When I considered hiring a designer for our new home, I felt nervous and excited. I had never had professional help in decorating and I knew we needed it--we had a two month old when we bought our house, which was twice as big as our old flat. I can't tell you what a relief it was when Daniel came to meet us and was totally clued in to our needs for functionality and baby-friendly furnishings, accents, etc. I am very committed to eco-friendly, natural materials and Daniel took seriously all of my preferences, our family aesthetic, and environmental values. He was also great at honing in on our spending personality--some things we were willing to splurge on--others didn't make sense for a home destined for small children and two crazy cats. Our home would never look this amazing--even now, two plus years later--if it were not for Daniel and his clear vision and ability to be an advocate for his client's interests and needs on every level. He is beyond friendly, easy to work with, and extremely professional. He has a rolodex of references for sub contractors (we continue to call on some of them from time to time for maintenance/repair) and treats every project as if it were for his own home. If there is a downside to hiring Daniel, it is that you will always have a more discerning eye in your own home that will prod you to keep on beautifying--and it's so tempting to keep calling him back for more guidance and expertise. The upside to this is that I learned so much from him while he was helping us that I can sometimes hear his voice in my head when I'm considering a purchase or a change. Finally, he is not afraid to get in there and do things himself to prepare for a sub who is coming in--and there is no element of your home that he is not interested in improving. In addition to sourcing and recommending furnishings, he gardened for us, hired painters, helped choose fixtures for a renovation project, and once trimmed our cats claws because they so clearly needed it! He clearly enjoys what he does and there's obviously a very special quality to someone who has such good taste and yet is down to earth, warm, and unpretentious. read more
