I'm judging this place on a scale with several other gyms I attend, so trust me when I say that…read morethose three stars are actually a good thing. Pros: The place is pretty large and there are tons and tons of equipment. There is an indoor pool that can be used for lap swimming, water aerobics, and rehabilitation purposes. There are TVs. There is music. It's mainly elderly people so you dont have a bunch of lunks grunting and acting like they're some breed of human/bear/gorilla hybrid. The front desk always has someone there. They provide you with towels. Everyone there is nice, easy going, respectful, and nonjudgemental. The main bathrooms are nice and have two showers. (There is a men's and a women's so don't worry they aren't unisex) There are other restrooms scattered throughout the facility. It's quiet and in a nice area of town. They have several classes such as boot camp, restorative yoga, flow yoga, water aerobics, body shaping, circuit training, and 55+ aerobics. They have a room for curvy girls and people who don't feel comfortable in the free weights area. There is a room full of treadmills and another room full of ellipticals. They have popcorn. Score! There's tanning. There's a masseuse. There's a sauna. Cons: It closes on Sundays and has weird hours the rest of the week. The equipment is mostly old and worn but to be fair is still perfectly usable. It's a little pricey, but if you pay for several months in advance it's much more tolerable price wise. The music is usually Nickleback or Shinedown. There's a lot of religious propaganda scattered around that people leave posted for some reason. The tanning is $10 per use. The good classes are always so early in the morning when I'm busy getting my kid to school. The TVs are almost always on country music or cooking channels. I'm sorry, but I don't want to hear about some singer's depressing marriage or watch someone cook food while I'm starving and sweating to death trying to lose weight. The pool is always hot as balls. It's relaxing, but sometimes after hauling ass on a treadmill or elliptical for an hour you want to cool down. Anyways, I love this place, so don't let the three stars fool you. I just have exceptionally high standards. I blame Obama.

Although lovely to look at, do not try to actually work out here! It is called a family fitness…read morecenter but in actuality is a social gathering place for the local elderly. We were actually told to leave the pool because our working out and peddling (underwater) was bothering the people who were floating and standing while they visited with each other. They would not even give us our own corner of the pool to work in because the waves splashed the others hair and makeup even though they were standing on the other side of the pool. Dont think its safe to move on over to the workout equipment. That is used for sitting and visiting! I had heard warnings from others who had tried to join this facility and had run into the same problem. Should have listened!

My success story consists of an old version of me and a new me. My journey started two years ago…read morewhen I was dreaming of how a skinnier version of me would impress myself, friends and family. I envisioned that my clothes would fit better, friends and family relationships would be fixed, and going to the pool would be more positive. I did everything that I could think of: meal prepping, going to the gym, ordering off of the "skinny" menu, buying trendy workout clothes to motivate me more. At the time, I was embarrassed that I was in this situation, and so I wanted to work on my insecurity, on my own. One day, I became frustrated at my level of insecurity and even more so, acknowledge that perhaps my "friends" weren't friends if they contributed to my insecurity. I came across a boot camp and without much thinking (because I didn't want to think too much of it) signed up for three times a week of boot camp for 8 months with a trainer and her female only group of trainees. I went to my first day, expecting the worse - that my insecurities would flare up and that all I would want to do was to fibble through the workout and not come back. Perhaps it was the trainer? Perhaps it was a good day at work? Perhaps pigs flew over our Texas skies, but I plopped my cleaned, unused mat and water bottle in the middle of the class and danced as if no one was watching. Soon enough, I realized that those around me were going through the same experiences. Some were encouraging, inspiring, motivating and eager to help. There was never any discussion on how someone should. There was no "should" way to lose weight, no "should" way to diet and no "should" way to do the exercise. The point was to get active and have fun doing whatever you're doing. Although I don't' reside close enough to attend the boot camp today, it is two years later, and I am attending other boot camps and doing the same exercises I learned from my brief 8 months at Buda Texas Fit Chicks. The new version of me is healthier. Since losing some weight, my priorities has change to where I don't need to go back on my old visions of myself. I don't care what pool people are thinking (if they are even thinking of me at all). I don't follow a strict "should" of boiled grilled chicken and broccoli recipe. I do whatever I feel is right for me and have fun doing it which is what I've learned during this boot camp. Thumbs up!

I've stuck with Fit Chicks longer than any other plan because of the trainer, different workouts,…read moreand the group of girls! It's an awesome class that goes by so quickly. You are always guaranteed to get a good workout where you feel like you walk out a little stronger every time. Modifications are always available, which is great. I love it!!
