This review is based on the Monday Beginner's Beach Clinics from 6PM-8PM…read more I enjoy the beginner's beach clinic on Mondays. I first did a drop in, paid $25 via venmo. Then registered via their website and brought a class pass which came with some of a discount. I was uncertain if I would make it as I've been super tired after the work days, but after the warmups, I'm glad I did it.My first experience, I remember thinking, "Why did I decide to do this?!" Granted that I was also very out of shape after the holidays. There's area specifically lit for sand volleyball and a area with 3 benches along with a table under a gazebo. Parking is plentiful even if it's crowded as there's areas in the front that you can park, just have a tiny bit more steps to walk. There is a area for you to rinse your feet next to the building by the sand courts. The bathrooms are in the front lobby inside. From this last Monday, 2/28, I believe they're doing construction so you may have to walk to the way left, go under the volleyball net areas next to the wall, turn in to your right twice and you should find the double doors leading to their lobby area. Coach Keenan checks everyone in when it's around 6PM, to make sure payments are all received. If you get missed, check in with him. Everyone can bump and throw the ball in the beginning. Then Coach Mandy usually brings everyone in for a circle to introduce herself and Coach Keenan before brining everyone else's names. Then the warmups begin. You don't necessarily need to do all of them, but it's good to do majority to warm up before the drills. Structure that Rebecca Y mentioned in her review is approximate from 5/10/21: warm ups, passing drills, setting drills, hitting drills, serving drills, serving games, then king of the mountain (two on two). The drills can also differ from each week. Some days we only concentrated on two portions. For example, this past Monday, 2/28/22, they concentrated on passing and hitting drills mainly. King of the mountain is two on two ratio. Two people play together on one side (A) as a team and two other people play as a team on the other side (B) to challenge. The B side are basically the challengers. If the people on the B side score a point, then the people from the A side come off and go on line to challenge. The winners go to the A side, and then the next group of 2 go on the B size to challenge. You usually have to keep track of the amount of points you get before you get elevated to the next court or go down to the next court (there are 3 courts in total, so dependent on which court you're randomly selected to). Prior to the clinic, I was attending the beach volleyball meetup Volleyballers which take place on Sunday. I got frustrated with not being able to pass to my teammates during the game because I swung out of habit. After joining the clinic, I've gotten a bit better to not swinging out of habit, to instead use my legs (like my meetup teammates have constantly advised me on) to set the ball. Some of the newer drills like on the final and 3rd step, with your back, calculate to hit the ball, or the pokey (the knuckle tap hit), or serving overhand are areas I'm working on. I've had very positive sessions with other attendees, and always feel like I'm learning. Practice makes perfect! So suggestion for anyone curious, check out the class via drop in to see if this fits what you're looking for. Keep in mind some things: -There is no social distancing as it's a sport. When playing together, there's not much you can do to social distance. But on the perk side, you're outside instead of indoors. -This is a beginner's clinic, not a private group class, so don't think you would get helped on everything. The coaches do demonstrations and give tips when they're nearby you. If you have a question, you can go up and ask them. -Because it's a beginner's clinic, and if you're new, don't feel bad for not being able to hit the ball up, or feeling so behind everyone. The main reason there are attendees to this clinic is because we all want to improve/work on something. Some have been coming for months, some are more athletic than others. Don't compare yourself. Everyone has to start somewhere. It does get chilly during the evenings in Jan-March as the clinic is from 6pm-8pm. Would suggest getting sand socks so your feet don't get super ice cold. I got mines off of Amazon. For drinks, water or a electrolyte drink should be helpful. I find the electrolyte drinks (Propel) to be nice as I break out in a sweat and I'm losing the walk through the sweat. A towel is optional if you wanted to rinse your feet and wipe off the sand. And once again, this is solely my opinion/views from my experience. You're entitled to your own.

I am extremely disappointed in how Coast Volleyball Club handled the end of season tournament for…read morethe high school team. My daughter dedicated real time, effort, emotion, and commitment to this club. Blood, sweat, tears -- and as a parent, I spent thousands and thousands of dollars supporting her participation. What happened at the final tournament was incredibly disheartening. None of the girls from her team showed up for the last game, so she was not able to play. Which I understand they have no control over. That's not the issue here.... Read on. Earlier that day, another Coast team had played and apparently received medals. My daughter had to stand there and see other players with beautiful medals on pink ribbons, only to later be told very casually by a coach, "Sorry, can't play without any girls," and that was basically the end of it. There was no encouragement. No acknowledgment that she showed up. No "thank you for being here." No recognition of her effort. No participation medal. No meaningful support from the coaches in a moment that was clearly upsetting for a teenager who genuinely loves volleyball. Youth sports clubs should be about more than just money, schedules, and the strongest players. They should help build confidence, sportsmanship, resilience, and love for the game. Even if a player is not the best or most popular on the team, she still deserves to feel seen, valued, and respected -- especially after a season of commitment. For the amount families pay, I expected more care, more leadership, and more basic compassion. Instead, my daughter left in tears feeling overlooked and dismissed. As a parent, that is incredibly disappointing and dissatisfying. I hope Coast Volleyball Club takes this feedback seriously and does better for future players, especially the girls who show up, give their best, and deserve to be treated like they matter.

It honestly doesn't take much to make a gym great, but Bay Club feels stuck in the past. The men's locker room is gross and smells. There's a persistent musky odor that's hard to stomach, likely coming from old carpet that's clearly been there for years. The men's showers are equally bad, with hair everywhere, inconsistent cleanliness, and low water pressure, which makes the entire experience feel unhygienic and poorly maintained. The men's sauna is especially concerning. There appears to be little to no ventilation, creating a heavy, stagnant environment that can allow dangerous CO buildup. On top of that, the walls and benches in the sauna are extremely outdated, reinforcing the sense that this space hasn't been refreshed or properly maintained in a long time. The products provided (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) are low quality and full of questionable ingredients, which feels completely out of place for a club charging premium prices. The weight room is constantly messy, with plates scattered everywhere and mismatched equipment. It feels chaotic instead of intentional. The outdoor gym is another huge missed opportunity. With the space and climate, it could be incredible, but instead it feels underdeveloped and outdated. Overall, everything just feels old and complacent. There's so much opportunity here, yet it seems like no one is pushing to raise the standard. After experiencing what a well-run gym can be, this falls short. I'll probably be canceling soon unless major improvements are made

Every time I'm in SD, I always swing by for a memory and dip. This last time was atrocious. The place is FILTHY. The lobby upon entry is not welcoming; the entry desk is full of dust and card readers are broken, etc. The pool itself has more chlorine than I ever remember and was the cloudiest I've ever seen it. The lounge chairs are either missing cushions or have ripped covers. The old skool clock (that comes in handy) has been missing the last two times I was there....but the locker rooms. OMG. The tiled showers are SLIMY, there are hair balls and soap scum in every drain. It's not only a walking hazard but just disgusting. I filled my water bottle at the fountain and the next day it had black dots growing on the sides. This place is infested with bacteria and mold. Aquatic recreation facilities require daily deep sanitizing and cleaning and this facility is not being maintained or managed properly. As a campus that invest millions in educational skyscrapers, the funding seems available for maintaining facilities properly. I hope they can get it together. Not only will I miss visiting this facility but future and past students deserve better.

If you're looking for tournament play, there are 8-ball tournaments hosted here every quarter. The community and people working here are really friendly and willing to answer any questions about the place. Most of the customers that come by here are undergraduate & graduate students whom are all very friendly as well. Because of the age group that come here, the music taste is more on the mainstream and electronic dance music side which to me, fits my personal taste. Basically, if you're unfamiliar with ucsd or with anyone here, this is a good place to meet friends because people here are pretty willing to play with anyone. Additionally, the place is located conveniently next to restaurants and bars (ie Shogun, Burger King, Rubio's, Panda Express, Tapioca Express, Porter's Pub, etc) and the ucsd bookstore, an expensive store but has a variety of items to select from. The games offered here don't just stop at pool. Ping pong, foosball, and many board games are also offered here. Ping pong goes for $2/hour and foosball for $0.25 a game. I highly recommend coming here as this place has become like a second home to me even though I've only been coming here for a year or so.

Her standards are high which I appreciate. I have been to too many gyms where coaching and feedback are non-existent. Bonus: yoga class, eldoa class, weightlifting class, food for sale, squatty potties in the bathrooms, showers available. Would definitely be my home gym if I lived in the area.

I don't think it's possible to have asked for more from a trainer. I have a couple weird and rare health issues that get in the way, and he's always helped figure out a way to work around them. Because of these issues, my weightloss has been very slow, but I have managed to lose about 10lbs (and counting) and I don't even know how much body fat since I first started. I look and feel like a completely different person. Unlike a lot of trainers at big box gyms, Jason KNOWS his stuff. He has a college degree in Kinesiology, and not just an 8 week certificate some places are happy with. When you ask him a question, you can be certain you're getting the best answer. He is constantly bettering himself by attending seminars and classes to keep himself up to date, all for the sake of his clients. Jason is 100% focused on his clients health, fitness, and happiness. He goes out of his way to get to know each individual, so each workout is specific just for you. It's your success he is after, even if that means you've gotten to a point where you're ready to work out on your own. Knowing it would likely mean I would stop coming in for training, he helped me get an amazing deal on some of the best equipment around to start my home gym. His challenge series keeps you motivated, and adds a fun and social competition aspect to training. If you are looking for a trainer, look no further. You will not find anyone better in the area, or probably anywhere. I am very sad to be leaving Jason and the great environment at the facility, but because of him, I'm ready to do this on my own, successfully.
