Under the right management or ownership, this throw-back hardware store has potential. It's in a good location with sufficient parking but contents are lacking. Inventory was anemic, lighting was inadequate, and customer assistance was limited to finger pointing. Given its proximity to universities (TSU, UH, HCC, etc.), one would have expected that some business majors would have undertaken this location as an academic project -- like I said, it has potential. read more

Dixie Hardware over the years has had select items to pick up. They may not be large or huge lime some stores, but have served in quick picks. I bought my first little barbeque pit there about 2006 or '07 and just using it more the last 6 years. WELL recently water rained in the kitchen and my barbeque flicker lighter that lights the pit got soaking wet. I thought I had to throw it away. After letting it dry, amazingly so, it flickered back on. Yes! I was happy and do not have to buy another. The product from there was still working. NOW, I am ready for 4th of July or that week, when it happens. read more

There is no excuse for their behavior in our community. My contractor purchased several rolls of insulation on yesterday. His measurements were a little off. He wanted to return the excess. He had the receipt that is normally needed to return building materials, however he was approached and rejected by the 1st cashier as he entered the door, and then 2nd one before he could explained what he needed. They then summoned the gentleman that brought the roll of insulation to the register before getting a clear understanding that he purchased the insulation as it was, with a hole in the bag. Really. U can go to Home Depot or Lowes with less and get better customer service. No Thank U Dixie. read more

This is the worst hardware store I've ever been to. Their customer service is beyond reproachable. Their hardware section has no organization and have a limited supply of all materials. I would not recommend this store unless it's an absolute emergency and even then I still would not recommend you going here. Home Depot is only five minutes away you're better off just adding five minutes to your commute. We purchased a 8 foot 2 x 6 and they refused to cut the wood. On a scale of 1-10, this place is a ZERO. They treat their staff like straight garbage, which in turn has customer service pretty much non-existent. My dad managed this store for 30 years, and on multiple occasions the owners accused him of stealing money because they miscounted or misplaced money from the register at the end of the day. They even docked his pay, and when they found the money bag didn't even apologize. Ridiculous... Steer clear of this place like the plague. read more

Great mom and pop shop. I could not find my sizes AC filters at the national brand stores, but Dixie had them. Very courteous staff. A great store and embody's the friendly Houston attitude. Do not shop at this place!!!! ,If this is the last hardware store left in Houston, don't go. I purchased a door that was missing some piece and the handle and lock wasn't in working order. Actually the man I had to install it became locked inside my home because the cylinder wouldn't turn. I called the manager/owner (Mr. Dickson) and informed him of the situation and let him know the condition of the door and hardware and how it was received unboxed, his response was that I was LYING. Who tells a customer that they are lying???? I asked him to make it right, he refused so it's time to contact Emily Akin and Attorney General Ken Paxton. I won't lay down and roll over. read more

If you're in the area and don't need/want to drive far out to Home Depot or something then this place is great. They carry pretty much all general items you'll need for home projects. It's a huge store too. read more

Dixie hardware is in my neighborhood and they send out sales ads from time to time. I noticed that they had a much better price on hedge shears than Lowes or Home depot. So, I decided I would check them out and support local business. When you walk in it looks like a typical, small business hardware store. If you like wide aisles and organization, Dixie is probably not your hardware store. It's jam packed, and not always easy to find what you're looking for, but once you do find it you'll be pleased. Most of their merchandise is around the same price, or slightly less than the big stores. Especially their yard tools. That's all I've bought there but I noticed that everything else looks like it's good quality and priced reasonably. I'm heading in today to pick up a couple of things. read more

I have n0t had a personal in store experience with this store and this online experience is awful. The website is on the sales paper and in the yellow pages but when trying to go online it gives you a FORBIDDEN message "you cannot enter this site" what is the point of advertising w web link if you do not have access. I called the store and the employee that answered had no clue in which she connected me to the supervisor whom gave me infodixiehardware.com which also does not work. I am a researcher before I make a drive to shop and so it is disappointing that I can not enjoy this privilege because their prices are great! read more

I purchased over $1000.00 work of materials from Dixie one weekend. I wrote a check. Work was performed and I had a few pieces to return that were never used because we had purchased excess materials. First, when I went in for my refund, they processed (more on this antiquated process later) then told me that I could not get my money back until the checks cleared the bank. they put my refund money in two brown bags (two separate purchases) and told me to check with my bank and once the checks cleared to come back and let them know and they would give me my refund money. Well 3 days later I check with my bank and the checks had cleared. I went in to get my money and they flat accused me of lying. I told them that the checks had cleared the previous day and the Manager said I was lying because she had just personally deposited them that morning. It then turned into a screaming match. It got really ugly with me threatening to call the police. I finally called my bank for them to hear the banker say that the checks had cleared. They never apologized and when counting out my refund money, ti wasn't correct. Secondly, my Contractor and I were given wet towels and we had to stand in the store and wipe clean all items for return before they would accept them back. They were still in the box that the clerk put them in. They had to be cleaner than when I purchased them. Upon asking for my refund, if I had been asked to verify that the checks had cleared, I would have just called the bank and no drama. Customer service is severely lacking. I am remodeling my entire house and I am a real estate investor. There location is very convenient but they have loss my business. An apology goes a long way. read more

This store has plenty of what most home owners need BUT good customer service. The current manager is ignorant, disrespectful and does not listen and the owner does not seem to care. When calling him to cmplain, the call was "disconnected". There is a sign on the checkout desk that reads "no returns without receipts, DON'T ASK". Nothing wrong with that policy...but "don't ask"? This is the usual tone of rudeness that this manager treats customers with when I have visited the store. When you are a small business competing with the likes of Home Depot and Lowes, you should try and treat customers like you actually WANT them to patronize you. Snapping at and shoving product at customers is not good business. read more
