My instructor was Kyle Cline, and he was patient, clear, and highly skilled at making sure every member of the group felt at ease and was properly able to execute their learned skills. Nate, our dive master for the open water dive, was integral in having successful open water dives without worry, so we could focus on our buddies only and the tasks at hand. My 10 year old was attending a class with her Girl Scout troop. I had completed the forms ahead of time, which was required. Problem is, I accidentally answered "yes" to medications, forgetting that the medication was temporary, and no longer being used. I figured we would just explain to them my mistake. This was an incorrect assumption. They told my husband that despite it being accidental, she would need a physician to sign off that she could participate. They then told him he could just take her to urgent care, and have a doctor sign off that a *healthy child on no medications* would be able to participate. Three urgent care trips later, and we were told that is not something their physicians do. What it boiled down to was my husband was told that, just to get them to leave so they could start the class without our daughter. It was extremely disingenuous. My daughter left sad, and embarrassed. So no, I would not recommend. read more

Highly recommend Dive World to get certified. The shop is is super helpful if you need gear. After having a so-so experience with my older son at a different shop, we used Dive World for my younger son. He had Carl as his instructor and let me tell you, Carl is the most patient human being on the planet. He takes safety seriously so I would recommend him to anyone who is apprehensive. I felt completely safe having him take my 10 year old kid and they worked on the skills until they were satisfied that he knew how to do them all effectively. I couldn't think of a more welcoming and friendly place to share my love for scuba than Dive World Austin. Everyone at the shop is like a second family to me, and I love being on a first-name basis with the staff there. To date I've done both Open Water and Advanced Open Water, Nitrox, Underwater Pumpkin Carver, Underwater Photographer, and Dry Suit certifications with Dive World and am eagerly looking forward to gaining more experience and diving more with the friends I've made here. The people were nice enough but my tanks were under filled by about 500 psi. Took 2 new tanks in to have vis inspection and regular compressed air fill. Thought it was a bit overpriced as the average vis inspection is about 10 bucks and average tank fill for regular compressed air is about 8 dollars, nitrox is averaged at about 10. I paid 50 for 2 vis inspection and 2 tank fills with compressed air so I feel I paid more than average. Also not cool to under fill a tank. Its one thing to be 100 to 200 psi short if a tank gets cold but 500 psi just means I overpaid for under filled tanks. Lastly they put so much oil on the valve threads that I could see the oil coming out of my reg when I let it free flow in open air. I will stick to my local SSI shop in the future. read more

It was during the recent flooding episodes so we had to change the open water location last minute, Carl was totally accommodating and found an alternate dive location. He also went out of his way when some members of the course had scheduling conflicts. The store staff were also very knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the nuances of certain gear. Wonderful experience for my teenage son and daughter! The instructor, Mark, was patient and helpful with both kids throughout the entire process. From class time to pool time to testing and diving, he was great. My 13 and 15 year old kids were fortunate enough to get to do their certification dives at Aquarena Springs, which just opened to divers after 3 years' hiatus. I gave this business 5 stars because I couldn't think of anything negative about it. I was nervous about picking a shop to get my scuba cert from. Many different shops had different prices and not many reviews available online. When I went to Dive World, they were very friendly and showed me around the store. They have a pool in the shop where you do the basic scuba instruction before your open water dives. Our instructor was very knowledgeable and also kept us laughing during this learning process where you might be nervous! They weren't pushy with buying the most expensive equipment but helpful in making suggestions and answering questions. They gave us the option of where we wanted to do our open water dives. We chose Comal River and Lake Travis so that we could get a feel of diving at two different locations and bodies of water. I'd definitely recommend this place! Be prepared for early classes and bring snacks! It's awesome that you are able to knock out the classes in 2 weekends. read more

If you haven't been to Dive World recently you owe it to yourself to go. The new owner,Graysen. is always friendly and willing to help. If you haven't been to the store recently you really need to go. It's much more open and has a much more fun feel to it these days. He's also really working to make it the best dive shop in Austin. Which is why you'll often find tech divers hanging out and talking shop there; as well as people with only a handful of dives under their belt. The training there is top notch. The instructors are nice, courteous, and are able to really size up students as to make sure to give them the best experience possible. My favorite part is that their instructors actually teach people to have decent trim. This is something that is sadly lacking from many other training facilities. I trust them enough to send my best friend there for training. Outside of Florida cave country this is my favorite shop. read more

I was introduce to Dive World from a friend who got herself and her son certified at Dive World. I joined Dive World's first group dive trip and had a wonderful time and met lots of great people with whom I hope to keep the friendship. Lisa, one of the owners, was at the trip briefing and made sure to answer all the questions that travelers had before going on the trip, and was happy to listen to my feedback after we came back. Kudos to Christine, who is a dive master at Dive World but wasn't working for the trip but was on vacation with her family, lead fund dives for us, took care of our dive needs (She didn't have to) and even taught us how to dance.
