I am…read morewriting this review as I have recently had some portrait photos done by him which in comparison to portrait photos I have had in the past are outstanding. There are lots of photographers around, some of them very unprofessional in manner and their work is also quite bad, but Jon OConnell is a very nice guy, pleasant who charges reasonable rates and his photography is very good. As a new business I feel I ought to write a review and I have already passed his details to a family member as they are getting married this year and think they would be very happy with him taking their wedding photos.

Aside from this, he is a lovely man who you should not think twice about putting on your wedding list! He gave us the freedom to have what we wanted and encouraged us to come up with our own ideas, whilst using his experience to ensure all the traditional basics were covered. All in all, we couldn't be happier with what John has done, and would recommend him 100%.

We had an unusual experience - while checking in my husband realized he'd left his computer bag on the train. Ross happened to be entering the lobby right at that moment and immediately said he'd drive my husband back to the train station to retrieve it - before the train left. Luckily my husband was able to get his bag back, but definitely not without Ross's help. Thank goodness for Ross and the quickness and kindness he showed. We really appreciated this act of kindness. Now the hotel....we love it! The reception was friendly and attentive, our room is well organized, clean and cozy and with an amazing view! We already can't wait to come back!

I can't help but feel, after spending two nights in Penzance, that this is probably the best hotel…read morein town, but that doesn't make it good. The website presents a picture of what one might want in a hotel on the coast, but doesn't deliver it in any way. It's set in a residential area, which is nice and quiet, and just a short walk to the town center. But, the website is the "best" part of this hotel. We booked a Superior Double sea view room, which despite it being one of the highest-priced rooms at the hotel, was tiny. The furniture is quite scuffed up, indicating years of wear and tear, and there's no place to store baggage where you won't trip over it at some point. What I absolutely hated about this hotel was the parking lot. If you have a large car, don't come here or arrange alternate parking because your car will not fit. I lived in the UK for nearly five years and am accustomed to the smaller parking spaces, but these are ridiculous. They're tiny and strangely angled, making it nearly impossible to park within the spot. In fact, several spaces were unavailable because people had to take up two. You're likely to not have a space to park in if you arrive back late and the hotel is full, as there are far fewer spaces than rooms in the hotel. If they don't have a space, you'll have to find street parking in the adjacent neighborhood. Trying to leave? Good luck. It's a bit of a jam if two cars are trying to leave at the same time, and you'll likely have to blindly back out onto the residential street. Also, the staff is observant, but in a lazy/irresponsible way. For example, at breakfast one morning, the waitress spotted a small bit of food remnants on my wife's bread plate. Instead of simply getting another one, she quickly flicked the material off of the plate and proceeded to continue serving my wife. Gross! Overall, I wouldn't stay here again. It doesn't meet the expectations it sets for itself, and if a business isn't true to itself, how can it be true to the customer?

The food came hot and fast. I got the chicken in the rough with salad and fries. The "salad" was cabbage. Yuck. The rest of it was really good. The mead is also on point, but VERY sweet. Everyone at the table got a different type, so I was able to sample a lot. We arrived right as they opened. It was packed right from the start, so make reservations. Our server appeared to be run off her feet because we rarely saw her. She wrote on the check "service fee is not included." I've never seen that in England before. I am not sure if they were expecting a tip because we're American or what.

There is often pipe music or something similar playing quietly in the background, which is also nice for setting the mood. The food is served on wooden plates and bowls, and no cutlery is given unless your meal type requires it or you actually request it. The waitresses are dressed as serving wenches and you wash your hands between courses using little wooden bowls of water with a piece of lemon floating in them! The signature dish is called chicken in the rough, which is half a chicken cooked in a special oven with gorgeous crispy skin. It is served with chips although you can pick salad or half and half if you want as well. There is a great choice on the menu of starters, mains and desserts and the food is lovely. Although this is 30 mins or so drive from us my dad still prefers to go there than any of the closer ones!

I felt like it was a much more personal service.

My father was a great amateur photographer with his own darkroom. He constantly took family…read morepictures - my mother, brothers and sisters and me. Many a time, as a Harbour Rat,I came. out of the water, drying myself down when CLICK! There was my Dad armed with one of his favourite toys, always catching me unawares. My husband was a great professional photographer,from sunsets, fishing boats, portraits, advertisements, babies in the Studio - shop in Fore Street, Newquay to Weddings and of course beloved surf shots of surfers in action, surfing being his first great passion. His first baby was the first glossy colour surfing magazine in Britain - " Wavelength". He was the late great founding father of Wavelngth in 1981. After he sadly died in 2003 his father sold the mag on in 2004 to Cornwall and Devon Media. Today it is still published under different management again. I reckon, albeit second hand, I can say that Tom Foreman has all the makings of a great, consumat photographer. Don,t stop Tom, giving us well thought out, interesting, quality pictures. I've only rated not stayed here, but my parents have and said its wonderful-however it comes at a price! I can't image most people could justify more than 3 nights, but worth it for a short luxury break:) Despite the smartness, the staff are relaxed and children are welcome:)
