Fabulous experience this weekend with Ardis, Coleen and the team sharing their expertise and experience to match us up with Blu, who we are already totally in love with. Enjoyed learning the story of the shelter from Ardis a Dan was inspired by her vision and passion for the work they do. I would highly recommend taking a few moments to listen to the advice on offer at the shelter, these guys really know what they are doing - lot of fun to hang out with also read more

It is a beautiful facility! The founder, Ardis Is the Dog angel. We adopted our little dog, Scruffy at this fabulous rescue ranch. He was chipped, tagged, vaccinated and seen by a veterinarian. Over 100 dogs are loved and cared for at this non-profit rescue, giving them another chance to live and be loved. We are so grateful to have found our little guy there. We are in love and so is he. read more

Doberman Pinscher Rescue - Animal Shelters Near Me - Fillmore, California

We recently adopted a male Doberman from Dobies and Little Paws Rescue in Fillmore, CA and can't give enough praise for Ardis and Colleen and the rescue. We took our female Doberman Sydney with us when we went to the rescue and Ardis helped us find the right fit and temperament for our dog. We ended up adopting 2-3 old male that Ardis saved from the Lancaster shelter. Flynn has been with us almost three months and he is absolutely thriving. He won everyone's heart within 24 hours of arriving at his new home and ended fitting within a few days, it's like he has been here all of his life. Back to Dobies and Little Paws Rescue; we have never seen such an amazing operation. Ardis had over 150 Dobermans she saved and is looking to re-home but she needs help. We encourage anyone who's looking for a new companion to check out Dobies and Little Paws Rescue and if you have the resources please donate anything you can to help the rescue. Ardis has been a pioneer in the Doberman rescue community since 1987 and has rescued over 14,000 dogs. Please consider helping Ardis and Colleen and all of their Angels. Todd & Sandra read more

We had the most amazing experience here 14 years ago when we adopted out Italian Greyhound Chihuahua Mix. Every time I see a Dobie I tell them that Twiggy came from this incredible Dobie shelter. This shelter goes above and beyond and we have endless gratitude for them and their work and allowing us to be blessed with the our sweet girl who has opened our hearts more than we could have ever imagined. read more

Doberman Pinscher Rescue - Animal Shelters Near Me - Fillmore, California

I adopted my adorable Doberman Pinscher/ Shepherd Mix from this rescue. They are amazing, & really care about their dogs. They have so many beautiful dogs waiting for their forever homes. Each time a dog gets adopted, it enables them to save another Doberman's life. So many of these dogs come from overcrowded shelters, & are in grave danger of being euthanized. My dog was very fortunate to have been flown into Bakersfield from Modesto, along with another beautiful Doberman who was close to losing his life. They were understandably scared, & a little confused.., but they would at least be SAFE.. Ardis drove out there from Fillmore, & rescued both dogs who were red listed. Please check out their wonderful website, & fundraising events. They have a few other smaller breeds, but are mostly dedicated to finding wonderful homes for Doberman's. I love what this rescue does to promote this very noble, & lovable breed. read more

Such a misunderstood breed. Very open area and relaxed setting. The dogs are held in cages spread out on the huge property. Surrounding the rescue are what look like lemon tree farms. Just enough adoption requirements to ensure the dogs go to good homes, without being overly restrictive like many shelters are. They have close to 100 dogs here. You could honestly just show up on their open house Saturdays and leave with a new furry friend. The lady in charge is amazing and extremely knowledgable. She has every dog memorized. Tell her a name and she can give you its history by memory. Tell her what you are looking for and she knows the dog for you. read more

I adopted a 5 1/2 year-old, 110 pound, male Dobie that had been at the rescue for 18 months. There were approximately 80+ Dobies on site when I got him. He had a questionable past. It was clear he'd been in a lot of fights and it was thought that he'd been used as a bait dog. Having owned three male Dobies over a period of thirty years I felt more than qualified and prepared to give this boy his forever home. I worked on obedience with him and walked him minimally five miles daily. He was great - learning fast, didn't lunge after other dogs, joggers or cyclists. I was thrilled. It seemed like he and I were a great fit during the first two weeks I had him; however, instead of settling in and going with the flow of our household, he just didn't seem content on week three. He tried to get away with things as soon as we would step out of the room: getting up on the furniture, counter surfing and getting up on our dining room table. He was immediately corrected, as well as shown with firmness that he was not the boss. The more he was corrected, the unhappier he looked. On the day and evening of the 19th day, he was corrected twice by my husband and once by me. The next morning he looked very unhappy. He lunged at a dog, and then a runner. It was out of character. We planned to go to the store when we got home.. I asked my husband to crate him. The dog growled at my husband. My very alpha husband pointed to the dog and said, "what did you just say to me?" The dog growled at him again. I promptly called Ardis, who clearly loves these dogs, to tell her I needed to bring him back because I cannot have his change of attitude around my toddler grandsons. Ardis kept implying that my husband and I did not know how to handle an alpha dog. This is not the case at all. One does not last thirty years as a Dobie owner if they are a pushover. I feel this dog spent too much time alone and kenneled in a stressful environment to assimilate to living with a family. The facility in Fillmore is very crowded with kennels and barking dogs who are living on top of one another. I have know doubt that these dogs are fed, watered and given veterinary care as needed, but there are too many at this location and for the amount of volunteers they have. I think these dogs are under a lot of stress and are not as adoptable as they could be if they weren't in this crowded situation. read more

Very disappointing experience. We filled out an application and were contacted saying that we were a perfect match for the dog we were interested in. I was told that they do not hold dogs. My husband and I decided to go see the dog first thing the next day. The night before going I received an email from Artis stating that another couple was coming to see the same dog as us and the couple was told they would hold the dog for them from 11-12. Why was it ok to hold for them and not us? We arrive as soon as they opened and were pushed aside for this other couple to meet the dog. We were never given a chance to even see him. We then have another dog pushed at us that we didn't even know. This dog had stitches on it's head and neck, a clearly infected foot/toe and scrapes on it's leg. We were not going to adopt a dog that needed so much medical attention from the start. We drove an hour and 20 minutes for nothing. I do not like the deceit of how everything occurred. It seems as though the other couple was already promised the dog and we were lied to. I would not recommend this place at all. Do not waste a family's time who have their hearts set on a dog that you have already given away. Needless to say, we will find another dog rescue that is honest and has integrity. read more

Dobies and Little Paws Rescue is AMAZING! Ardis who runs this large Dobie rescue with her staff care and work tirelessly for these dogs! I just adopted my second Dobie super star rescue here and I'm in love already. Ardis helps you identify which dog personality best fits you and your lifestyle and what's best for the dog! They do have other breeds there too. I suggest calling them and making an appointment to visit. They have SO MANY WONDERFUL DOGS THERE ready to go home wit you and make your life EPIC! Bless you Ardis and your staff for saving these dogs and connecting them with their loving forever humans! read more

Contacted this facility for a Doberman. My family and I were very interested in adopting one and taking one in to our home. We have had multiple dogs before and are all experienced with dogs. I first emailed this facility with the form they required regarding my home life. I then received an unwelcoming response with multiple questions regarding my life style including personal questions. It almost felt like I was being integrated. Some of the questions/information being asked had nothing to do with adopting one of these dogs. It's very unfortunate this is how I was treated. I had to go elsewhere in adopting a dog since they wouldn't even let me come view the dogs in person. I hope the best to any future customers. read more

An older Doberman walks free on the property. He is obviously sick and hurting. I guess being a "no kill" means to allow him to be in pain until he finally just dies on his own. Dogs are in pins. The aggressive ones will live Thier lives out cooped up and agitated. There were alot of animals with infections. I know humans have been horrible to alot of these animals. But sometimes I wonder exactly what is the quality of life for some of these. read more

SOOOOO impressed with this organization and would highly recommend anyone who wants to adopt a Doberman (or another smaller breed of which they have a variety) take a trip out to Fillmore ASAP! Ardis, who is in charge, is remarkable, incredibly knowledgeable and has such a loving heart which makes the entire process extraordinary! It shows in everything she does and helped us find the most perfect addition to our family. The care and attention given to every single animal under her care, combined with understanding the nuances of matching a dog to a new home makes Ardis and her staff head and shoulders above the rest. They have so many wonderful rescues that need forever loving homes you will be thrilled you made the trip all the way out there! read more

I really love this rescue. What Ardis, Collin and the others do is truly amazing. Both my Dobie and Mountain dog are from there. The love, patience and care that they give each animal is outstanding. I've recommended and supported them for years and will continue to do so because of the tremendous work they do. read more

I have been an adoptor of many Dobies from Dobies and Little Paws over the last few decades. Everyone there works very hard to understand each of the dogs so they can suggest a good fit and have the dog end up at a forever home. I have had Dobies for 50 years and I will continue to adopt from these wonderful people. read more

Contrary to another post Dobermans are really very low maintenance they don't have an odor like many Dogs and I don't agree with bathing them either they should be brushed once or twice a week which they like. Just rescued my 6th Doberman in the last 48 years from Dobies & Little Paws none have ever had a bath. The owner who's my age Ardis Braun is a saint. This wonderful woman has devoted her life to saving these Dogs and even though she has many they get great care until she finds a forever home for them. Go in on a Saturday and see them. Once you've had a Doberman it's hard to settle for anything else. read more

I've had dobies all my life and love them dearly. I had recently lost my litter mates, Scarlet and Rhett, and felt I needed to fill the void. Met the volunteers at the OC Fairgrounds and decided to go visit Dobie Rescue to find my new kid. STERLING was sitting alone in a crate, quietly watching us checking out the barking dobies in the big cages. I kept going back to STERLING b/c he was so sweet and so quiet. I finally decided he must be the one b/c he was trying to tell me that. 7 years later, never a doubt. RILEY (new name) sleeps w/ the rescued cats and has learned not to mess w/ the horses. I am his world and he has made my world complete. this is the first dobie I have not raised from a pup and I would not hesitate to adopt again from Ardis. She knows her dogs and will do her best to match them up appropriately. Any rescued dog has issues and it takes time and patience to learn what they are and work through them. I always advise visitors to just ignore RILEY and let him approach them. He always shows his natural dobie good manners and willingness to please. Dobies are not for everyone but, if given the chance, they are amazingly loyal, protective, loving and gorgeous!!! read more

I rescued a female dobie from Ardis yesterday. The whole process was easy. She is extremely organized and cares so much about the dogs. All of her animals are microchipped and spayed/neutered. She really gets to know each dog and is open and honest about their personalities. She has emailed me today already just checking in on things. If I could give this place 10 stars I would!! read more

Long ago, I got two dogs from the rescue. Both were saved from a high kill shelter by this organization after no other organization would take them. Both were near death. I had to wait six weeks to pick them up because they were being treated and were recovering from starvation, wounds, and various illnesses. Without the generosity and compassion of the rescue, this planet would have lost two sparkling, joyful souls. read more

We have gotten many Dobie pets from them and each has been a homerun. We are experienced Dobie owners and have never been disappointed with any of our adoptees. The staff is great and their leader, Ardis, is one of a kind. We lost our beloved Rocky a few months ago and our girl, Luci, was lonely without him, so we visited and found Thor, whom we renamed RJ(Rocky Jr). He is a perfect match for Luci and for our situation. Thanks for all the help and for the love these dogs bring to us. read more

Went to the rescue with other dogs in mind, NOT a Doberman but after meeting dogs of my choice that didn't work for us, I listened to Ardis. She found the perfect dog for my family: a male Doberman, Gibson. He was such a good boy and was 6 years old at adoption time. I will adopt from them again when I'm ready and would highly recommend this rescue. read more
