The compost contains herbicide residue--likely persistent types that are harmful to sensitive crops. When I brought this up to the owner, he blamed my growing techniques and even suggested testing my native soil. I declined, and instead asked him to test the compost I bought--which he refused. It quickly turned into a blame game, and I chose to end the discussion. I'm posting this review so others can make informed decisions before using this compost. This nursery has a peaceful and well-organized layout. They had a wonderful selection of popular items including indoor plants, succulents, orchids, fruit trees, flowering plants, and bonsai. Since I am into succulents it was nice to see the variety they had in stock. Only downside is the pricing of these succulents. I also looked at orchid and pondered whether to replace my indoor collection but the pricing was a bit too high for me to justify replacing all my indoor orchid plants. So instead, I picked one new succulent and one beautiful purple orchis and checked out. I also browsed their collection of ceramic planters and seasonal garden decorations to get some inspiration for my own backyard. Overall, service was good. The staff was very knowledgeable about plant care and watering tips and they gave me advice on keeping my succulents and orchids alive. HAHA we will see how they behave in the next few months. In conclusion, good shopping experience here. Will be back here if my new plants need more tender loving care advice!

When I first emailed this company a few years ago, I had no idea that they only dealt in bulk. On…read moremy email, I stated the size of my raised bed and they responded that I will probably need 1/2 a cubic yard to cover it. So I made the schlep down to their location thinking that I would be getting 1/2 a cubic yard's worth. When I got there, I could see giant mounds of different types of mulch and compost and whatnot. Large trucks were coming and going being loaded by construction vehicles. And there I was in my tiny minivan. When I entered the main office, there were signs everywhere stating that the minimum order was one whole cubic yard. Uh oh. I only needed 1/2 a cubic yard. I whipped out my phone and reread the email I had received. No where did it explicitly say that they would sell me 1/2 a cubic yard. Then again, no where did it mention that the minimum order was one cubic yard either. I showed the nice lady in the office the email exchange and she immediately understood the confusion. She thought for a moment and then allowed me to purchase my 1/2 cubic yard. STAR NUMBER ONE! A year later, I absentmindedly came back thinking that I could buy another 1/2 cubic yard of mulch. It wasn't until I stepped into the main office and saw those Minimum-One-Cubic-Yard signs glaring at me that it dawned on me that the previous year had been an exception she had made for me. D'Oh! What am I a going to do? As we both stood there looking at each other, she again relented and allowed me to buy less than the minimum. STAR NUMBER TWO!! So I went out to the yard and started shoveling my 1/2 cubic yard of mulch into trash bags that I had brought. While I was doing this, one of the workers there came over and handed me one of his shovels which were bigger and deeper and more suited for the job. I'm sure he justed wanted me out of there ASAP, but it was a nice gesture nonetheless. STAR NUMBER THREE!!! On my third visit, on the following year, I decided to do it properly and brought a pickup truck. I bought the minimum one cubic yard and they promptly dumped it into my truck bed. When I went to cover the mound, however, I realized that the tarp I had just bought for the occasion did not have any rivets for me to tie it down with! Gahhhh! How will I transport this mulch home on the freeway? Lo and behold, one of the guys working there came over and weighed down my tarp with various tree stumps and promptly sent me on my way. STAR NUMBER FOUR!!!! Well fast forward to yesterday when I came back again for my annual mulch needs. One cubic yard was way too much. Even 1/2 a cubic yard was more than I needed. I decided to bite the bullet and pay the premium for the individual 1.5 cubic feet bags this time around. By now, I have a son and he's 2.5 years old. He loves playing with his construction toys so I thought I'd take a video of the life-size construction vehicles in action to show him when I got home. Unfortunately, they had already finished loading all of the trucks by then. So the owner (presumably) came out and directed one of his workers to SIMULATE PICKING UP A LOAD AND DUMPING IT INTO A WAITING TRUCK! Just so that I can video-record it! How awesome is that??? STAR NUMBER FIVE: THE BIGGEST STAR OF ALL!!!!! I'm sorry to read some of the negative reviews on this company. I can only tell you that my experience with them has been nothing less than stellar! I am obviously not their target customer, yet I have received nothing but the best service from them. 5 stars all the way!

I then checked the Polywood website, but the pricing was much higher than I expected, so I decided to visit Backyard Expressions instead. They have several locations near me, and I visited two of them before finally choosing the perfect patio set. What impressed me most was their huge selection of styles, colors, and configurations. Not only did they have exactly what I wanted, but their price was also 5% lower than ordering directly from the Polywood website. Sean and Sarah were incredibly helpful throughout the process and took the time to answer all my questions and help me make the right choice. As a pleasant surprise, Jim, the owner, personally delivered my furniture himself. That level of service is hard to find these days. Backyard Expressions is a wonderful family-run business, and I love supporting local family-owned companies. The customer service was outstanding from start to finish, and I'm extremely happy with my new patio furniture. I told him the exact model I wanted and also mentioned that I needed the same base model but with lights. He pointed to a display grill and said, "This one has lights," which I assumed was just showing the feature, not telling me that I would be receiving that exact floor model. We confirmed the model number and accessories,and made the payment. Happily left until I saw the delivered items. What showed up at my house was a used, disassembled floor model in terrible condition. I was never,not once, told that I was buying the display unit. When I ask what happened, Sean told me the discount was "because it's the floor model." That explanation makes no sense because I've bought from them before with a discount and still received new products. A discount does NOT automatically mean the item is used, damaged, or from the showroom, especially if the salesperson never disclosed it. No professional salesperson should assume that pointing at a display grill means the customer has agreed to purchase that exact worn floor model. We were very clear about the model number we wanted. This whole experience made me feel completely misled and very disappointed. I hope management will take this seriously and reach out to resolve it, because this is not the level of transparency or honesty customers expect, especially for a return customer for so many years.

While the plants are fine, I found the overall experience not worth returning for, especially considering the prices, which feel high and not always clearly marked. Several times I only learned the final cost at the register, which creates an uncomfortable surprise at checkout. The customer service has consistently been the main issue. I was not greeted warmly, and when I asked questions or requested help, the responses felt curt and unfriendly. On a couple of occasions, I also felt ignored or met with negative body language from staff, which made the experience uncomfortable rather than enjoyable. I also found their promotions confusing and inconsistently applied. I was informed of a 20% discount for wearing a soccer jersey during the World Cup. When I came in wearing one, I was told the promotion only applied on weekends. Even though today is a holiday and the store will be closed for the Fourth of July weekend, the discount was still denied. Overall, the combination of unclear pricing, inconsistent promotions, and unwelcoming service has led me to decide not to return. I do not recommend this store.

Staff was friendly and offered to bag the 5 gallon pot to prevent the soil spilling all over the car.
