Our server, Carly, told us they only have one glass so we took that literally and assumed the rest of the small glasses were dirty. The second customer asked to have the .3L pour served in a regular glass. She said that was doable. When we got the check, we were each charged $8.00. We questioned Carly and she again said they only had one glass. Apparently she meant only one size pour but that's not what she said or what is on the menu. I realize it was only $4.00 more than we were expecting but that's not my point. Proper communication is a wonderful thing.

The only downside of being upstairs is you're a little out of the way so not always serviced as quickly as you would be if downstairs.

Magnus has clearly earned its place on our list of restaurants worth returning to, and we're already looking forward to our next visit. A couple of practical tips: reservations are a must, and finding on-street parking can be challenging. Both are well worth navigating for a meal like this!

Sometimes, particularly in the dead of winter when all the tourists have gone from Maine, we go in just cuz. First of all, the menu and the cocktails. Just. F'ing. YUM. I'm a huge fan of the yuca fries which are crispy on the outside, perfectly soft inside, just the right amount of salt. The "Fall Green Salad" on the menu currently is just... It's a death wish meal. Like, if I'm ever on death row, and they're like "OK, buddy, what's the last meal you want?" It's going to be that salad. Well, maybe that and some lobster. ANYway the menu is generally small, which some people seem to take issue with, but changes regularly with seasonal foods, and all but the most picky of "Applebee's" fans will find something to enjoy. In other words, if you're expecting an eight page menu with low quality, bland food, this may not be the place for you. The presentation is always spot on, but the flavors? My god, I am just gushed over a salad? Yes. Yes I did. The sweetness with a nice bit of tart from the grapefruit, the slight bitterness of the radicchio, and then the curried pecans. This fantastic little crunch with the curry flavor and heat? Seriously. So freakin' good. The bartenders are wonderful and really know their stuff. Last night I saw a bottle I didn't recognize, which turned out to be creme de cocao. I've had DeKuyper and others, but this was so much better. I asked the bartender for a cocktail made from it and what she made.... *chef's kiss*. A tiny bit of coffee, some flavor from akvavit, some whiskey. It was so subtle, so delicious, and exactly my flavor pallet (I tend to be somewhat alcohol forward in my drink preferences). Whenever I'm in, I also order a "Last Word" since they always, always make them perfectly and it's difficult these days to find green chartreuse. The bartender very kindly explained to me what why his were generally better than what I made at home. And of course, the staff in general. We LOVE THEM. ALL of them. Magnus has a vibe, if you're a local in particular, similar to a neighborhood pub. The people get to know your face, they greet you warmly, they chat not just with you but with one another. It's clear, abundantly clear, that they like where they are. Parking is where you can find it on street in the area. We've never had any issues finding something within easy walking distance. The price, well lets face it, even going to eat at a local Irish bar these days is going to set you back, but for the current market I'd say it's average. We had three cocktails each, three appetizers, and one main dish for about $150, AND we had leftovers. BTW, refried yuca fries with over easy eggs? Perfect hangover food.

I do wish they did a rotating seasonal special drink menu, as places usually have one or more great sounding drinks on those. Both my wife and I settled on an iced blueberry latte. Overall it had hints of blueberry and tasted more like milk than anything. Would not be rushing back for it specifically that's for sure. Food wise they have some in-house baked goods as well as bagels from Rose Foods and corssiants from Little Spruce Baking. My wife got a plain bagel with cream cheese while I grabbed a chocolate croissant. I did mess up by not requesting it be warmed up but it was still delicious! Will be finding more spots that have goodies from Little Spruce. The bagel was also tasty. Book wise my wife enjoyed browsing but did not find any books she needed to grab. She did enjoy reading a couple chapters of her current book while we sat by the large windows (good spot for world watching outside). We enjoyed our visit but have other spots we would be happier to visit again.

Today I waited in line with my Banded Horn labeled growler. I was told the brewery no longer fills growlers. While thinking this was invredulous and dissapointed, I went to retrieve a four pack of the brew I wished to fill. The cashier I originally ordered from did not think it was fair to those who were waiting behind me to let me purchase the four pack ahead of them. She then let me know what a "pleasant person" I was. Well she is terrific budiness person who ensured that Banded will no longer receive another dollar from me. *i was forced to add a star to post this. It does not deserve any stars.

The flavors are lovely and not overwhelming. Almost everything we tried was flavor forward with a mild finish. The staff at the bar, were super nice and welcoming. Very patient as customers waffled while deciding on a beer. They also can make suggestions if you aren't sure. We loved Flocktoberfest and were glad to be able to snag a case before they sold out. They have a few dedicated parking spots - which we lucked out in getting one. We will definitely be back.
