Since I live in the neighborhood I asked her questions about her new store- I didn't know she had any ties to the former art store in the same shopping complex, so I got to hear how awful this other owner was, how she wanted to overcharge her for everything, etc. I came in again last week to grab a sketch pad and it was the same story- I could hardly believe it. All this effort and breath wasted to put down a business that doesn't even exist anymore. I was so off-put by it, that I didn't even buy the sketchpad. As a business owner in Frederick myself, I think it's pretty easy to assume that we should all play by rule #1: do not speak ill of others when representing your business. Period. I don't know the history between the two women, but that doesn't matter to me- it's just bad business to speak poorly of others. She could have taken the opportunity to explain how she was going to do things differently, what she will carry and her hopes for the store, etc etc- instead she decided to take the low road and insult a company that is out of business and of no threat to her store. We were a group of 14 and even though their spaces only held 12, they still managed to accommodate us. I thought this would just be stenciling, but as it turns out there's a lot more to it. I think I heard a couple of times, "crafting is hard!" from my teammates. We walked in and were greeted by Jen. The wood they use has such a neat story and my particular "canvas" came from Baltimore and they even had the street it came from. We went upstairs and Whitney took over helping us. We were allowed to bring our own beer/wine and Whitney even found us an Alexa to play music while we did our crafting. Your paint color choices are painted on a wall so you can see how they dry, which was very helpful. Ooo, they even found our company logo and drew it on a sign to welcome us! The whole experience was worth it. We laughed, we got frustrated, and we made some pretty cool art to be proud of. I would definitely recommend reclaimed to anyone looking for some fun team building.
