Hooray for healthcare!…read more My wonderful doctors surgery here is a good one, and they've kept me hearty and healthy since the day I came into this world! The staff here have literally been here since I was born and though I no longer get given a lolly every time I come, I'm still treated wonderfully here, as is everyone. The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars from me is because there is one doctor who works here, who I obviously won't name, who is incredibly subpar in his practice and I always feel really uncomfortable every time I have to see him because he's just simply not a good doctor in my opinion, I prefer getting someone else who works there. Apart from that though, the staff are always incredible and treat you with care and make you feel better!

The woman behind the desk unfortunately didn't know what she was doing and didn't know how to register me. On top of that, her children (I assume) were running around in the back office. When I went back on my next available day to try register I was simply told by a gruff unpleasant (differen) woman behind the reception that they won't register me because I am already with a GP in Hamilton. No offer of an explaination why or when this might change, but a look that basically said 'leave now'. So I did, and won't bother coming back to try again.

The surgery isn't in the better part of the town and obviously has to deal with some difficult clients, but that's their job, they are paid to do that.

There are 4 GP partners at the practice including nurses. I believe because of Government changes the nurses will not be based at the surgery anymore and will be elsewhere in Hamilton. I did have my flu jag last month and it was still within the surgery, I will need to keep checking to find out. I've been here that often that even before I get to the counter the receptionist gives me a nod. They know me, too well me thinks. Eep! Och to be honest it is nice, they are friendly and it shows they know their clients. Ive always managed to get what I've needed from the doctors and been cured by their good advice and prescribed medication, the majority of the time. There is a couple of unusual things about this surgery. 1. They do have music playing in the waiting area but it plays through a phone on the wall. This also doubles up for the doctor to call you. The music is usually catered for the older generation and it's so muffled sounding, well it is playing through the speaker phone. 2. My doctor has a dog who lies underneath his desk. He has a reason and there's signs up saying why the dog is there, I can't remember why but it's all above board. It is quite nice when you see its wee nose poking under the desk giving your feet a wee sniff. Another couple of things to note is that you can only book an appointment on the day, so call at 8am to make sure you get one as they go quick. They changed it to this system to reduce the amount of missed appointments. Also the only open for a half day on Wednesdays as the afternoons as I believe it's the baby clinc. Apart from these unusual things it's a pretty good doctors.

She has been visiting Margaret Roy for a number of years, and took me along one day when I had been long suffering period pains. I didn't believe that this would work, and looked at her a little oddly as she popped a pill on my tongue and told me to let it dissolve. My mum handed over £30 or so quid which I thought was unreal for one teeny pill, and we left. I have to be honest here, and say that I didn't have nearly half as bad a time with my period pain that month as I usually did, which was a huge relief, and I was amazed! It actually seemed to help for a few months and from then on, I was converted to herbal. I am not saying this would work for everyone, and I know that it's expensive so there is no way I could have made a regular visit to Roy, but I would say don't knock it till you've tried it. I certainly would consider herbal remedies if I was at the end of my tether again.

Getting a routine appointment takes up to ten days unless there is a cancellation, emergency appointments tend to be dealt with on a triage system by the nurse. Waiting area is comfortable and fairly clean with lots of information about the NHS available in leaflets and on posters on the walls. Staff are very efficient and knowledgeable in what they do. I don't have to wait much past my appointment time when I'm waiting to see the doctor, in fact at times I am taken just before it depending on whether the previous patient has turned up.

I received someone else's prescription by the postal system and when tried to get my own was told to come to surgery in person. Not forgetting to dispose of other persons prescription! Stacey Muir who heads the meeting up is full of life and ideas on how best to lose weight. Unlike many others she also gets weighed in front of the whole meeting so all her members can see her own journey to maintain her own weight. Customer service is great with helpers who are personable and friendly and also take part in their own Weightwatchers journey. From being totally unsure whether I could lose weight, Stacey's help and support along with that of her helpers has made me much more confident in my own weightloss struggle. Even better is that I can eat normal food and the plan fits in with my lifestyle very well.
