When we freed up money for the larger scope to include the kitchen, were told suddenly that it was a mistake and would cost more. --Wrong roof was installed on the deck. Instead of being charged the difference in the cost of the materials, we were charged for the cost of the materials and install without the usual mark-up. --Wrong lights installed in bathroom. --Bedroom door opened in front of window. Design error, but we were still charged for a change to the bi-parting door. --Wrong color paint on front hall wall. Told it was close enough until I hacked out a piece of old wall and had it matched myself --No air return planned for --AC move not thought about by design team or engineers. More than 2000USD to move it to a place that would allow us to hear each other talk on the deck. Chose to have someone else do that. --Generator mis- installed. When I shared link with that installation information, was ignored. New board installed. Still problem. Generac guy came out, was indeed installation. --Water in crawl space and lake around generator and front of house --New floor needed the contract pulled out to ensure no corners were being cut. Was told we were getting prestained flooring put in when contract called for flooring stained on site. Was told the weight room and closet were not getting sanded and refinished when the permits called for that. Building and Project Managers acting like they were doing me a favor in following what was in the permits and contract. --Floor installed has cracks already --Bedroom fan made fluorescent humming noise when on, and although it was changed out, I was told that I was being "too sensitive" --Shower head designed and installed at an unreasonable height --Drywall was left outside under a leaky tarp in the rain and was only replaced at my insistence --Screens were put in backward so they could only be removed/changed/cleaned from someone on a ladder outside the house --Shower surround as designed would have made the shelving unusable --The security lights on the outside of the original house were supposed to be reused, but were instead thrown out. Getting new ones and having them installed to the same specifications was a weeks long problem --Floor needed redoing, not once but twice. I have been told repeatedly that a floor has 6 sandings in it, and we are now 3 in --Drainage and waterproofing for the addition was not properly planned for or executed --Entire project was supposed to be done mid-May even with the few days delay caused by changing the foundation to pass inspection. It is now the last week September. --Not one single inspection was passed the first time. I do not recommend. ** After I posted this review, I heard from Ken Combs, company owner who I had not heard from at all during the nine month period that we worked with them to address my "allegations". Spilman tried to blame the homeowner for the problem but clearly no reputable roofer knowingly installs shingles so as to cause water damage. Spilman assured us several times both verbally & by texts that he would repair the damaged areas. He delivered the necessary) material which we painted ourselves to save him time & expense. He never did the repair work. After waiting several months for Spilman, we hired another contractor to repair the damaged areas. We posted our complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Except for several insulting texts to us from Spilman, the complaint went unanswered. Eventually Spilman stated in several texts to us his intent to reimburse us for the cost of repairs if we would then inform BBB of the resolution. We agreed to his extended time frame for payment & sent him the bill, per his request. As the deadline approached, we reminded Spilman of his commitment & again he texted his intent to pay. That deadline has passed & we have not received payment. Once again, Spilman did not stand behind his word, work or warranty. It has been a long & unpleasant experience. We would not recommend Spilman, Inc.

This master suite renovation was our second project with them; the first was an award-winning kitchen remodel. And there will likely be additional projects as we have developed trusting relationships with the company owner as well as the crew. They provide detailed estimates and adjust whenever necessary. Work began on the exact day scheduled. There was a minor delay due to the pandemic - completely understandable. They communicate regularly so that we always knew who was coming, when they were coming, and what they were going to do. If there was a day or time inconvenient to us, it was rescheduled. They cleaned up the work area before leaving every day. Clearly, their goal was to ensure our satisfaction at all times. Any and all concerns were immediately addressed. This was a major renovation of the master bedroom, bathroom, and closet that included replacing the bedroom carpet with hardwood floors stained to match the rest of the house; installing wood ceilings in both the bedroom and bathroom; and a complete overhaul of the master bath. Our shower was in bad shape, our tub took up a lot of room and served no purpose as neither of us used it, and the entire bathroom was outdated. The bathroom remodel was designed for aging in place and includes several grab bars strategically located as well as a high-tech toilet with bidet and heated floor tiles. The tub was removed and the shower relocated to that area. Above the tub was a large picture window that was removed and restructured into a transom above the shower that allowed for both light and privacy. That, of course, required brickwork on the outside of the house. Now, we have a large, stunning shower with treated glass, a seat and two showerheads - one is a wand next to the seat. Moving the shower allowed for custom vanities with drawers that are extremely functional being specifically designed to hold hair styling tools and a makeup area for seating. We asked them to accommodate lighted glass sculptures and their cabinet maker designed a tower specifically for this purpose and the electrician set it up so the cords from the light bases were not showing. Once again, we worked with their gifted designer who guided us through all material selections. She offered options and truly helped with the decision process. When it comes to choosing tile, cabinet styles, hardware, and paint colors she has the ability to pull it all together in a way that generates stunning results. Her guidance was priceless! Fresh paint everywhere, new fan and TV mounted in the bedroom...all perfectly done. Wake Remodeling even has a "cleaner" who comes in when all the work is done to ensure everything is spotless! And when we dinged the walls moving the furniture back into the bedroom, the painter returned and touched it up. In the last 30 years, in prior homes, we have done many, many renovations and experienced both good and bad contractors. The Wake Remodeling team has now completed two renovations for us and both have exceeded our expectations. There will more than likely be future projects and they will be the team we call.

Additionally, they wrapped the porch columns. They painted the gutters, doors to the house, and garage doors. All 14 large wooden double hung windows in the house were replaced by no maintenance casement or sliding windows. Two quarter round windows were re-designed and replaced with trapezoid shaped windows to better follow the pitch of the roofline; a major improvement!! Please see before and after photo's below. They replaced old lighting with modern new fixtures. They painted the old green door red. The entire outside of the house is new. My neighbors are all commenting on the new look. Inside the house, Vinny used his knowledge and expertise to design and build the trim molding for the windows. A sleek, modern look evolved from the more traditional style. He mocked up many designs until we found one that achieved the desired effect. THE WORK PRODUCT: All materials were delivered on the same day. All arrived in perfect condition except for one window that was discovered broken after removing the packing. It was replaced right away. THE WORK PROCESS: The workers arrived promptly every morning and often left after 5 pm. They worked at a consistent pace and finished on time, despite a two day hurricane and many days of scorching heat and humidity. They were polite and responsive. All were devoted to quality craftsmanship. Vinny came every day to inspect the work. He took his time to answer all my questions and is very attuned to the customer concerns. He has a finely honed attention to detail. He is honest, does not try to sell a product of feature that is not needed.
