TLDR:
Per my friend, Mr. Dixon is very courteous and respectful. Per me, don't trust him with any electrical troubleshooting (especially parasitic drains) because he isn't competent in that area of automotive repair; go to a mechanic who specializes in electrical diagnosing and repairs, but Mr. Dixon is probably okay with basic automotive repairs.
FULL REVIEW:
I referred my female friend to Mr. Dixon because he had great reviews from multiple sources. My friend had something draining her battery. I usually do all the automotive repairs for her (I was an auto mechanic for many years and I still do all my friends and my own repairs), but I was out of town. She was unable to go to an auto repair shop so I found her the best reviewed mobile mechanic I could find through the internet.
Mr. Dixon came out and looked at my friends car, he spent approximately 2-3 hours attempting to troubleshoot my friends car. He couldn't find anything draining the battery so he assumed it was an intermittent alternator problem. He charged my friend approximately $90 for troubleshooting and left, stating he would return days later to replace the alternator. He returned days later and replaced the alternator, but that did not fix the problem.
After I finished my contract in California, I drove back to Atlanta and started troubleshooting the problem. It was very easy to diagnose, it took me approximately 20 minutes to find what was draining the battery. I ordered the replacement part and one week later I replaced the malfunctioning part and the drain was gone.
Mr. Dixon charged my friend approximately $450 for troubleshooting, labor and an alternator that she didn't need.
It cost me approximately 30 minutes of labor and an $18 part off ebay (because you can't buy it new anymore).
What should have cost my friend $78 (1 hour minimum labor @ $60/hour [maybe a little more since he's a mobile mechanic] + $18 part), ended up costing her approximately $450 because Mr. Dixon doesn't know how to properly troubleshoot a parasitic drain.
I was told he was very polite and courteous, and I believe he is probably competent at basic automotive repair because the alternator looks like it was installed well and there aren't any problems from that replacement, but I wouldn't trust Mr. Dixon for any advanced automotive repair, especially electrical troubleshooting / parasitic drains; go to a specialist or an auto-mechanic that is ASE certified in electrical repairs. read more
