I don't think I go out of my way to visit the Grove, considering the distance and the difficulty of getting parking. Huge crowds, have to pay for parking, and even if you walk farther away, it's a risk to get towed and there's metered parking too that hit a 2 hour maximum, at least the last time I went there. Aside from accidentally wandering in here or being here for a specific event (seeing Yoshiki over a decade ago or the 20th anniversary Rilakkuma pop up, which was absolutely fisted with people), I've only wandered here on accident when hanging out with friends elsewhere. There's a good number of shops and eateries though, especially since it sort of shares the space/is right next to the Farmer's Market (great open area to go shop and to go dine). Large overlap of the same shops and eateries as the Americana, but there's things there that we don't have in Glendale. Lot of higher end businesses. Big fan of the La La Land Kind Cafe and what they do, their drinks, and their aesthetic. It's not a bad outdoors mall, considering how "fancy" it is, the fact that it's outside in the California sunshine, and the fountain with the Bellagio style musical water shows, but just know that the parking can get hideous.

As someone who has lived in Koreatown his whole life, this place is a pillar of Korean-American culture. If they have to do maintenance, they should avoid doing so during such busy hours. + Nicole's Coffee Shop was kind enough to validate my parking without me buying anything. I decided to support their business anyway. - The food court is very limited on hydrating, healthy drinks. I had barely walked around inside the Plaza for 15min when suddenly all the lights went out. Inside H-Mart was so dark. I ran outta there. Sunlight still shown through the windows, thankfully. Everyone was confused. I rushed back to my car in the parking garage and booked it outta there. Thankfully the gatekeeper's barricade arm was staying up (so my validated parking ticket didn't matter) so I could drive off quickly before the exit became a bottleneck. Turns out West LA had a blackout... the one time I ever visit LA! Shame, cuz I wanted to walk around Koreatown Plaza a little more before heading to the next checkpoint in my itinerary.

Parking - One of the dealbreakers in my opinion. Especially during peak hours, it can feel like a maze here, you'll find that it's very easily to get lost here. Worse part is that parking is NOT FREE. However, there's parking validation but only specific stores. They don't tell you or list what stores give validation but even then, it's not for the whole duration and only for a specific time frame. A bit frustrating to deal with overall. However, there's plenty of good sides of the mall. The shops here are great, there's most of the stores that you'll find when it comes to luxury, and higher end shops. Ranges from Apple, Lucid, Tesla, Dyson, lululemon, Therabody, etc. The vibe here is very modern, lights up very nicely since it's a outdoor mall. It's very pretty here during the holidays, my wife and I came during Christmas to see all the holiday lights, Christmas Carols, and artificial snow, which turned out to our favorites. It was such a romantic and chill vibe, very cool to see this yearly. They often has collaboration events here such as these events, so be on the lookout for that. Food here is decent, over the years, they've added plenty of popular spots like Chick Fila, Shake Shack, but the staples here are most certainly Din Tai Fung, HaiDiLao Hot pot, Ramen Nagi, and plenty of other notable spots. I would say, they're all worthy to check out, just haven't had time to check them all out yet. Directory online and in person is very informative as well for the restaurants. Drinks wise, there's bars around the mall, but inside the mall, my go to here is Chagee Tea and Wushiland, both solid boba spots, Chagee of course is more trendy at the moment though. Very popular regardless. There's also Blue Bottle Coffee which I find very underrated. I absolutely love their Cascara Fizz, very much a soda like drink, definitely worth checking out as well.

There is SO MUCH good at MaDang. Shopping, eats, the aforementioned coffee shop, bookshops...let me highlight a few favorites: ~ Heuk Hwa Dang - their ice cream and coffee is great, adorabley cute space! ~ H-Mart Supermarket - who doesn't love groceries?! lol ~ Beard Papa - cream puffs are nomz. ~ Daiso - I love deals and Daiso is full of them! ~Sul & Beans - Patbingsu deliciousness to amaze your out of town friends, lol. ~Somi Somi - Ah-Boong, a fish-shaped waffle cone filled with your choice of filling and topped with soft serve - similar to taiyaki and so good. Kpop Music Town K-Pop Store - self explainatory. Jung Kook army bias here. I been rocking with Kpop since Seotaiji and H.O.T. so I'll always be a fan. ~Aladdin Bookstore - friends always want to go here for Korean books while in town. ~Pelicana Chicken - KFC straight from Korea with great happy hour deals. ~CGV Cinema - movies in Korean! The fact that Korean shopping malls exist in KTown is truly dope af. I love MaDang, love bringing my out of town friends, and I'm truly a MaDang regular.

If you didn't know the backstory, you'd never know. Now the plaza is rather plain. At least the bridges with views of the Hollywood sign are still there. When it's Oscar season, the shops are covered up with huge curtains and the red tiled grand staircase acts as a red carpet. My most recent visit was for the Chinese New Year celebrations. They had performers, a fashion show, and booths where you could do different things, like write down a wish and tie it up on a tree or get a special good luck red envelope that normally contains money, but in this case they stuffed them with coupons for a few of the nearby shops. The mall itself is a typical mall with stores you'd see anywhere else in the U.S., it's not crazy expensive like Rodeo Drive. The main difference is that the Chinese Movie Theater holds movie premieres and the Dolby Theater holds the Oscar Awards, so same, but not the same. I greatly appreciate the underground parking garage since parking is always an issue in L.A. and there are enough levels that if one level is full, you can just drive down to the next ones. I've had issues with paying for parking, though, everything from one of the machines not accepting my card only to find out I was charged twice, to paying a ridiculous amount because the event I went to at Dolby Theater wouldn't validate. My advice is to buy something, anything at one of the shops or restaurants so you can get that purple validation ticket. That way you'll pay $3 instead of an hour's worth of work or more, and make sure to put that purple ticket in first and then the regular white one. And no matter how many times I've been here, the zigzag directions for both the parking garage and escalators are disorienting, like why? Why not make it straightforward? Is the confusion on purpose to make us slow down? I've lost count of how many times I've been here and I'm sure that for one reason or another I'll be back because even though some parts of it are frustrating, for the most part it's good because of the special events it holds and the sheer energy of it being a tourist destination.

That being said, ROW DTLA is a dreamscape when it comes to filming content and just catching city vibes in a safe space. Located near the Arts District this space of buildings used to be utilized for the textile industry. With multi floored buildings creating rows of foot traffic on the ground this space is perfect for events, pop ups, and get togethers. It's one of the reasons why Smorgasburg is held here on Sundays. It's why on any given weekend there may be an event being held, whether it be to celebrate AAPI month or the different creatives in the area. This space is filled with homegrown businesses and unique shops to visit. One of my favorite places is Hightide which is a Japanese stationary and supplies shop. The vibes are immaculate and walking in really feels like being in a store in Japan. Another popular space is Scent Bar for those who love perfume and are aromaphiles. With plenty of small curated artists being featured in this apothecary of aromas, Scent Bar is a nice stop whilst visiting the Row. If you're looking for interesting and discussion worthy furniture A+R is a must, located at one of the ends of the Row. For good coffee with artistic vibes you got to check out GGET (Go Get Em Tiger). Next to that if you're looking for stronger waters is Flask & Field with smaller batch and independent distilleries and crafters. All of this and the parking is free for the first 2 hours. In LA, that's unheard of! And it's a large parking structure with modern infrastructure. Blessed. With all this, hopefully ROW DTLA will continue to grow with more businesses and still retain its charm as time marches forward. Yes they look nice but it's giving hoity toity performative LA folks vibe and I can see why rent to live in LA is so high. Nothing really piqued my interest as a non normie, but I'm sure if you are one or like these kind of non franchise, off label places, for normie looking, better quality clothes, home goods, etc. this is for you.
