I went to Discovery all of high school. I loved high school, not because of this school. I wouldn't send my kid here at all. First and foremost, bullying is completely tolerated and handled as a joke. Teachers will literally HEAR people making fun of others, and don't send anyone to the office or hold them accountable. There was a "DP confessions page" made on instagram, where people would post rude comments and everything about one another. I found out someone had called me a slut and made fun of my dad passing away, and I confronted her (mind you, we only TALKED, never fought.) and I got blamed for it. Teachers play major favorites. Coaches especially. Coach Willy is the worst coach I have EVER had. He is nice to you for your freshman year, and then completely flips on you. He favors who he wants, no matter if they're good at whatever sport he coaches, and disregards the rest. The principal and everyone favors whoever they like. This one girl in particular, who I won't name, is favored by damn near every staff member even though she's always out of class ditching, hiding in the lockeroom for an entire class period, being out of dress code, etc. All because she was favored by the principal. Teachers act like they're still in high school and gossip with their students. The only reason this school even gets ONE star is because of the few teachers that actually care about teaching their students. Mr. Hagler, Mr. Flores, Ms. Han, Ms. Newby, Ms. Hemen, Mr. Curry, and Ms. B are the only teachers that don't play favorites (atleast that I've seen), and do their best to make sure students understand their work. Ms. Bagoyan didn't teach at all. She never truly grades anyone's assignments. She never helped us with work if we needed it. Her room is foul and smells like mold. She has a fish tank from my friend's experiment from 2 years ago that she has NOT cleaned and still has mold in it. I'm majoring in biological sciences at UCLA, no thanks to her. I had to study biology and chemistry at home because she never taught any of us anything. As for the office staff, Ms. A is a really good counselor and can work with almost any student. She is a really good person and anyone could tell. Student council is a major shit show now, it used to be structured, on schedule, and efficient when Mr. Hagler and Ms. Miller ran it, but now it's just complete unorganized because Dr. Smith , the old principal, couldn't handle students advocating for themselves, and she handed it off to Ms. Marquita, who is nice, but isn't organized. I have a lot of good memories at this school, but I wouldn't recommend sending your child here. Sincerely, someone who spent 4 years in this shit show. read more

graduated from Discovery Prep not too long ago, and honestly, it's sad hearing from my friends who are still there about how bad things have gotten. The staff play major favorites. if you're not one of the popular or "preppy" kids, you're basically ignored. They don't take action when serious stuff happens either. My friends told me about students smacking girls on the butt or even doing things in the Den, and nothing was done about it. They also completely ruined student council after taking it from Mr. Hagler and Mr. Miller, who actually knew what they were doing and cared about the students. Bullying and making fun of people still gets overlooked, and it feels like no one in charge really cares anymore. Dr. Smith, the principal, doesn't do much and just has Tony Sanchez handle everything. She even made comments about students needing to "speak English because it's America," which is honestly just racist and disappointing. Ms. Romero acts like she's still in high school herself and clearly favors the basketball boys and popular girls , it's weird and unprofessional. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is because some teachers there genuinely care, like Mr. Hagler, Ms. Newby, Ms. Han, and Mr. Flores. They're amazing and deserve better leadership. But the only chemistry teacher, Ms. Bagoyan, apparently doesn't teach much, lets her class get gross, and literally uses ChatGPT for assignments. If you're thinking about sending your kid here, I'd say don't, unless they're already popular. The school's leadership has gone downhill fast. read more

Wouldn't recommend at all, don't listen to high reviews its a lie from people who were told to do it on purpose, issues aren't being resolved and properly being handled, theres definitely many things that could be fixed and improved but its been proven clearly over courses of years that its not in their priorities at all to care for their students well and the environment too, especially the principal doing a HORRIBLE job and may they stop working there ever again, seriously.. please take this as a warning and don't send your children here im trying to help dodge bullets... read more

Students are not challenged at this school at all. I have two family members at this school and was thinking of enrolling my son here. I have seen the work given to 11th Grade students and it looks like work for 8th Grade kids. It's so difficult finding a good school now because schools like this barely give work and the work they do give is made so easy to boost student grades. So while it looks good for the school to have so many "high achieving" students and it gives the kids a boost in confidence, the grades are inflated and it does NOT adequately prepare them for college level work because students are practically given gold stars just for participating. This school barely has any AP classes or extra-curricular activities as well so while they pride themselves in preparing kids for college, what are they preparing the kids for if the lack of AP classes, activities, and student organizations aren't available to give students a boost so that they can have an advantage when applying to universities? The kids might meet GPA requirements but that's it. They're going to go to college or university thinking they'll be able to handle the work but they won't because they aren't actually being prepared. The only positive is that it's a small school with small classroom sizes but that's all. It's practically day care. read more
