I put 2 twenty dollar bills on the counter. She just looked at me, I asked if she said $40 and she said yes $40. I didn't want to cause a fuss and was in a rush so I thought perhaps I ordered more than I thought, maybe she had me down for 2 sandwiches or more salads. But nope, when she gave it to me it was in fact 1 sandwich and 2 lbs. of salad. Not exactly sure how $8.99+$3.99+$3.99 equals $40 Even putting the sandwich as a 9" at $12.99...+$3.99+3.99 does not come close to an even $40 as she put it. Then on top of that I open the sandwich and there is about an inch thick of meat... Great you'd think? Nope, it was only an inch thick for about half an inch of the sandwich. The rest was one slice of pastrami with lettuce and cheese. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I could tell I was in the right place for an awesome sun when I was greeted and told that the Italian is a local favorite. The deli gives all the feels that you are about to have a mouth watering sub that will make any blue collar worker count down the minutes till lunch. My wife and I came in for lunch and the owner greeted us with "is this your first time here?" Thought we off to a good start. Not so much. She proceeded with curt responses both for me and my wife. She does not seem to have any customer service skills. I asked how good her steak and cheese was and she gave me an answer that didn't really answer my question. We moved on and got our lunch and based just on the food I will not be back. The owner must have been having a terrible day. Very rude. I have worked in a customer service environment for more than 30 years. She just has a lot to learn or maybe she will learn it the hard way and loose her business. read more

Food taste great but for the high price the portions are small. The recommended sandwich had literally couple slices of deli meat and they were thin as paper! I've been coming to Dixie Deli my entire life, and every single time the product is exactly the same - a delicious, satisfying, perfect sandwich. I have always ordered the Hot Sub w/ Potato Salad, and recommend that everyone going there to do the same. It's the best sandwich you can get in the area, and picking one up is always at the top of my to-do list whenever I'm back in town. read more

Nice people working in there but I was APPALLED when they rang us up and the total for two sandwiches was $26. The ham and cheese sandwich was two pieces of Pepperidge farm bread, Kraft American cheese and a few pieces of ham--insane price tag. While I recognize that isn't a fancy sandwich, I was expecting a little more than what we received. The chicken salad was decent but not $26 good. Stopped in while in town for my daughters swim meet at the nearby Y. Owner there by herself but she was still incredible. Took our order, made our food, was very personable, wouldn't let us tip. The subs were great! I asked her to make what she recommends and I had the hot sub. It did NOT disappoint! Nice and spicy but not overwhelmingly so. Great food, great atmosphere. Dixie Deli is an institution; it's been here in Kilmarnock as long as I can remember. In fact, Lees and Dixie Deli are the two places that I remember being around my entire life. I had the chicken salad, on lettuce, because I overindulged at Christmas, everyone else had ham subs, warm. I tried to convince them to get the hot sub, but they wouldn't. It's yummy! The chicken salad is a delicious traditional chicken salad. The side of potato salad with the sandwiches is good, it's got a mustard base. Service was friendly and welcoming. The interior of Dixie Deli is, well, a dive. The clowns on the wall are creepy but it adds to the weird charm. read more

Just don't, usually our once a week place the last year and always end up spending 50-70 dollars for the whole family. We started getting half the meat, then started getting orders with the wrong fries then condiments that I'm allergic to that i didn't ask for like my husband gets mushrooms I am allergic. I had to say something twice. Then last wensday my friend can only eat meat and cheese his sub came with the works on it including onions that he can't have. My husband calls and complains. then he leaves to go out to get something else for our friend when my daughter pulls out a hair from the chicken wing like it got cooked with her food. So I open my sub and it's full of mustard. my sons and my husband neither had the right frys the right Condiments we asked for so finally I got sick of spending money on food we didn't fucking order snd we were promised our order fixed. we get their they only want to replace one sub. RUDE OWNER! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! I called this establishment to inquire on if they offered gluten free bread and the owner on the phone informed me that they did not. I said thank you, and hung up. She called me back and said, " we either got disconnected or you rudely hung up on me because I didn't have gluten free bread!" In an angry, harassing tone. I responded that I had said thank you and hung up- then she hung up on me! So I went inside the deli, and asked the woman behind the counter if she was the woman I had spoken to on the phone and she said yes. I told her that it was unnecessary for her to call me back angry and accusatory and that she needs to work on her customer service if she wants new customers. She went on to yell at me that "I hung up on her!" and she told me to leave her establishment. My daughter and son-in-law say that the Hot Italian sub is the best they have ever had and between the two of them having lived in NYC, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Chicago I would say that is quite the compliment. The Dixie Deli has always operated under the disadvantage of water-stained ceiling tiles, VERY old carpet and floors, and a tendency for the old building to be unforgiving during heavy rains. I visited the Dixie Deli today and spoke with Grace about her plans for exciting new digs with new construction, a bright and airy floorplan, a newly re-designed kitchen with upgrades, new furniture, and a 35 car parking lot. Tried twice to call using number provided and no answer. Drove by NEW LOCATION and at a little before 2pm on Saturday there's a closed sign in the window. Entered and asked why. Was told that they close at 1:30. I told them of this web site stating open until 6pm and they said that "Google did it". I said that they need to fix it and answer their phone. The response spoke volumns when the woman just threw up her hands. No apologies or any suggestion of regret at the errors.
