One of my favorite spots to buy tea! The selections are endless and delicious. The owner is wonderful she all's you through each of the selections you are interested and makes wonderful recommendations. I love the back stories on how she decided to start the business and the process for creating each tea. She also has lovely items you can buy to gift- tea cups all types, tea pots, infusers, spoons, bags, napkins etc. You can also order online. Her Nite Cap tea is my favorite! This is a really nice tea shop in a small commercial area in Clifton Park. My wife (who is the real tea expert in the family) and I stopped in as part of a Yelp event but left with more than we bargained for! I don't claim to be a tea expert... it is more of a novel-tea for me... but I enjoyed coming here and talking with their knowledgeable staff. Their certainly have a passion for their tea! There are lots of teas in the store... at least several dozen blends behind the counter and more in other areas... and they will make whatever you want if you provide a recipe. I lean towards fruitier or spicier teas and found a couple that were interesting enough to purchase and bring home. Because more of their teas are served loose, it isn't as simple as dunking a pouch with a string in a mug of hot water. But fear not, they have lots of various tea brewing accessories along the walls of their small shop area as well as some other interesting curiosities. read more

Wow. Just wow! Linda the owner of this cute little tea spot was informative, bubbly and just so personable. She's a "tea genius!" She gave me samples of tea to help w my congestion and I must say I already went through the entire package of peppermint today alone. I hung out for quite some time just striking up conversations about our lives. She was so easy to talk too and I am shocked I've never knew about this place as it's been there for the past 5 years and she's been in years for over 25 years!!! You MUST stop by and pick some up. Linda, the shops owner, has been creating teas for decades. The ingredients so fresh that entering the shop is like a warm hug. High end tea shop with small batch and imported varietals and some expensive tea pots and paraphernalia. They have a lot of green tea, and china-style scented tea, but not a lot of variety for the more robust Indian-Ceylonese end of things (think: more Dareeling than Assam, more sweet than smoke.) The pots are high end and nice but not on the arty side, so if you're looking for a gift you may have limited options. Everything is a bit pricey, even for high-quality tea, which brings the rating down a tetch, but the quality has been good enough to keep us coming back -- if we're in a certain mood. (To confess, we get our bulk tea at an Indian grocery, where the quality is nearly as good and the price is about a quarter as much as we have paid here for the same quantities.) Note Tesoro's next door is featuring some of Divinitea's wares, so in the try-before-you-buy (by, um, buying a sample) there's a certain synchronicity going on. read more

I have been to Divinitea, Clifton Park location, on 3 occasions and none have felt welcoming. Each time I spend between $100-$200+, which clearly indicates I enjoy tea/tisanes. During my first visit, the owner bellowed "Show me the money! Show me the money!" numerous times while I shopped - apparently finding it humorous, but her loud unnecessary comments ruined what I had hoped to be peaceful browsing through the selections. When I arrived on my second visit, I casually mentioned that I had found my first visit unsettling. The owner stated "This is my stage" - and once again my visit was peppered with sarcastic remarks when I asked questions and I was frequently reminded of her "tea genius." Tea genius = maybe; professional etiquette - definitely not. Today was my third visit - mid-day - and there was a clerk in the store with the owner. The only other customer was just finishing her order and about to leave. I was asked what I wanted and I shared that I had a list, but also wanted to browse. The clerk asked for the list - the owner loudly exclaimed "What's on her list" and both proceeded to reprimand me that I should have called ahead of time to see if they had the teas I wanted. "Next time call ahead !" (multiple times as if I was deaf or not understanding) I stated that if the teas on my list were not available, I could easily find something else to my liking. The entire visit was filled with negative comments about the unavailability of teas I was looking for and talking between themselves that made me feel very unwelcome. After paying for my $170+ purchase - I calmly asked why every time I entered the store I was verbally harassed about my list or my questions and today, 'not calling ahead.' My eyes were met with shocked looks from the owner and clerk as they reflected on how harsh their words had been. The owner became apologetic and said she had just been yelled at by three angry customers. (which did not surprise me) I pointed out that I have never been rude - never angry - never demanding; but entering the shop has always felt unwelcoming and I felt verbally attacked. The two ladies just stared at me with an "Oh darn - did we ever screw up" look. Another apology was extended followed by an excuse. I chose to leave rather than once again listen to the ramblings of shopkeepers who do not attempt to assist customers, but instead continuously blare their unwritten rules of how to shop for tea at Divinitea and use the shop as a stage. I feel today will be my last visit to the shop - and I will sadly miss the tea. read more

My family and I just visited this amazing tea establishment. The owner Linda was very knowledgable and talkative. The store has all of the teas that anybody could want and Linda has the knowledge to tell you about any of them. Divinitea - so appropriately named! I have shopped at the chain tea shop that's in the mall, but since I highly prefer a small, independent business, I was thrilled to see Divinitea on Upper Union Street. Then I remembered I had bought tea from this lady years ago - at a farmer's market. Since that time, I've enjoyed her tea at Tesoro's next door (great breakfast and lunch cafe) and The Tailored Tea in Latham (another favorite spot). So, imagine going into Teavana, with that terrific wall covered with tins of tea. Only: * It's not a chain store owned by Starbucks. * The staff is not pushy, and trying to sell-sell-sell. They're just nice people who love tea. * It's all certified organic. * It's in a homey two-family on Upper Union Street in Schenectady, so it's got lovely woodwork, and an old cast iron stove. * The prices are better. * You can get some really unique, great teas - black, green, rooibis, herbals. * The offer a ton of different accessories, such as strainer baskets, tins, you-fill teabags - all at reasonable prices. That's Divinitea. I will be back. For all of the above reasons, and for favorite teas like peach rooibis, triple berry blast, pink lemonade, cranberry apple, etc. etc. etc. read more

Only my second visit. The prior was a couple of years ago. Clearly I am not drinking enough tea! I am not aware of a seller in the area that has been in the business as long or is as committed to the trade. The shop is well stocked and the proprietor is very knowledgeable. She still gets giddy with excitement when new teas come in. The aromas! Orders small amounts to assure freshness. Happy to share with you the varieties that have recently arrived. Do you like tea? I mean the real deal whole-leaf stuff? The kind of thing Americans don't have time for anymore since the advent of TV in the 50s? Do you hate shaving? Did you go to a liberl arts college? If the answer to any of these questions is "yes", they you'll like this place. - This is a storefront in the front part of the home of the guy who runs it. It's a cute little place, and all they sell are teas by the ounce (maybe some tea accessories, too, but mainly tea.) There are sample jars over by the front bay window for you to open and smell. The teas are kept in giant bins behind the register where the guy will measure and put into little brown bags for you. It's expensive, but it would need to be, I imagine. This guy is, essentially, running this out of his home. And you're getting these custom blended teas he makes in the back room. You can see it through the beaded curtain. It was a little weird being there, because you can see into their apartment behind the workroom, and his wife (presumably) came home, threw her keys down, and shot me a glance. It felt like I was in someone's home, which I was, and that was odd. But anyhow the tea was a hit so that's what counts. read more
