Seriously one of the best clubs I've been to, especially for its size…read more I went on a Monday night and had a great experience in almost every way. (1) The prices are unbelievable (or were in Monday night): no cover charge, 1€ bag check, 6€ for what I think was an entire liter of beer, 3€ shots. Even in Spain that would be a bargain, let alone the middle of Paris. (2) The hours served me really well. I'm always happy to find a club open on weekday evenings. Things were already moving at about 10:00 (very early by European standards). (3) The people were partying! When I arrived there were only about a dozen, but the dancing was very on. Some other clubs seem to wait until the room is packed and the people are drunk, but these people were at it from the beginning. It was almost entirely guys and girls in their early 20s, possibly a couple more guys than girls at the time, but not a huge disparity and possibly a fluke. (4) The music wasn't great but it did the trick. Bunch of over-popular US songs (mostly rock and some hip-hop) mixed with some French numbers. No real DJ work going on but hey, it was party music and it had the people moving. All in all, this is a gem. It's almost certainly a local spot mostly unknown to tourists, which is why it's so subtle, so underpriced, and so concentrated with local energy.

When they saw me sitting there, they threw me out because "my piercing looked like I had been doing drugs". i had to insist to be allowed to as much as wash my hands. They didn't look through my bag or anything, i guess my privates and my piercing were the points of interest? I was later let back in by another security staff member who tried to gaslight me into believing the door was ajar. It was not. I saw it turn in slow motion as I was wiping my blood from my crotch and these two disgusting individuals were standing there shouting at me. Only reason I went back in was because there was no way to get anywhere safely at that time and I had a flight the next day. When I had to pee next I had my camera ready but they only did that once.

So this one time, while waiting for the Eurostar to Paris, I saw Skrillex…read more SKRILLEX! Brutal dubstep DJ extraordinaire! Said sighting was all the more thrilling because I had "seen" Skrillex, in concert In London The very night before Despite all the voices in my head telling me to leave him alone I went to him to say hello. Said "hello" actually kind of sounded like this: "OHMYGODI'msuchahugefanofyoursIsawyouinSanFranciscoandthenlastnightinLondonandIjustthinkyou'rethefuckingshitanddidImentionIwassuchahugefan???" At some point during the above amazing "conversation" He asked where I was going And I said Paris And I asked where he was going And he said Paris And then I joked, "Maybe I'll come see you again tonight" At which point he turned to his manager and said, "Can we put her on the list?" In my head: EEEEEEEEKKKK!!!!!!!! From my mouth: Oh, yeah, I mean, whatever man. Cool. He played at La Machine du Moulin Rouge (Like, inside the old Moulin Rouge!!!!) Observations at La Machine du Moulin Rouge: All the bar staff wore these cute, incredibly French stripey t-shirts. The drinks were an extraordinarily reasonable 4 euros a pop. I learned about a new drink. It's called mojito a la champagne. It's a mojito, but you put the champagne where the soda water used to be. You should get it. I also learned that "tequila" is also "tequila" in French. I love the cramped, super uncomfortable smoking room at the front where you can squeeze yourself against an ungodly number of attractive Frenchmen. I was asked if I had MDMA maybe 6 times in 2 hours. French bouncers are maybe the nicest bouncers in the whole entire world. French gigs are maybe the smelliest gigs you will ever go to in your life.

Ive heard of being under dressed for a venue but not overdressed.. anyways this place sucks and it's filled with tourists and snobs.

Lovely staff, fun crowd, great vibes all around. Crowded enough to have a party. Spacious enough to enjoy it. Just right. Arthur Lastmann was on the decks- absolutely incredible music. He and the other DJ really brought it, and much vinyl was played to boot. The floor was definitely into it. Drink selection could have been better (what is it with Budweiser being the preferred tap beer of Paris?) At least they had Jack Daniels. But a real No BS, very welcoming vibe, all about the music after dealing with utter douchebaggery at another venue around the corner. There is a reason this place is an institution for electronic dance music in Paris. Not the 'new' place, not the 'hot' place, just THE place to party if you don't have the time to venture out to some of the far industrial areas of Paris I love Le Rex.

You won't find anything advertised online (the last true goth club shuttered in 2008), and those frenchies aren't too big on facebook either. Nevertheless I managed to sniff out this place hidden in a backstreet over in Le Marais near the Bastille, and boy was it worth it. Some highlights: ----PROS---- - The setting is VERY MUCH like the Vault in SoHo, NYC. Basically, this was place is a former wine cellar complete with interconnected catacombs deep underground and renovated with a sound system and awesome lighting. Doesn't get better. - Incredible decor complete with authentic medieval suits of armor, swords, and coffins, and laser lights. - Great sound despite being built like a bomb shelter. Great EBM DJs on the night I went there. - Safe, clean neighborhood. I had no problem walking all the way home up Magenta Boulevard at 3am. ----CONS---- - Only open Saturday, and is open from 11am - 2am. Not a lot of time to party for a true night owl to enjoy it. - $10 euro cover - Dancing on stone all night = knee surgery a few years down the road. - The arched cave ceilings are very low: if you are a particularly tall person there is very little space for you to dance. - If you are claustrophobic you will probably not enjoy it here. It is deep underground and labyrinthine. - It is probably far from wherever your hotel is, since most tourists don't stay around the Bastille.

I went over to a man working there near the DJ booth and asked if there was more live music on. He looked super angry and like a thug and shrugged and said 'i don't know' . Then I was wondering what to do as people had dispersed .. I saw a couple smoking a cigarette at the back of the bar. Me being from another country and not knowing French laws followed suit and lit a cigarette. It was such a dark and dingy bar that i wouldn't be surprised for patrons to smoke there. When my cigarette was almost finished the same angry thug looking man came up to me and grabbed my hand aggressively and squeezed it hard manhandling me until my wrist hurt and took the cigarette out of my hand and said 'get out! Get out! You are forbidden to ever be in this club again! You have broken French laws. I'm escorting you out!' I have never been treated like this in my life like I was a thief or a horrible person. I didn't know French laws were as such and it was an innocent mistake. I was manhandled and in the USA I could sue this bar for touching me in this way. I will investigate French laws and might file a claim. No one should aggressively manhandle a woman this way. Disgusting treatment of patrons. He could have kindly asked me to put the cigarette out and I would have complied. Never go this bar. Also expensive drinks
