He executed the music for our ceremony flawlessly and we had zero issues. Tom Thump rocked our wedding last month in Half Moon Bay, and it was great! We made our decision to go with Tom after checking out his weekly gig at The Make Out Room (Loose Joints) in SF and it was a great vibe that night. Lots of people getting down, and having fun. Tom has a vast selection of music (blues, afro-beat, jazz, soul, brazilian), but was also able to accommodate our selections like Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, and 90's hip hop/pop. Bottom line - our guests were dancing the entire night and had a great time. Even the older folks. Tom brought a separate smaller PA and mics for the ceremony, and played our procession/recession music flawlessly in sequence. For the reception, we provided a few Play/Do Not Play lists as suggestions, and Tom was able to incorporate our tastes and kept the party moving. One thing I really liked is that he didn't feel the need to pump up the crowd and instead let his music do it for him. He was also great about incorporating our friends' requests into the flow he had set up. Tom Thump DJ'd our wedding. He can play an incredibly wide range of music. You can certainly tell he lives and breathes it. He got people on the dance floor and played all the music we requested while mixing in some of his own flavors. We didn't want normal music played at our wedding we wanted a more creative blend of music with none of that pop stuff that feels adolescent and he heard us. He'll play anything you want and he is easy to collaborate back and forth. Tom and I where texting quite a bit before the wedding with questions and ideas. Tom DJ'd our wedding in July and we couldn't have imagined better. He is super talented, down to earth and flexible. We gave Tom some guidance of the general mood we were going for, a few songs we wanted to stay away from and then asked him to put his artistic touch on it. From the outset, the music set the right tone for the evening beginning with cocktail hour. It was loud enough for people to appreciate the rhythms and get into a festive mood and also an appropriate volume that did not interfere with conversation and announcements. As the evening progressed, Tom fluidly arranged the music ranging from classic 80s to remixes of Bollywood music. While the music was widely varied, the one constant was that the dance floor was always full. We had several hours of dancing and we were fortunate to have Tom as our DJ because he reads audiences well and kept a constant stream of people engaged. I was searching for a DJ for our wedding on Yelp and Tom was actually the third "5 star" DJ I reached out to - the first just never returned my email or phone call and the second emailed me back immediately but then never responded to me after I asked for a quote. I just don't get it - I understand if you're not available for the date I'm inquiring about, but it always bothered me when people just chose not to respond. Tom, on the other hand, was very responsive and let me know right away about his availability and pricing. And it wasn't just the initial inquiry - he was very good about responding to emails and going over details on the phone right up until our wedding day. Tom had even made time to chat with me the weekend before his very own wedding. My wedding was multicultural and I really wanted to find a DJ who could play both Indian and a mix of other music. Tom shared with us a sample song list but also mentioned he could play anything we wanted - and if he didn't have something in his music collection, he could easily get it. We gave him a selection music that we liked, emailed him names of some other artists/genres we preferred, and then he took it from there. The guests had a great time and were dancing all night so we asked Tom to play for an extra hour and he happily obliged. He genuinely seemed concerned about making sure our day was perfect and I really appreciated that. If you're looking for someone to DJ your wedding or other special event, Tom is your man! read more

My wife and I just got married up in Sonoma, and Tom really did an amazing job! He had our favorites in his system and ready to go, and all of his selections were right on point -- during dinner, and especially when it was time to get things going on the dance floor!! We had some performances that required him to upload tracks and follow some cues, and he pulled everything together flawlessly. My wedding planner was trying to push an 'approved' DJ from one of the companies that does music/events up in that area -- but I am SO glad that we decided to go with Tom instead. I really can't imagine what it would have been like to have somebody with less depth of music knowledge, skill, and style than Tom. Tom is an incredible DJ, he invited us to see him at the make out room for loose joints prior to hiring him, and as soon as we heard him play we knew he was perfect for our wedding this past June. We wanted a DJ who would play funk, soul, and a bit of world music; and would do some of the set on vinyl. He also played all of his awesome Talking Heads and Prince remixes from Loose Joints. Another DJ told us that what we were requesting was unreasonable and that no one would want to dance at our wedding, that we should first think of our guests and what they want to hear. On the contrary, Tom had both our friends and our parents dancing really hard all night long. In fact, as soon as his hired time approached he asked us if we wanted him to stay because he felt the groove was going, so we paid him for another hour so we could keep our friends on the dance floor until 1am and that we did! His wife was also so sweet to wait while he continued playing and packed up. Really, all of this was much beyond what was expected but it was so nice that he was able to read the crowd and keep the party going. Our venue was the Sequoia Retreat Center in Ben Lomond and Tom was incredibly accommodating with all the idiosyncrasies of DJing in a remote venue in the forest. He even coordinated with our friends to record the songs they sang during the ceremony for the film our friend shot of the wedding which was far above and beyond what we had asked for. We highly recommend for any event, wedding party, or a night at the Make Out Room! He is especially great if you are not looking for a typical "wedding DJ." Tom is more like the guy you would want to have at your party, hanging out with your friends and family. He just happens to play good music. If you're looking for an eclectic DJ who knows how to read a crowd, trust him to do his thing and he'll do a great job! read more

Tom DJ'ed our wedding in June and did a fabulous job. He was relaxed, professional, and, most importantly, absolutely spot on with the music. We had an eclectic request list -- from top 40 to old soul and country and 80s/90s stuff -- and he nailed it all. He even kept playing late in to the night for an older couple who wanted to break it down to Jimmy Buffet, which in no way did we want on our play list, but we did want them to have their fun. In other words, he took me and my husband's music requests very seriously, but also worked to keep all our guests happy. He was laid back, fairly priced and super easy to work with. Tom provided the music for our Halloween wedding at Monterey Bay Aquarium just a few weeks ago. We've known each other for years, and I was so happy to be able to have him be apart of our big day doing what he loves. He's been amazing in the club scene, so I knew my wedding would be a walk in the park for him. He took care of the aisle music last minute, so that I didn't have to have my mom try and figure out an iPod, and he was spot-on with the timing of everything. During the reception, he had everyone dancing throughout the entire evening, even during dinner! What first stuck out about Tom is his name. "DJ Tom Thump" had me sold from the beginning. We hired him to DJ for a 200 person company party. We were particular about volume and musical selection and he was very cognizant of that. The music was great and the volume was perfect-we were able to hold conversations without shouting at each other. While he takes the job seriously, he's also easy going and open to suggestions. I first hired DJ Tom Thump back in 2008. He provided the perfect music for my 40th birthday...an afternoon wine party at the San Francisco Yacht Club. He created a very cool vibe and I really appreciated his efforts and always thought if I have another shindig I'll certainly think of him. Fast forward to this last Labor Day weekend, my husband and I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. We renewed our vows out on the Monterey Bay then returned to the Dream Inn to celebrate with family and friends. I remembered Tom being easy to work with, pleasant and a total pro...I hired him again. He was fabulous! Exactly what I had in mind for the evening...perfect beats. After dinner and a few heartfelt speeches he went right into dance hit after dance hit...the crowd never stopped moving. The worst part about the whole evening was that it had to come to an end.
