The FOB had the nerves to file for custody in Texas when I have lived in California this whole time (and my daughter!). It's a pretty crazy situation, but Matt handled it!!! The MOST important thing was making sure the SOB paid for my attorney's fees since I was having to pay for the firm and sadly JUST got laid off the same week the SOB served me papers -in California. It was a bit nerve wracking looking for an attorney to deal with it over the phone because I was limited on time and there are a cadrillion lawyers in Houston, but luckily, I went to high school with someone who was now a family lawyer at a high priced firm. I had asked her about Matt and she highly recommended him. She told me he was aggressive so I went ahead and bit the bullet and hired Matt. Matt won our case... AND got sanctions (i.e. lawyer's fees of almost $4k). Yippeeeeee! I realized that I like boutique law firms. You get better service and you're not shuffled around. p.s. This was not the experience i had had with other attorneys and it was a pleasant new feeling. In March 2023, a final accounting was filed. On September 28, 2023, a hearing was held regarding this estate, which I attended. Since the hearing and despite a final accounting having been filed prior to it, the case remains open and unresolved. I have made numerous attempts to gain information about the estate and the reason for the delay in resolution that have not been responded to. As of April, 2026, nearly a decade since it was opened, this case remains unsettled.
