I've had both, depends on my mood. They also have some German food, which is rare to find up in this area, as well as lebkuchen cookies around the Christmas holidays. I am not a big fan of ham, but they have a pineapple and ham sandwich, grilled, that is to die for. The dessert case has homemade lemon bars, cream puffs, rice pudding and other homemade yummies. The decor is unique, with small gifts, cards and European treats for sale as well. My husband had them cater my 40th birthday party a few years ago and the food was excellent then as well.

They have the best reuben in town (also the messiest). A great vegetarian menu and also a daily special of more homemade-type meals like meatloaf or stroganoff. The tomato bisque soup is really good as well. Everything is made from scratch. Oh, and usually I'm too full, but the desserts are rockin- like a giant cream puff the size of a softball. I used to come here all the time for work and I loved it. It's not set in the best location and I think it shares its parking lot with a carpet store or something. But the food is worth it and its cute inside, with some really cool artwork (weird joker clowns). I always forget about this place in town since it doesn't feel like a destination, but when you think about going to Scott's for the view, you should think twice and head to the Silver Swan for the food.

If you're in Traverse City, do yourself a favor and make a stop at West End Tavern…read more I stopped in for dinner by myself, and from the moment I walked in, I felt welcome. The atmosphere is warm, comfortable, and relaxed, making it the perfect place to slow down and enjoy a great meal. The service was outstanding from start to finish--attentive, friendly, and the kind of service that makes you feel like a valued guest without ever being overbearing. I ordered the Bone-In Tomahawk Pork Chop, served with balsamic-glazed Brussels sprouts with bacon and mashed potatoes, and it was one of the best meals I've had in Traverse City. The pork chop was absolutely massive. I ordered it medium, and it came out perfectly cooked--juicy, incredibly tender, and with very little fat. It was so tender I could almost cut it with my fork. Every bite was packed with flavor, and it was easily the star of the meal. The Brussels sprouts were exceptional. They had the perfect balance of sweetness with just a hint of bitterness, and once you mixed in the bacon... wow. They were phenomenal. I honestly wish I had taken a picture because the entire plate was huge. The portion size was incredible, and I left completely full. The mashed potatoes were good--nothing extraordinary on their own--but paired with the pork chop they rounded out the meal perfectly. I also ordered a side of the risotto, which was rich, creamy, and served piping hot. It was a little cheesier than I typically prefer, but it paired beautifully with the pork chop. Before my entrée, I ordered the seafood chowder, and it completely blew me away. I'm usually not a fan of onion or celery in soups, but this was hands down the best seafood chowder I've ever had. It was peppery, rich, and packed with incredible flavor. Honestly, I could have ordered a large bowl and called it dinner. It was that good. I would come back to West End Tavern just for the chowder. West End Tavern absolutely delivered. Between the exceptional service, generous portions, perfectly prepared food, and welcoming atmosphere, this was an outstanding dining experience. The seafood chowder alone is worth the visit, but the Bone-In Tomahawk Pork Chop is the dish I'll be thinking about for a long time. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Traverse City.

Oryana Community Co-op is hands-down my favorite place to stop in Traverse City for a vegan meal,…read morewhether it's breakfast, lunch, or just a coffee. Oryana is truly a vegan haven. Not only do they have an amazing selection of grab-and-go items, but their made-to-order options are equally impressive. Their vegan dill wrap is one of my favorites and packed with flavor. I also love their prepared tofu slices, especially the curry and smoked varieties. Most recently, I tried the peanut tofu wrap and it was absolutely out of this world, incredibly flavorful, satisfying, and very filling. They also have fantastic options on the hot bar. One standout for me is the vegan breakfast burrito. It's only around $4, surprisingly filling, and loaded with flavor. A little messy to eat, but completely worth it! If you're vegan and visiting Traverse City, Oryana is an absolute must-visit.

This store is absolutely incredible. It's a medium-sized store but it has so much to offer and I enjoyed it it doesn't feel like on the side a big box grocery store. You can expect to find hard to find vegan items, a great selection of Health Products your bathroom or just everyday life. The cafe and the little dining room in the back is such a great touch to the store. The soup selection is awesome incredible awesome featuring some vegan items. Great selection of alcoholic beverages as well! I also visited it's sister store only a couple of miles away and it's just as good but I feel like this location has a slight Edge over it. Highly recommend checking out this store if you're in the area or are vacationing like myself.

The service was friendly, and the menu had lots of fresh and intriguing choices. For a starter, the tempura fried garlic scapes ($12) were ordered. They came with a maple and fermented Fresno chili hot sauce. The tempura batter was tasty. The scrapes were very long so a knife was definitely needed. The hot sauce was a nice addition, and I was hoping for more of it, or for it to be given on the side. Now that I think about it, I should have just asked for more, bad job. For the main dish, the grain bowl ($19) and chicken torta ($19) was split. The grain bowl had brown rice, spelt, millet, chickpeas, lemon-tahini dressing, pickled vegetables, carrot, kohlrabi, feta, and a pomegranate molasses. This was very light and extremely fresh. All of the flavors mixed well with one another. The torta had a chicken guisado, lime-cilantro slaw, pickled onion, and jalapeno on a telera roll with a side salad. The salad was basically just mixed greens, no issue there. Again, this appeared extremely light, especially the soft roll. The chicken was flavored well and tender while the pickled onion and jalapeno gave a little crisp. The jalapenos also provided a slight kick. Will I go back? No doubt.

We were at the kitchen counter and the head chef/owner talked to us a lot while he was at the pass finishing dishes. He was not overbearing, where it was annoying. He was very friendly. He asked a lot of questions and we returned the favor. He went around talking to other tables too. Besides him, the rest of the staff was very pleasant and accommodating, including the chefs doing the cooking! It was one of the best experiences I had in regard to the staff. I have included what I ate below. Everything was timed out well too. Our Bread ($8) - This was a cheddar bread with ranch butter. This was very good. It came out extremely warm. The ranch butter was light and paired perfectly with the soft inside and slight crisp on the outside of the bread. Cucumber ($16) - This came with salsa Macha, pickled jalapeno, and cilantro. This appeared extremely fresh. There was a slight kick from the jalapenos and/or salsa. It all went well together with one another. Ricotta Gnudi ($17) - This came with pea, basil, country ham, and Marcona almonds. The gnudi had an unreal texture. The almonds were a nice added touch for some crunch. I did not really think the ham was needed. Potato ($17) - This came in a brown-butter cheese sauce with shallots and pickled mushrooms. This was my favorite non dessert dish of the night. The cheese sauce was unreal with tons of flavors, while the pickled mushrooms combined with the crispy shallots made for a superb pairing. Fried Chicken ($16) - This came with two large chicken pieces with a white BBQ sauce. This was brined in Earl Grey tea. The skin was crispy as anything, and the chicken was cooked to perfection. It was moist with great color. The white BBQ sauce was one of the best sauces I had in a while. I do not have much experience with white BBQ sauces, but this was tremendous. The vinegar could really be tasted and paired well with the hot crispy skin of the chicken. Halibut ($47) - This came with white beans, chermoula, and black garlic. The halibut was cooked perfectly, and the chermoula was ideal with the slight crisp from the large beans. There was also a nice crunch from crispy brown rice it seemed like. Key Lime Pie ($16) - This was with a homemade graham crust, white chocolate, and a basil meringue. This was my favorite overall dish of the night. The crust was one of the best I ever had. It was so buttery and had a perfect thickness to the key lime filling. The little meringue pieces on top was an ideal topping. Will I go back? Obvious.
