After placing my order on DoorDash I waited about an hour for the order to arrive, per the expected wait time. I wanted to try a few things and save some for later. I ordered the red snapper with fries. The red snapper is slightly cornmeal battered, but barely. I saw it on some pieces of fish and even then it was only in one area or so. Thank goodness I really like fish because it was tolerable, but there really isn't any flavor to it. It was dry too. Same with the fries - it lacked salt and ketchup also wasn't included in the bag. Throughout eating I kept wondering why there wasn't any tartar sauce. The hot sauce added some flavor to the fish though, I will say that. Tartar sauce should always be included. The hush puppies are hush puppies. Good. It's also the only thing I finished. I wish they came with a sauce even if only tartar sauce. The macaroni and cheese isn't classic, but it was okay. I'd still consider it Mac n cheese , but I do prefer down south baked macaroni and cheese with those crispy corners of cheese where the macaroni is a little browned on top in certain areas. Very interesting menu with lots of choices and combinations for breakfast lunch and dinner. Not sure if it has any of the same Dixon family members running it from back in the day but I will say that this establishment is an asset to the community. The parking situation in the lot is very tight and the off street parking is a little sketchy. Only one or two tables available for onsite eating but all and all the chicken and shrimp combo with fries were pretty good and well worth the value. I love this place but the workers are rude , wait time is 30-50 min. They never are open during the time it says. Why they wouldn't be open on Sundays is crazy. I ordered a pick up order on DoorDash. I get to the restaurant and the gate is closed. The other day, I was cruising thru deep East Oakland and happen to pass Dixon's at 90th Ave x International. I ordered a "3-Way Combo" and a "Fried Ribs & Party Wings." The 3-Way Combo: You pick 3 items and a side. I went with chicken, prawns and fish. My side was potato salad. How was it? The fried chicken was okay, it wasn't freshly cooked. But it was seasoned just right. It's not overly salty like KKC (Krispy Krunchy chicken). The prawns were plump and juicy, with a nice flavor. But the fried fish was very good. It was cooked fresh. BTW, I had to wait 20 mins for my order, and I was told nicely that they had to fry the fish. That fish was fresh, flaky and moist. The flavor was delicate, but the crispy crust made is worth the wait! Fried Ribs & Wings: The Party Wings were pretty good size, and nicely seasoned. But the fried ribs were delicious! I don't think I have ever eaten fried ribs. I was afraid that they would be dry and overcooked. Very impressed.....you bite into this meaty sparerib and it's juicy and fatty. The meat is tender and nicely seasoned. Service: staff were friendly and respectful. Dixon's is listed on DoorDash. They forgot my MOTHERS sweet potatoes recently & tried to make it like she lied about them not putting it in the bag. She called the manager, he lied & said he wasn't the manager until my mom said who she was. Weird !! we live near there so I guess it made him feel like he "knows" my mom due to her coming there often with my brother but he doesn't know her, at all. The food is decently priced for the neighborhood and the portions are average. I personally like to order the fish sandwich combo which is about 8.75 with fries and a drink. The fish/shrimp is fried in a classic Louisiana fish fry mix, everything is cooked to order. The chicken is decent also.
