Definitely a fun place to browse though the clothes are very hit or miss - some very out of style items with the occasional damage or stain, but some good quality silk dresses, too. Not the classiest shop in town, but the inventory is amazing. And the prices are too. I've even shown up and found that the entire stock of clothes is on sale for $1. Give yourself some time to dig, and you're sure to find a deal. This is more a place to look for casual wear, not cocktail dresses. I have passed this place numerous times and decided to stop in yesterday and I'm glad I did. I got three pairs of shoes for $10. They were Guess, Cole Haan and Kenneth Cole Reaction, I hit the jackpot! They were in perfect, like new condition. I honestly love to thrift but it's going to take someone with patience and a lot of time to search through the clothes. I just couldn't do it! They have way to much on each rack (which is a good thing I suppose), no organization.. Great selection of furniture. There's a nice dining room table there and a nice king size bed frame. Diversity is not that diverse of a place. I love the thrift store, hate the lack of diversity. NOW THERE'S A BOOK DRAUGHT They use to get lots of good books in, but now it's sorta the same books every time I go there, no diversity in the book selection. I enjoy looking at all of their furniture and imaging what rooms I would put the stuff in if I had a mansion. They have some good cloths, but never a 32x32 pants size. Definitely a fan of this place. I hate that they're closed on Monday and Tuesday, but it happens. I've found quite a few good things here: books, a full length mirror, a cute picture frame, DVDs, etc. They always have plenty of nice furniture pieces as well. read more

This is a great place to go for used furniture! They have a huge, constantly revolving selection of furniture in a variety of price ranges. I recently bought a kitchen table for $19 (looks amazing!), a desk for $49 (in great shape & very cute), and a love seat for $75 (in spotlessly perfect condition, and a neutral color). Exactly what I expect from a Thrift store. Lots of variety and decent prices. This place is huge. Come prepared to look with no expectation to find anything and you'll leave happy. I agree with Caroline you need to come prepared to look and look and look if you expect to find a deal. If this was closer I would come often. LOVE THIS STORE! Great stuff for a great cause. I LOVE how each week an item is in the store, it gets marked down - I plan to go back for some furniture I saw this week soon :). They have furniture, clothes, household items, funky records, anything you can imagine. They will deliver furniture and even pick up your stuff if you want to donate (or you can take it there). I needed to buy a chair for my craft space and knew this place sold more furniture than anything. This was my second time going here. While there are several rooms filled to capacity my disappointment was that there was dust and spiderwebs on so many of the things in there. It felt dirty and I wished they cared for it more. I bought a chair for a quarter when it was listed for $20. It was a great deal and I can refurbish it. The store wasn't well lit. Luckily I went with my best friend because there wasn't anyone to help us bring the chair up front. Next time I'll be browsing elsewhere. read more

The best place to put your money into Richmond. I have donated thousands in goods and most likely will donate more over time. The staff is a ton of fun and they work for a great cause. Great place for recently used books at a good price. You have to know what you're looking for, though.

I enjoy going to any thrift store so they are all good. But this store was very cluttered and some merchandise seemed to be in very poor condition. I found nothing to buy which is rare for me. If I'm in the Richmond area again, I'll check it out. Maybe today was an off day. There is a poster in the store stating that it is a Richmond favorite. read more

This warehouse sized thrift store is a great place to find some furniture on the fly, at a reasonable price. I found a complete dining room set that with a little elbow grease, looks like it came off the show room floor. The staff was courteous and helpful, and they will even deliver if you don't have the means. Always a good adventure just trolling around their store. Clothing, furniture, and the occasional odd or end that catches the eye. Not to shabby for a building that is a rainbow. read more

This was my first visit to Diversity Thrift!! Wow! What a Tremendous shop to go to! My brother is wheelchair bound and loves to shop in interesting stores-this fit the bill! During our visit, my brother became really hot and needed a cold towel to cool down. One of the owners or salesmen quickly brought us two towels and wouldn't let us pay for them! He was extremely kind and thoughtful! This kind of treatment you will not find in other stores! We greatly appreciated his thoughtfulness! The store is wonderful! Features nice furniture in good condition, and more clothes than you can shake a stick at. The prices are decent and the staff is friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. I have been thrifting for my home for a few years now but have been leery about buying clothes from a thrift shop, mostly because I was just too lazy too sift through all the clothes. But my budget has gotten really tight and I figured why the hell not. So my best friend and I went here this past sat morning. She is a faithful thrifter herself. One of those girls that looks fabulous in any and everything and when you ask them where they got their clothes from they casually say "from the thrift store". But I digress....This place is huge! They literally have some of everything! I was on an apparel mission though so I decided clothes and shoes was all I was going to look for. Needless to say, I walked out with a trashbag FULL of clothes for $25! I got some really great things, a nice handbag for $3, contemporary and vintage tops, pants and even a vintage Dior blouse for $3!! can't beat that...I will be shopping here often so I too can respond "oh this, I got this at the thrift shop" read more

Richmond has plenty of impressive antique stores, but very few quality thrift shops. Diversity Thrift is the exception, with an inventory large enough to find your $1 diamond in the rough, a degree of organization that facilitates rather than hinders your quest for hidden treasure, and overall quality of items at ROCK BOTTOM prices that makes the hunt fun. I used to love Diversity Thrift. It was the first thrift store I found when I moved to Richmond and I relied on them heavily for small household items and kitchen wares. I believe it has changed hands since then because now it's a huge disappointment. It's dirty, overpriced, and the staff is not helpful or friendly like they used to be. Most things are broken or stained and the furniture is completely useless. I wish I could explain how much this store has changed. Skip this one!! read more

now me and my boyfriend went BACK to diversity thrift in sept and BOYOBOY did i STRIKE the MOTHERLODE as far as clothes i got a warm black winter sweater and a verrrry nice black top and they were so afordable i was absolutly FLORED at how little i payed for em , now my boyfriend on the other hand got some reallly obscure cd's (half of which i'd never heard of) BUT we're HEADING back there at christmas time maybe something might come up ad christmas pressents read more

We were up visiting Richmond doing some fun thrift store shopping. I was intrigued to stop here based on some reviews from others. First time at this thrift store. It was definitely a big thrift store but had more junky-junk than what I prefer. There was a huge furniture section for people that like to DIY items but I didn't think the prices reflected the poor quality of most items. My college aged daughter did found some interesting old books but that was about it. Probably won't try this thrift store again. read more

Volunteering here was so easy and non stressful. They were more than willing to work with my hours. Everyone who works there is amazing. Diversity Thrift is by far the most consistantly reliable thrift store in Richmond. It does do high volume and the stuff gets picked through pretty quickly, but with it's large selection and constant replenishment of items, there are almost always finds to be had. For those who seek second hand stores primarily as a means to find furniture deals, this place really does have a very quality selection of reasonably priced furniture and is always expanding with new pieces. It's also a great place to pick up random household odds and ends you don't want to pay full price for new....for example, anytime a hair dryer, iron, alarm clock, etc. dies in my house, I just run here and pick up a replacement for a dollar or two....why pay forty bucks for something like that when Diversity is overflowing with these kinds of things for pennies? As for my true love, the clothing, there are finds to be had here although it does take patience and the willingnesss to sort through a lot of blah inventory to uncover the hidden treasures. The prices overall on clothing are pretty kick ass, and with a color coated pricing systems, there are always items available at a reduced cost ranging from 20-75 percent of tag price. I have found many, many gems here for almost nothing. It's probably better suited to those who don't mind devoting an hour or two of thier lives to bargain hunting to walk away with one or two cheap and cool items. Another big big plus about Diversity is that unlike another long time Richmond thrift staple store (the for profit one), the staff at Diversity are uber friendly and always make you feel welcome, will go out of thier way to assist you, etc. read more
