DJ Darrell is the Best! What a great experience! 100% professional and on schedule. He is friendly, charming, easy to talk to, with a great sense of humor, and kept the crowd partying on the dance floor the whole night. Everyone loved him! The songs played were awesome. Okay I'm going to try and not be too harsh. I wrote a very long review of these guys on my livejournal already. I hired DJs Unlimited for my wedding reception. For reference, my wedding was in October 2007. I first contacted them in March 2007. I filled out their forms, and agreed to pay them $500 for their services. They do not require a deposit. I contacted them again in August to make sure they still had us in their schedule. They did. I contacted them again at the beginning of October so that I could meet with my DJ and discuss song choices with the DJ. One of the DJs called me back and told me he'd be DJing my wedding. He was kind of rude and kept saying, "I can't believe you've waited this long to get a DJ, I can't believe you've waited this long to contact us!" After SEVERAL of these comments, I was like, UMMM I first reserved yall in March. He seemed surprised. Later in the conversation, he said he could meet with me to talk in Round Rock. I live in Houston. My wedding was going to be in Houston. He was shocked, he thought my wedding would be in Austin. Apparently, because my cell phone number had a 512 area code (I went to school there), DJs Unlimited assumed my wedding would be in Austin and didn't take the time to read a few lines down on their form and see that my wedding would be in Houston. So they assigned me the Austin DJ. Fine. I guess that's an easily-made mistake. A few days later I met with this DJ in person. He kept making comments like, "Wow I've never met a bride like you before, I can't believe you haven't chosen these songs yet!!!!!" He wasn't saying this in a joking fashion, he was actually taken aback by my "lack of preparation". And the songs he couldn't believe I hadn't chosen were the flipping cake cutting song and anniversary dance song. I apparently wasn't bridezilla enough for him because I wasn't f-ing freaking out about the cake cutting song! Anyway, I was not very happy with being insulted by a DJ. During this meeting, I also paid an extra $250 for a screen and projector system to be set up and run during the beginning of the reception. When I met with the reception people, they told me I could get a screen and projector for them for $150. I contacted DJs Unlimited and told them I was canceling my order for the screen and projector. I get another call from the DJ concerning my songs, I think we were confirming another song choice. He again seemed to be under the impression that my wedding was in Austin. I told him it was in Houston. Fast forward to a few days before the wedding. I receive a call from another DJ, different from the one I previously dealt with, and he tells me he will be the DJ for my wedding. Okaaay. Fine. This guy tells me that he knows where my reception location is and he will see me on Saturday. The DJ was fine at the wedding, although of the 5-6 songs I requested be played that I had discussed with the first DJ, only one was played. These songs were special to my husband and I, and they were left out. The real irritation I had with DJs Unlimited was that it took them a good 5 months and many, many phone calls for them to refund my $250. I was so irritated. I first canceled the order in mid-October and did not receive a refund from them until mid-March. To be honest, I would not recommend DJs Unlimited to anyone. They were probably the most difficult wedding vendor I dealt with. I did not appreciate being insulted by the first DJ, and I really didn't appreciate them constantly telling my husband our check was in the mail when it wasn't. They get two stars because the DJ at the wedding was an overall good DJ. Dealing with the company, however, was not a good experience. read more

I met with Kyle in person to go over our ceremony and reception ideas, and Kyle really understood our vision. We were at a wedding last weekend where DJ's Unlimited was playing. They were definitely the WORST part of the wedding. After we ate, we were all ready to get up and start the dancing. There were a couple good songs, but the dj would transition abruptly to another song. We figured this was just early in the evening to get everyone up. It kept up all night. There would be maybe 60 seconds of a song, then an abrupt transition. And every time the dance floor would finally get going, he would kill it by transitioning from the song we were enjoying to a terrible song for dancing. After about an hour, we actually thought we were on some sort of candid camera show. The DJ definitely hurt what should have been a fantastic evening. read more

I hired DJU for our wedding. We needed a basic DJ, but nothing too fancy. Looking around it was one of the best prices for what I needed. They did not try to upsell me all sorts of other junk they had (although at the bridal extravaganza, I thought they were a bit aggressive). Since they were a preferred vendor, it was great that they knew exactly what they needed for my venue (Briscoe Manor). They were on time, professional, dressed appropriately, and email responsive. They checked and double checked the song selections for intros/first dance/father-bride dance/groom-mother dance/cake cutting/bouquet toss. They played all the songs we wanted and kept everything on schedule. Criticisms: (1) they kind of garbled the wedding party introductions. Totally skipped a groomsman/bridesmaid pairing. Not a huge deal. (2) Music mix was great until later that night (the "dancing" part); the mix of music was a bit...umm schizophrenic. I'm not sure if it's because I banned Ke$ha (barf) or other favorites like electric slide and YMCA, but the music switched from dance mixes to slow songs really fast. Not a huge deal for me because half the guests were outside enjoying the weather, and others were messing around in the flipbook booth. (3) You don't find out who your DJ is till the week of, and by then, you can't remember who you met with and what you told them originally. Overall, DJU did a great job, and followed the planning sheet to a T. I have recommended them to my other friends. read more

I've only seen these guys perform for high school groups. Like, high school dances, homecomings, proms, and the medical forum at the Renaissance Hotel. They will drop it like it's hot, walk it like a dog, and cupid shuffle their way from the window to the wall. The DJs are professional and experienced in getting a group of high schoolers worked into a frenzy. I myself have played my part ensuring the high school couples are making room for the Holy Ghost and wearing shoes for their own safety. They also offer karaoke. Ahh, high school. Nothing like seeing a bunch of kids who think they can sing, try. Oh, and they can play edited versions of the more vulgar songs, but you can't always bleep out the karaoke if the kids decide to inject the real lyrics. So...if it wasn't clear, their market is for high schools/teen parties. They probably would not be so great as a wedding DJ. read more

We used DJs Unlimited for our wedding, and ended up very pleased with the service. We met with them TWICE to discuss things, and also met with the DJ a separate time. We had a very long music list that we wanted them to use - much longer than we would actually need, but we wanted the DJ to stay within our list but be able to read the crowd. Maybe because we met with them multiple times (and my fiance actually called them another time, also), things worked out great for us! They never once said they would not use our music list. (We interviewed a couple of other DJ groups that didn't even want to talk about a particular list, because they felt strongly that brides and grooms couldn't put together a good playlist!) DJs Unlimited did caution us that what we thought might be a good list for us sometimes might not work with the crowd, but they would play what we wanted. We met multiple times to actually discuss the music list, including things we did NOT want played. Our DJ was great, super-friendly, and actually more organized than our wedding planner regarding the reception. He kept people on the dance floor literally all night long. He was very good at reading the crowd. I originally would of liked to slow dance more with my new husband, but that wasn't the feel of the room. Only a couple of things for constructive criticism: My "most favorite" songs (they were marked on the list) he played first, during the buffett, when no one was supposed to be dancing yet. I went over to him a couple of times and told him I would like to hear that song again later when I could dance with my husband, and he gladly obliged. But, I guess since the songs were also songs that other people liked, we were all SO READY to get out on the floor when the time came around! The last thing: we had bride & groom "trivia" with prizes that the DJ was supposed to call out throughout the night. We had discussed this with him previously, and he already had the list, but he simply forgot. We reminded him a couple of times, so he did end up asking most of the questions to our guests. BTW, the trivia turned out to be a hit! Just wish he had started it earlier, because we ended up taking a few of the prizes back home with us. All in all, the DJ was great! He was very friendly and very "crowd conscious" - our guests have repeatedly told us what a fun time they had at our reception! We would definitely use DJs Unlimited again. read more

Our wedding was back in February, after settling into our new life and really thinking about the way some things were handled we decided to post comments about our experience. DJU did not return my e-mails despite them clearly stating on the website that they encourage meetings to discuss details. I sent two separate e-mails and never got a response from Jason or Jeff, they did not even acknowledge my requests. The only time I talked to anyone ahead of time was when our planner called them from the office the day before the reception. I didn't like having to go over the event 15 minutes before it started and then realizing the DJ had the old program. That was really stressful and the mistakes were noted during the event. Luckily our DJ, tried his best and was nice about it but in the end it was very upsetting. We also paid extra to rent the big screen and were expecting a "full screen" presentation and expecting to benefit from having professional items at our disposal. Instead our slide shows were only half size of the screen so apparently it was not prepared before hand and not adjusted properly. In addition, we were told the DJ would have the white light stand as presented to us and be in the corner of the room, this would have covered all the bulky components and computer. That didn't happen either and the presentation of it was horrible. If everything we saw before was part of an upgrade, I had no way of knowing since no one got back to me through phone or e-mail when I had questions. This was by far the worst service from any vendor during our events. Our wedding planner wrote to them about our concerns but none of us heard a single thing back, neither an apology nor an explanation. Don't waste your wedding money and memories on this service, you will probably be better off with another. read more

I went to a wedding last night at Kim Son in downtown (11/12/2011) and the wedding had a photo booth provided by DJ U Productions. Let me tell you, the person manning the photo booth in charge of the station was AWFUL. He was very rude. I asked him if we could keep both pictures and this is what he said verbatim (in a rude tone), "The bride and groom is supposed to keep one copy, but I honestly don't really care." The rest of the night, he did not smile once, was not friendly at all, and was just on his cell phone most of the night. I see that this company has great reviews for their DJ services but if you were looking to rent a photo booth, I'd go to someone else or a different company. You do not want to risk having someone RUDE and OBNOXIOUS interacting with your wedding guests. It just puts your guests in a bad mood and not wanting to use the photo booth that you pay big bucks for. read more

This would be a negative amount of stars if the category existed. For my daughters wedding, we contracted with DJU at the Bridal Extravaganza. They were a preferred vendor for our venue, and had tons of great reviews on the web. We had a face to face meeting 5 months prior to wedding with Guy. He told us to get song choices in right away as Dj's were assigned on first come basis, and based on fit for type of reception. A month prior to wedding, no assignment. Told would be done two weeks prior, not to worry, he had requested a Top DJ for us. Two weeks prior, told delay in assignment due to someone being out in vacation. Finally, just a few days prior to wedding (less than a week) we get assigned, and the DJ ask for our song list? It was sent no less than 5 times. The night of event, while setting up, the manager of the venue tells him his sound tests don't sound right. He basically says "it is what it is" and doesn't try to correct. When the bride/groom go to enter the room, he tells everyone to stand and turn around... So, guests are turned backwards when bride/groom enter. His sound is garbled, no one can understand anything he says. As a MC, he was completely useless. To add further insult, he begins playing dance music during dinner, when entire playlist for dinner was coffeehouse style music. Even though the groom pulled the email with list up, this guy just couldn't get it. There were "must plays" throughout the evening, you guessed it, they never got played. I would never consider using DJU for anything, ever. I sent an email right after event, told them honestly that their services were the only service I was disappointed with, and why. That was a week ago. No phone call, no return email. Do yourself a favor, look elsewhere for a DJ. For a wedding reception, they cannot be trusted to deliver. read more

We used DJ's Unlimited for our wedding this past Sunday (10/10/10) and Jason was our DJ. We could not have asked for a better experience. We sent in our program sheet by email and then met with him about two weeks before our wedding. Jason had great suggestions for ways to make the day special and songs to add in. On the day of, he was on time, smiley, and did a fantastic job, getting so many guests up dancing and keeping them all informed about what was happening. Jason met with me before the ceremony to ask a few last-minute questions and was in such a great mood that it put me at ease. He did both our ceremony music from a CD I provided as well as our reception. I was secretly thrilled when the best man told me that Jason wouldn't play his song request (he had asked for a song we had on the Do Not Play list). I told best man to ask for something else and was psyched that our instructions were followed. Throughout the night, if we needed something, Jason was there. He wasn't in our faces but popped up at just the right moments to check in with us. Everything went so smoothly from start to finish and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend DJ's Unlimited and Jason specifically to any Houston bride! read more

DJU provided the lightening for our wedding and "wow" it looked fantastic. Our wedding planner was the one that suggested DJU to us and told us that we needed some "special" lighting for our event. We went along with her advice because it was under our budget but we didn't really see how important the lighting would be for the wedding; but WOW. When we entered our reception space we were blown away the lighting completely changed the room. They did a steel gobo that displayed leaves and branches in amber, green, and mint green. It really turned our reception space into a magical forest which is the image we were going for. The lighting and gobo was absolutely gorgeous and we were so happy we listened to our wedding planner in getting the extra lighting for our wedding. They also provided the scissor lift which was used to hang a grid from the ceiling that had candles hanging from it. They provided delivery, set up and take down services for us and they were very professional. They set up and cleaned up in the time that our venue allotted. If you are on the fence about adding lighting to your event, you should go for it! The lighting can really transform the space and DJU did a fantastic job! read more

We hired DJU based on our planner's recommendation for our wedding and were disappointed with our decision. There wasn't a lot of communication to begin with and 3-weeks prior to our wedding, we still had not heard from them to discuss the wedding and our requests. Since their schedule was full at this point, a phone call was all we could do to discuss the details. I wasn't feeling confident with our decision, but at 3-weeks out, it is what it is. The photo booth and lighting package was good, although I was told we would receive an email with a link to the photo booth pictures, but never received the email or link. My biggest complaint was with the actual DJ. He wasn't the nicest person and was rude to my mom when she asked about turning down the music since the speaker was placed right behind my in-laws table and was way too loud to be right behind a table. Several of the songs we requested to be played at various points of the night were not played - cake cutting, last song, etc. There were songs/genres of music played that I asked not to be played, and I was told by several guests that he was taking tips to play songs, which I personally think is tacky. I don't doubt they are a good company, but make sure EVERYONE is on the same page, you have an in-person meeting, and the communication line is working. At the end of the day, we are married, which is what counts, but I wish this portion of an already stressful and chaotic day would have been a lot smoother. read more
