What a joke. I had an appointment at 3:10 pm. Got to office at 3 pm. One side appointments only other side walk in. So they take person in front of me that has an appointment for a month from now WTH. So they take him and give him a number to get service. Now it's just about 3:10. Doesn't ask me what time my appointment is just helps a walk in with major paper problems. Okay now my turn 10 minutes late. I have all my stuff ready to go as I did all paper work online. Gives me a number to sit with 25 other people. They keep calling everyone else before me. Finally my turn after 35 min of sitting in with non appointment people. Why the hell make an appointment. Entire government screw up in every way. To hell with appointments and DMV. Don't waste your time. Total appointment 75 minutes for a two minute eye test and picture. read more

I usually never write bad complaints. A few years ago I took my driver test with this awesome lady. So I recommended my sister to go take hers there. I thought this dmv was such an amazing place not only did I recommend my sister to take her test there I went to the extent of recommending some of my friends aswell. But they must of got new employees because all I have heard is negative things back from the people i have recommended there, especially about k.June one of the driver instructors. She tricks people during there test, she plays on her phone the whole time, and she always writes down that the driver drove more than 250ft in the turner lane. She has not only done that to one person but multiple people that have taken the drivers tests with her. First on all no one in the state of California should ever be tricked in their drivers test. Second of all how, as a driver instructor, are you going to have precise grading skills if they're sitting on their phone the whole drive. How was she to even know if they're driving in the lane for more than 250ft before they make a turn if she's playing on her damn phone the whole time. This is outrageous and ridiculous! If anyone thinks about going to the Jackson dmv. Personally I would recommend a different driver or go to Sonora. No kid should work this hard to be let down by a driver instructor and that purposely fails people. She needs to be fired this in ridiculous! read more

The most incompetent dysfunctional group I have ever dealt with! The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing! Went here before my license was to expire because there was no information online with the corona deal. Was told I would get an automatic 90 day extension. I asked if it was going to be mailed to me and was told no. Mind you this is a older gal (That probably has a lot of dmv experience) sitting outside under a popup. I was asked if I had a renewal letter from dmv, yes, ok bring that back next time. Do I need anything else? Did you fill out an application online? Yes, did you print the paper that had a stop sign on it? Yes, ok bring that as well and that is it. Mind you the first thing I said upon arriving is my "Commercial License" is about to expire. A month goes by and I look online again and find out I can print my extension, nice! So with the corona deal it is almost impossible to go in anywhere to get your dmv physical. So I finally find a place to get it done, (Your regular Doctor can no longer do it and the dmv form is no good any longer. No way of finding this out until I get to the "DOT Physical". Fast forward to my extension is about to expire and go to Jackson dmv. They opened at 8 AM that day and I got there at 8:15 and stood in line for about ten minutes. I get to the gal (Young gal that probably has very little dmv experience) that is again outside under a popup and tell her I need to renew my commercial license. OK lets see your paper work, I show everything I was told to bring as well as my extension. OK where is your proof of address? What proof of address? You need two proofs of address. You have to show me your passport or birth certificate. Oh no problem I already uploaded my passport, SS Card and drivers license to this Jackson office and when I was here a few months ago I was told all I needed was the paper with the stop sign on it. Nope, you have to have a passport, I am not getting a real Id, doesn't matter, still need a passport and this letter from dmv that is sent to your PO Box is all you need. I am given a paper that explains everything. So I drive 45 minutes back home to get my passport. I read on the bottom of the paper where it says I only need a SS card if this is the first time getting a commercial license. Ok I don't need it as I have had my class 1 license since I was 18. Go back the next morning early. Get let a different gal that says the letter from dmv is no good today because of the po box, I explain that yesterday it was fine. Nope! Also where is your SS card? I don't need one according to your paper right here. Oh that is wrong you need it. Well I already know how incompetent dmv is; so I brought my SS card anyway, and in anticipation of their incompetents, I also brought another proof of address. See bottom of attached picture. Unbelievable!!! So I get inside to the young gal at the counter, now after all the back and forth yes and no outside I don't know what I am getting into now. Absolutely no problems! What a circus of fools !!! Given different information concerning registering an out of state auto two days in a row. Couldn't verify my VIN the first time I tried because they only had 6 employees (said no one could leave the building) Told me to come in the early morning or at 2pm. Renewed my drivers license this morning... Been fifteen years since the last time actually in the DMV office for a renewal... WOW... What a pleasant experience!!! The staff was gracious, informed and helpful... I had an appointment, but because of some other scheduling for today showed up an hour earlier to just read until my time came... Was called within about twenty minutes of arrival because others with earlier appointments were promptly received and handled... Was out of the DMV Jackson office at least half an hour BEFORE my original appointment was scheduled... At 75 years old, have been in DMV offices all over Northern California for nearly sixty years... I have "pain" stories in some of those other offices... Not here... Would urge anyone with a DMV issue to consider a ride to Jackson in beautiful Amador County for whatever is their need... The fact that the only negative review is local speaks volumes. Those of us who've gotten desperate enough to drive out here (beautiful drive, btw) have had the misfortune of dealing with inefficient cr@pholes such as Carmichael or Folsom DMV. Locals have no clue how good they have it. I was spoiled too, having come from out of state where the DMVs had separate number lines for people doing small, simple things like getting replacement sticker tabs, or big things like getting 1st time driver's licenses. A novel concept, right California DMV? I had no clue how bad it could be until I was turned away twice because no one could figure out how to pull info from an out-of-state DL. Then requiring a birth cert. Not telling me that if I'd need a marriage license if my name was different (guess they didn't notice I was female so they could warn me ahead of time.) Maybe they just assumed I was a feminine man with long hair and breasts and a high voice. I went to Jackson as a last resort with my birth cert and marriage cert. First I handed over my WA license and heard typing sounds, then "Ready to have your picture taken?" Wait,what?! That's right. In Jackson I finally was fortunate enough to run across a courteous DMV employee who knew what the hell they were doing. In and out in an hour's time. Genuine, triumphant grin on my DL photo. Absolutely the WORST DMV I have ever been to. Not only were the people immensely rude, they were incredibly slow. It took more than 45 minutes to work through 3 customers. I was passed between 2 reps, neither of which said hello or even remotely seemed interested in doing their job correctly or efficiently. I would have listed this DMV as a zero star if it would've let me, and will gladly drive the 40 minutes to another DMV to avoid dealing with these people again. read more

It's no secret DMVs visits are always dreadful, or at least that's what I thought until earlier this morning. I went in fairly early, which was a great Idea since I didn't have to wait long at all. I'm sorry I didn't catch her name but the lady who helped me out was exactly that: very helpful. She was very nice and very patient with me. Honestly, I did NOT think the day would come that I would ever give Jackson DMV a 5 star, but they deserve it. I had made an appointment online for my REAL ID(that's a huge part of the success-make an appointment!!). Thank goodness because there had to be 20 people or more there. They have it set up where you come in, wait in a small line and get a pre appointment scrub-basically a girl at the counter goes through all of your paper work and let's you know if you're ready for the next step which is waiting for you number to come up. It's good because if you're missing something, you don't have to sit and wait for 30+ minutes to find out and have to restart the process. Anyway, I was seated maybe 5 minutes and my number came up. Got into another line, which was maybe 1 minute, then to the counter where the girl that helped me was so smiley, friendly and efficient. They have a TV on the wall now-closed caption only, and they even play music which probably helps boost their moods. So, while I was initially dreading my REAL ID appt, it worked out better than ever and the new set up is awesome along with the friendly faced DMV workers. read more

I showed up on a Friday at lunch time to renew my driver's license. The waiting area had about 25 people and I thought I'm going to be here a long time. To the contrary, I found that the process was noticeably efficient, and I was in and out within 30 mins. Of particular note was the professionalism and friendliness of the DMV employees who took care of my paperwork, eye test and photo. DMV in CA seems to get it's share of complaints, but my experience was great. Kudos to the Jackson office staff......not just for renewing my license quickly, but also for the way you patiently listened and helped others who came in with their own set of license and/or registration problems. read more
