We ordered a hamburger, chicken sliders, flank-steak cheesesteak, and shrimp sliders--and every single item was outstanding. We also had a side of the elbow macaroni salad, which was fantastic. To top it off, Jerry was kind enough to bring us a sample of his French toast: thick yet light bread coated in egg, cinnamon, and sugar. One bite was all it took for us to decide we'll definitely be back for breakfast! The service was top-notch from start to finish. Highly recommend!

Everyone's breakfast was delicious, featuring a veggie omelette, bagel with cream cheese, apple pancakes, regular pancakes, bacon, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. This is a seashore casual bar and restaurant specializing in fresh seafood. They're located on the…read moremainland side of Barnegat Bay, about 5 mins inland, and the menu is extensive. At lunch, my softshell crab sandwich was good. Kudos to them for having softshells during the very brief season. For the price, I wish there had been two crabs though. The one in my sandwich was very small and noticeably tough. Very tasty, though, on its toasted brioche bun. I removed one of the two fat tomato slices because i wanted to be able to taste the delicate crab, and ate the extra slice along with some of the excess lettuce as a salad. The side of cole slaw was delicious. My sister had the original crab cake sandwich which she loved, and my husband ordered a sautéed mahi sandwich with fries and a beer. He was very happy, and said that it was probably the best mahi he'd ever had. We arrived at about 2p.m. without a reservation to find the dining room packed, so we're happy to sit at a shared outdoor wooden picnic table next to the bar truck. It's that popular! Nothing fancy about this place except the prices and good quality seafood.

Yes the bar was very busy... however, we were overlooked repeatedly as Billy looked past us and served groups of young girls and guys who clearly arrived after us. In fact, they were actually standing well behind us and we were obviously there first and waiting patiently for some acknowledgment. It became so awkward that my wife asked me, "Did you make a face or do something for him to ignore us? It seems odd that all these people who came in after us are being served first while we just sit here." Maybe Billy didn't like that I raised my hand for attention in the chaos. Maybe he just didn't like the way I looked. But for whatever reason, Billy was clearly blowing us off time and time again. When Billy finally did serve us after 15 minutes, the drink he made for my wife was watered down and my draft beer was barely half full. What a downer. We finished our drinks, tipped Billy anyway, and left feeling embarrassed. As long-time residents of LBI who really wanted to enjoy our first visit to the new Salt Shack, we left perplexed by why we were ignored ... and disappointed that this experience not only ruined our time, but also ensured that we won't be going back again and cannot add The Salt Shack to our list of places we enjoy patronizing on LBI.

After looking over the menu I was expecting this to be an inside, sit down restaurant, but it's completely open air seating, you order at the counter, and then wait to be called...everything is made fresh. Just so you know the seating is limited, only ten tables, and most people seemed to get meals to go. We lucked out and a table opened up as we got there so we stayed. I ordered a cup of the New England Clam Chowder and the Broiled Viking Village Scallops (all the meals came with 1/2 a corn on the cob and smashed potatoes). Wifey ordered the Broiled Shrimp meal, daughter had the Grilled Shrimp meal, and my son and daughter's boyfriend both ordered the Grilled Atlantic Salmon meals. We all really liked our meals. My clam chowder was a little salty, but had lots of clam and was great. The corn and smashed potatoes were also very tasty. If you like garlic, order the scallops...they didn't scrimp. We all walked away very full, very happy, and very much willing to return.
