Our daughter has been attending Discovery Isle at this location for almost a year. We are incredibly lucky to get a spot for her here. All the teachers are amazing- from Ms Monica( infant class) to Ms Kali (toddlers), to administrator Melissa, everyone is professional, friendly and has shown nothing but love for the children in their care. In addition, at least once a month the school will have a pizza night, Lego night, breakfast with grandparents, story night, etc. Those events are great opportunity for the parents to meet our child's teachers as well as other parents . This is more than a school, this is a community! Finally, our daughter came home one day and started singing in Spanish ( nobody in our home speaks Spanish) This is just another example of the amazing work the school is doing with our daughter. read more

We have been so impressed with Discovery Isle as a preschool since starting with them at the beginning of the year. Our daughter has been very spirited since birth, and can be quite high maintenance at times. Her teachers (Miss Alo and Miss Kali) are loving, patient, kind, and are exceptional at giving parents updates and pictures of their kiddo throughout the day and week. The school itself have so many fun theme days and events that they put on. DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE!!! I attended Discovery Isle Preschool at this exact location when I was young, I am now 22 years old, but still remember how horrible and abusive the teacher was to all of the children. Whenever any child would even begin to cry, the teacher made all of us sit in a circle around the poor little embarrassed kid, and forced us all to sing a taunting song at them. We had to sing, "Keep on crying, keep on crying, yeah yeah yeah" on repeat until the poor thing stopped crying, which usually took a while. If we didn't participate in the mockery, we would get in trouble, and forced to be mocked as well. I don't remember her name, but this teacher was so threatening and hostile towards all of us, to the point where I was scared to say anything to my parents, so I just started asking my mom to help me not cry before going into class. After my parents found out, they were infuriated, as this behavior is traumatizing for a little toddler who doesn't know any better. And when all of this was reported to the school, no action was taken against the teacher, and the only thing they did was switch me to a different class. At this Discovery Isle, the management, safety protocols, and initiative to make sure your child is physically and mentally safe, are absolutely their last priority. If you decide this school would be the best fit for you, and your child/children, I would highly recommend that you pay close attention for signs of abuse when arriving and returning from school. read more

We're giving this place two stars solely because of the efforts of the teachers and office staff, who genuinely try their best. The main problems stem from the leadership, which ultimately impacts the teachers. The woman in charge at this location rarely follows through unless an issue affects multiple children. If your child doesn't have any problems, your experience here will probably be fine. However, if issues start to come up, even if you, as parents, do everything you can to support your child and the school, there's only so much a private corporate daycare is willing to do. read more

Our daughter has been enrolled here for a little over a year now and has moved to three different classrooms (due to age change) and we have had nothing but the most wonderful experience. Transitions have been smooth each time. Everyone makes us feel like family and takes great care of us. The principal and front desk staff are so friendly and helpful. Our daughters toddler teacher, Ms Monica is absolutely incredible. She goes absolutely above and beyond for the kids, and I'm constantly blown away by the activities she has prepared for them each day. I love this school so much! Both my daughter & son go here. This was the last year they included Kindergarten, so it's been a bittersweet year. I feel lucky my daughter got to be the last class! She really blossomed into a confident big girl, always excited to tell me about how her day went. My son is a Pandemmy baby, didn't like to talk or socialize much. However, after a few months, he also blossomed a lot. He's very particular, but the teachers do a great job working with him. His communication skills have improved dramatically & I know it's because of their awesome program. It's located in a great neighborhood, everyone at the school is so nice & welcoming. The classrooms are clean & well kept. Plenty of outdoor space to play & learn. I absolutely love all the teachers & the staff. There are so many schools as options, but I'm happy I went with this place. 10/10 I would recommend! read more

My son has been attending Discovery Isle preschool for a little less than a year now. His teachers are Ms. Celina & Ms.Marissa. They were really nice to us when he transitioned into the school and gave him a lot of encouragement and attention to settle in. My son has an absolutely wonderful time there everyday and looks forward to going to school on almost all days. He cannot stop talking about his teachers and telling us about the fun that he has at school. I love looking at the pictures and notes at the end of each day. His teachers, specially Ms.Celina is very knowledgeable and ensures to spend time answering all of my questions. Discovery Isle as of August 13 still have not refunded a single penny. We asked for refund of the remaining days of the month. They said they will only pay 50% of the last week which is absolutely not far. This doesn't even count the extra money I paid for meals. Disappointed to say the least that they offered to pay the 50 % but also went back on their word of paying back what they said they would. I also hear this company received PPP money. They should be ashamed taking tax payers money and not refunding the families money that didn't receive services rendered. read more

I've really debated about writing this review for awhile now but think it is only fair to make potential parents aware of how horrible this location is. If you read the other concerned reviews, they are very accurate on the condition of this place. My son was in the infant room and it was concerning that they couldn't retain any staff. The turnover was high and as a mother, I wanted my son to have stability. Babies were forgetting to get fed and naps were non existent. This is all due to the poor management. The new principal is for lack of a better phrase passive aggressive and extremely hands off. It's sad to see such tenured employees leaving bc of her poor management. I tried addressing my concerns with her and she was defensive and would brush everything under the rug. She is far from a leader and shouldn't be running this school. She is running the place to the ground and I know multiple families that have pulled their children out to transfer them to other locations. We LOVE the other location down the road and it has been a breathe of fresh air. From one mama to another.... STAY AWAY from this horrible place. read more

Let me first start my review with this... we have been at this school for going on 6 years between my 2 kids... up through last August I would gush about how awesome this school was to anyone I met. Highly recommended it! The education was awesome. Environment extremely safe. My daughter was leaps and bounds ahead on her knowledge base for her age and social skills bc of this school. Biggest take away, she was happy and so were we. The staff made you feel like you and your child were the most important outcome of their day. We were in love. Kids art work decorated the halls, the staff was super friendly- it felt like an extension of family. Recently, that has changed. The education is still top notch. The care is still gold standard. But all of a sudden the colorful hallways of students work and posters of the children have come down replaced with stark white walls and policy papers pinned up. The friendly welcoming feel is gone. More than half of the teachers and staff we grew to love are all gone. And disappear from one day to the next with no explanation. The mood of those that are left is guarded. I don't know what happened, but I loved the way it was and I tolerate the way it is now bc the care and education is still good, but the family friendly feel is far from what it used to be. This is a preschool where you want a loving comfortable feel not a sterile prep school. I am not the only one that feels this way by far, in fact most all parents who have kids there feel this way. We want answers on what happened. Before I would have recommended this place to anyone I knew. Now, it works but I am saddened and frustrated by the change. read more

Discovery Isle is fantastic! Our experience has been simply amazing so far. Both my daughters felt in love with the school and their teachers since day one. After a whole year staying at home due to the pandemic, my husband and I were a bit anxious about enrolling the girls back in preschool but Miss Melinda and her staff made this transition really easy on us. My girls love the school so much that over the weekend they ask if they are gonna see Miss Sadie and Miss Celina - their lovely teachers. They have learned and have had so much fun this past couple of months at Discovery Isle. We can't thank them enough for making our daughters feel home and safe at school. You know when you children is happy when they pretend to be their teachers at home and ask to go to school over the weekend (haha) - can't buy that anywhere. The teachers are amazing and the rest of the staff is also great! Everyone takes the time to remember parents and actually care for our kids. I've never felt like my kids were just one of many. I actually feel like all staff members truly care about the well-being of my kids. I've recommended the school to so many people and it's worth every penny for the care and attention that we've received in return. The facility is clean and very secure. I love that I've never had to worry about my kids while they're in your care. They have different events that keeps the kids engaged and the parents involved. I am completely blown away with our experience at Discovery Isle! As a speech language pathologist, I've been in a lot of classrooms. I have developed the ability to spot the mediocre classrooms from the exceptional. Plus, in general, I am a pretty big critic, but this group of professionals just do what they do so well, that I'm impressed. My child's teachers Miss Sierra and Miss Sally are really special teachers. The dynamic pair create an environment with plenty of play and interaction but also a program that is academically rigorous. Plus, bonus: they paint! In most preschools, kids don't get to paint at least once a week in preschool anymore. It's not just fun. It's extremely important. All the art work that comes home was done by my child and not his teacher. It's fun, but it's also important sensory and fine motor. The projects he comes home with are delightful. Every time I go into the classroom at any time of day I "catch" the children doing something meaningful. All the children are engaging with materials in enriching ways but also interacting with their peers in meaningful interactions. This is the fourth preschool I've tried with my children and my only regret is that I didn't put my child(ren) in sooner, instead giving in to family pressure to go with a school of our religion even though Discovery Isle had been on my radar for four years since we moved to Scripps Ranch and so many people had wonderful things to say about this Discovery Isle. Also of note, is the amount of communication coming home. We get pictures and emails daily. It's really great to have that. The front office staff go above and beyond. It's a really special program and we are so grateful that our child gets to attend! read more

Our daughter has been attending DI for a little over a year. Since moving up to the toddler room, we have seen so much growth! At 19 months old, she was able to name all of her colors, shapes, numbers 1-10, and sing the ABCs. She smiles when we talk about Ms. Monika and Ms. Elsa and gets excited when it's time to go to school. This school is FANTASTIC! When you arrive in the morning the office staff is warm and welcoming. Ms. Sonia will greet you AND your child by name. The school is run very well, from managing my daughter's medications to offering a lending library it seems they have thought of everything. My 9 month old has been going to DI for 4 months now. I'm really sad I will be having to pull her out on account of getting a new job, closer to home. This preschool is about 5 min drive from work so me and my coworker/friend are those crazy moms who randomly stop by and spend extra time there. We love it. The teachers are kind, the app is very helpful, and it feels like a safe and clean environment. The kids learn something new every day and I like getting pictures of my baby everyday. Compared to the other places I have checked out, Discovery Isle is a solid 9/10. My baby is very happy and well taken care of. There have been a couple issues but they were due to staffing issues not so much the care of the babies. I would def recommend checking out this daycare. read more

My wife and I had a tour today at this school, and we were both so upset afterwards that I felt compelled to write this review, so others know what they are dealing with. This review concerns infant and toddler care at this school. The front desk people are nice and know their stuff. Some teachers however seemed bored with their job. We were accompanied to infants and toddler room, took off our shoes (which we thought is nice and thoughtful of them), and were greeted by the lead teacher. There was at the time three teachers in the whole classroom. One was preparing poster reports I guess to show parents and was busy with her own work, even though there a clearly incapable teacher struggling with an 8 month. One of the two others was working with toddlers, and one was forcing an 8 month old to sleep. I will tell more about this 8 month old more later, and this is really what really upset my wife and I. Infant's handling: ------------------- There was an 8 month baby who didn't want to sleep and was crying. They had put her in the corner of the room in the blind spot of the live camera, and one teacher was holding her down and patting her ambivalently while she kept weeping, forcing her to sleep. It seemed they force the baby in camera's blind spot, and then move them in front of the camera for the parents viewing pleasure! The only reaction from the lead teacher in the room while this incapable teacher was fighting this baby was that this baby really struggles to go sleep!!!! That was it! The teacher handling this baby would not change anything in what she was doing, until another teacher was called in as they realized we were pretty concerned and they are losing their customer! The other teacher let the baby off and the baby looked around for a bit and calmed down! That's all was needed. They had put all the babies to sleep and reduced their attending staff in the room, maybe taking breaks. I asked about the schedules, and although they said they maintain babies' home schedule, it became apparent that they put the babies to sleep in the morning, about 12:30 they feed them, and then put them to sleep again. Good luck if your baby doesn't sleep much in the day; The put the babies in the blind spot of the camera and patted like a carpet until he/she's exhausted! We asked a couple of other questions. I asked if they hold kids, and to our astonishment, the lead teacher said they don't hold the babies, fearing that others may also then want to be held. What's the point of a 4:1 teacher/infant ratio then? (BTW, we did not see a 4:1 ratio for toddlers/infants/or kids while we were there). I asked how they feed babies that require feeding on demand. The lead teacher was first baffled by my question. She said if mom says feed the baby whenever she cries!!!, we do. I asked but what about other signs that the baby is hungry? She was clueless again. The only other sign of being hungry in an infant she could think of was if they try to feed off her (her exact wording. I guess she hasn't heard the word "rooting"). Good luck if your baby has an on-demand feeding cycle in some parts of the day, like ours who is hungry almost non-stop during later afternoon time some days. Overall, the real deal breaker for us hiding the 8 month old in the blind spot of the camera, and forcing her to go to sleep. They force the babies to sleep to take their break, and then put the baby in front of the camera for the poor mom and dad to feel happy. That's simply not good child care! Kids activity: ------------------ One teacher was reading a book for maybe about 10 toddlers (forget about 4:1 ratio they advertise!). About four kids at the front row were paying some attention, but the teacher was mostly just not paying attention to kids, just going over the book to finish. A few kids were wandering around on their own. Kids were calm and quite, but definitely, the setup was crowded and the teacher could not pay attention or communicate with the kids, although she didn't seem to try to or to be bothered with this. read more

I really regret sending my child to this daycare. He would always come home with bite marks or scratches which tells me he wasn't being watched closely enough. I know toddlers get hurt all the time but most of the time the teachers couldn't tell me what happened. Also, they have a fence with enforced with loosely hanging chicken wire; I've seen kids play around and go up to that area, my son got 3 train track like scratches by his eye from this (totally unsafe) the director never even fixed this. Now my child attends a different school and is doing so well and never comes home with bite marks or scratches. And he doesn't cry there! Trust your instincts and take your kids cues. If they're crying everyday at drop off its a sign they're not happy for legit reasons. read more

My wife and I switched our two youngest children over from a different DAY CARE CENTER to this SCHOOL....about 2 years ago. Our son just graduated kindergarten last week and our daughter is still attending. In my mind, there is a significant difference between Discovery Isle in Poway and all the other per-schools that we have experienced....going all the way back to when our oldest child was that age. The difference is that Discovery Isle is run like an actual school. The admin staff is professional, the teachers are experienced, and the school is in top shape all the time. They communicate, care, and actually TEACH. The fact that they have an actual accredited kindergarten class/program is amazing and forces them to be on top of their game. Other pre-schools can get by and not really teach for results, whereas the kindergarten teachers at Discovery Isle are held to a higher standard....and that has a direct impact on the students. My kids aren't angels. In fact, there were times when I know my son was rather difficult for his kindergarten teacher. But I always felt like he was treated with patience and firm fairness. His teacher, Ms. Janet, was amazing. And I have heard the same of the other kindergarten teachers as well. Bottom line....you may have to shell out a few extra clams to send your kid(s) to Discovery Isle, but the alternative is to take the risk of leaving them in the hands of a glorified babysitter. In my opinion, this isn't the spot where you gamble. Discovery Isle is worth every penny and I highly recommend them. read more

My son has been here for 2 years, and there's no hesitation with sending our new child when he arrives. Everyone is wonderful, and even the infant day care programs are run like a preschool. Price-wise, it's no different than any of the other center options in the area (Kindercare, Lapetite) but they're so much more instructional, and generally try to be part of the child's family. Most of the other places don't even have someone at the front desk when you walk in, and stick the babies in a swing and leave them. The DI staff is always on the floor playing with the kids, and they even have a no-swings policy, to ensure that they can't leave the kids alone for any length of time. I can't say enough positive things about this school... I would never want to send my kids anywhere else. read more

They have been very instrumental in his development, he has learned numerous signs and knows quite a few words. His teachers have been very helpful in providing tips and recommendations. My husband and I had our child at a Montessori school for a couple months and he cried every day at drop off. We also had problems with the staffing. We decided to try Discovery Isle after visiting a few times and going in for the trial hour/hours. We have a developmentally delayed child when he started going to the classes he barely spoke and wouldn't eat any thing other than yogurt. After 6 months of classes ,he never cried at drop off, his vocabulary had quadrupled and is making 4-5 word sentences, he is eating foods I never thought he would eat, and he is using the restroom. (At home and the other school he refused to sit on the toilet)He talks about how his teacher taught him things when he recognizes them. I am not only recommending but encouraging EVERYONE to sign their child up for this school. Also, the administration is extremely understanding, considerate, flexible, and very nice. We have had nothing short of a wonderful experience with the teachers and staff at Discovery Isle. Melinda, Jenn and Melissa at the front desk welcome us with a smile and a cheery "Good morning!" and our daughter's teachers are always communicating with us, in person and through emails and the Discovery Isle app. The school projects are fun and educationa--lots of painting, creating, drawing. We have a lot of artwork hanging on our walls at home. Our three-year-old not only knows about Ansel Adams and his photography but also knows how to count in Spanish thanks to Miss Dani, Miss Heather and Miss Chardonnay. There are observances-- like Grinch Day and Crazy Hair Day--that make an already-fun day at school that much more exciting. The holiday program last week was delightful, adorable and so much fun, partly because of the fluffy "snowball" fight we had with our toddlers. We are grateful to everyone at Discovery Isle for their commitment to our kids and for being such a great first school experience for our daughter. read more

My little girl absolutely loves going here! I don't even feel guilty for having to leave her, she'll take off running and not even look back. The teachers are awesome! Ms. Silvia and ms.
