and service was friendly, but it was getting crowded, so we took our drinks outside and I didn't get a good feel for the place. The concessions was SWAMPED, but they were churning orders out at a pretty steady pace. There was a moment where the people there had to leave to set up the screens, but as soon as they returned they jumped into getting more orders out. Shout out to the couple of people working that day. If you go, get the loaded fries, they're so delicious. I'll definitely order them again. During the film it stopped and there was a connectivity issue displayed on the screen. That's the only reason I took a star off. It was overall nice and there were no audio issues or overlap in sound from the other screen. Check this place out if you get a chance. read more

Loved going to the drive ins growing up, and I feel like they have some great ideas here just poor execution. Food from the concessions was pricey and not that great. They have a bar "speakeasy" in the back so throughout the whole movie there was cars with their lights on driving back and forth to the bar. This is such a gem!! The staff was super friendly and gave us the low-down when we pulled up. You park in a gravel lot and watch the show. It's a cute experience and they have classic commercials playing. The concessions stand has movie theater food including burgers/pizza etc. The food was pretty good. We had 3 separate orders for cars and friends coming to this drive in. (I myself drove kids 2.5 hours round trip) The theater had random cars just sitting at the entrance confused and everything was shut down. I called the number on the website and a man came down to say to us "well we sent out emails to everyone. The screens are all down right now." Considering none of the 3 of us got emails and it was 3 separate orders and the other customers showing up saying they didn't receive anything either. Kind of a huge red flag to me. I guess make sure you call prior to making the drive because you won't know if they are open or not. read more

This is a review for Mama Merlot's, the private club at the Drive in. When we were looking for places to go when visiting Austin, we saw that one of the local burlesque troupes - the Jigglewatts - were performing while we would be there. The place in Buda, Mama Merlot's, was a hoot. It's an underground speakeasy (actually underground!) under a purple shipping container at the back of a drive-in movie theater. The room was small but pretty lavishly decorated, and the craft cocktails were surprisingly excellently crafted. There were 3 dancers and who did 2 numbers each, and an MC who sang. I was lied to by the people at Doc's Drive In. They stated on Facebook that they were having a helicopter egg drop with 5,000 eggs. Then when we went there was no helicopter. There was a small pampers box of eggs with only starburst pieces in the eggs. Each kid (there were less than 50 kids) got less than 10 eggs. This event costed $10 per child and wasn't worth it. There were definitely not 5,000 eggs. There were less than 500. They also lied on my Google review saying I was name calling and yelling at their employees. I never did once and am only pointing out their lies. That is defaming me as a person when I only speak truth. My children left the event crying and the Easter event they were excited about ended up ruining their day. read more

Great menu items - we enjoyed the nachos, popcorn and couple cans of Shiner Bock. The bathroom was nicely designed. There are a few outdoor games - corn hole, a large connect 4 and jenga blocks. There are also a few tiny movie themed homes on site for weekend getaways. The staff is all very friendly. Definitely has a family friendly outdoor ice house kind of feel. The tickets are so very reasonably priced. When you get there the employees are the friendliest! You can order food online, but they also give you a menu and you can walk up and order. The food is very good and the variety has something for everyone. There is no 'bad spot' we've been here a few times and we can always see the movie perfectly! Can't believe it took me this long to discover this place. We went for the first time last night on Valentine's Day for a double feature - The Princess Bride and The Goonies. You can't beat those titles! From the detailed website to the email they sent day-of filled with information, the experience was seamless. This place is like a legit old-school Drive-in, it's just missing the speakers. The screens are large with a decent quality picture, and the sound is almmmooossssttt loud enough if you don't use your car radio. We were in the back of our truck bed, so we didn't use our car and unfortunately did not bring our own radio. One of the owners was so nice; he gave us the option to move to a different spot closer to the screen and also said he would turn up the volume. The customer service was spot-on. You could really tell this is a family owned place. So my only complaint would be the sound, and the fact that we could hear the sound from the other movie that was playing on the second screen. Honestly, we should have brought a radio, so I can't really fault them for that. The owner even checked in with me during the intermission to see if the sound was loud enough. We had a little chat, and he told me that he and his brother have exciting plans in the future to open and underground speakeasy! Say what?! Now onto the food.... we were given fair warning that the food might take a while since it was a busy night for them, so we arrived early and ordered as soon as we got there. It still was a wait, but oh so worth it! They smoke their brisket in house, and make a lot of their own sauces too. The pulled pork sandwich was so good, possibly one of the best I have had!!! The pork was tender and chewy inside, and crispy on the outside. Wow. The mini corn dogs, the pretzel and beer cheese (so good!!), were all winners. You wait in line to order outside and receive a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready. There is a narrow bar upstairs, with tables to watch the sunset and screens. This spot is the best! I have really enjoyed it throughout the Covid pandemic because it is really easy to socially distance here. The movies are crystal clear, sound is great, and I love the bathrooms! Another super bonus about this theater, is they serve gluten/corn free food!! Doc's is SO worth the drive from North Austin! The screen is really large compared to other drive in theaters in Austin and the whole experience is totally streamlined. I bought tickets online they went straight to my email zero printing required. Our showing was at 9:20 and due to a little traffic we got there at 9:20 on the dot. The parking attendee showed us to our reserved spot and we tuned our radio to get the sound - easy breezy. You can order food, drinks, and alcohol online beforehand but we waited and ordered when we parked and it said our food would be ready in 45 minutes. The food is made fresh to order but it's worth the wait I think. I had a hot pretzel with mustard and a Hershey bar, my husband ordered popcorn and a beer; the total came in around $25 which felt fair. The popcorn was WAY salty and we didn't enjoy it but I would imagine that varies? We'll give it one more go to see. With Alamo closed due to Covid we are so happy to have discovered Doc's! It is such a great way to break up the routine of shelter in place while sti staying safe. We will be back many, many more times I'm sure. read more

I've never written a review for anything in my life, but YOU GUYS. This place is amazing. I took my girlfriend here last night and we had such a great time. If you're thinking about buying tickets, DO IT. If you're still unsure, read on for my evaluations of the theatre, location, people, and food. The Theatre - Moderately small, only two screens. There weren't that many people there, so that was nice. My only critique of the movie was that the sound quality we were getting from the radio station that we had to turn into to hear the movie (screen one was 87.9 or 89.7, don't quote me) was pretty rough at times. I'm not sure if that's something that they can control though. Before you come, it might be a good idea to download apps for the radio station you'll need to tune into so that you have that as back up in case the sound quality gets bad. The Location: Pretty out in the middle of nowhere = no light pollution! The People: The staff were super friendly. The guy who checked our tickets was super nice and so were the people working the concession stand. The Food: My GF got the Millie dog and I got the pulled pork sandwich. Mille dog was fine (she didn't say otherwise lmao) but the pulled pork sandwich....y'all. It was only $9 and it was HUGE. And the pork was soooo good. If you don't come and see a movie, at least stop by and get a pulled pork sandwich to go...you won't regret it. All in all, amazing place.
