I recently had a blowout while driving from the 1604 to the Bitters Rd exit. A pothole did a number on my car. It was towed to Discount Tire near my house. I ended up having to buy two tires for my SUV, which were fairly priced before all of the extra add-on charges. I drove home and thought nothing of it. When I got home, I noticed that my low tire pressure lights were on for both of the tires I had just had replaced. So I went right back and got into there outside quick service lane to have my tires looked at. Here's a weird thing: when you buy new tires, the tread level is generally between 10 and 11 mm for large SUV tires. Sometimes they're even deeper than that. I was quoted that my tire tread levels were at a 7mm and an 8mm, though I didn't see that until the next day. I thought, "Wtf!." So I drove back to Discount Tire and asked them to check my tread levels because it didn't make sense what they were telling me the previous day. Sure enough both tires came back with a tire tread level of 8mm and 8mm. I questioned that immediately thinking I had been sold used tires. Another couple of guys came out and they were all having a conversation around my car which I was not able to hear and then one of the guys approached me and told me that tire tread levels from some manufacturers have lowered for whatever reason. I tried looking that up, and I couldn't find anything about that even when I was looking at my specific tires. That's a big huge thing to say I noticed that they were using a laser gun to check the tires so I asked them to do a mechanical check. He said he wasn't sure they had a mechanical device to check, but he would go and look. Several minutes later, he came back with a mechanical unit and checked the tread levels and slowly approach my window to tell me that now they've checked in at 6 mm each, which blew me away! I was told not to worry about the actual tread level, but the fact that the tires are new as can be seen by looking at them. Then I was told that the day and a half I had had the tires might have been a left time depending upon how much I've driven you have lowered the tread that far which is a complete asinine thing to say. I had gone to work once and other than that I've only been to Discount Tire company, which is literally two blocks away from my house. It was clear I am not getting anywhere with them so in the meantime, I've gone online to log a complaint about the runaround I got, and just hoping for some honest answer and then a remedy if need be. read more

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT!! Several people walked in after me and all said they didn't have an appointment. Somehow all five of their vehicles were serviced and returned before mine was even taken back into the bay. Of course those that walked in and said they had appointments were serviced immediately and gone in a short time. After an hour and a half of waiting with a nail in my tire, my wheel was resting with the rim on the ground. Normally I'm okay with waiting when I don't have an appointment, but being 9 months pregnant and having my dog with me, it was frustrating to see everyone else getting helped when they arrived long after myself. The inside seating area was clean and nice - they even allowed me inside with my dog. We mostly sat outside on the cement picnic table/ bench, though. I had paid for the warranty on my tires so the replacement was free, but waiting over 2 hours in total was very frustrating. Definitely suggest getting the warranty when you buy new tires and also.. make that appointment! read more

When it's cold my tires lose pressure like for many people. When they do I stop by my neighborhood Discount Tire for them to top me up. This last week I had a tiresome but also appreciative experience at this same Discount Tire, obtaining help from a large pool of the men that work at this location. Tired after work, I decided to stop by on my way in to get them to top up my tires at this latest cold snap. The kid noticed I had a nail in my tire and waved vaguely. (Minus one point.) I was a bit overwhelmed at the thought not wanting to spend to get tires replaced right now. When he urged me to be careful I noticed they weren't very busy, so I parked and went in. I waited for a few minutes, heard them say 45 minutes, knowing I only had half hour I walked out. An employee ran out after me to ask what I had needed. I explained about the nail and he suggested an appointment. (Plus one point.) So I went in and set it up for 5 pm later that day. Arrived a bit before 5 and checked in having read that having an appointment was rather meaningless. The guy I got was a bit odd, explaining things like I was a simpleton, but he was kind enough. I did like that he explained they'd message my phone about the stage my car was at (No point either way.) I stood at the window looking into the garage and noticed my car was sitting right next to the window. Another "totally different guy" was servicing my car and seemed quite lackadaisical, looking at the one tire I thought had the nail (I'd told them to please check all the tires as the kid that morning was vague. The guy who checked me in said he didn't see a nail.) (Minus two points for both of their complete lack of respect for my concerns.) Eventually after about 20 minutes more of my car sitting there having nothing happen to it they called me to get my car, no nail. I'm a bit peeved at the waste of my time, but also relieved no new tires needed. The day after next on the way into work the light came on again. This time it wasn't cold enough for low pressure. I went the next morning and told the pressure kid (another different one) about the nail fiasco. He took the time to look at my tires and concretely told me it was the other front tire. (Plus 2 points!) I didn't bother to make an appointment this time (good call it wasn't busy - so it seems it's not needed, still nice of the other guy to run out and suggest it). I got another totally different guy checking in and he treated me more like a human but was also very brusk (minus one and plus one,?evening out to no point!) This time they were speedier. This may have been due to the fact I came at 5:30 a touch before closing. Another totally different guy found the nail and repaired the tire. Overall I think it depends what guys are manning the pressure station, desk and garage as to how you're treated. Overall not a horrible experience. I was lucky the leak was slow and not in a bad area of my tire. I subtracted the star in the end because the one guy in the garage -- the lackadaisical one -- caused me to have to make a second trip. It wasn't three star either because they didn't try to upsell me tires I didn't need. I'd buy tires from them if the need arose. read more

He and his mother got to the car changed into the spare and got to Discount after hours and (thanks to Christopher Toffer) they took care of plugging the tire and replacing the spare back to its carry position. Excellent customer service from Gabe. Bought a set of tires for my wife's suv and bought a set of tires for my truck. Gabe gave us a great deal!! After a week of driving on my new all terrains, felt my truck swaying. Store manager Tim assured me that the tires just needed to be broken in. He still went ahead and had his technicians check them, balance and rotate them. Got me back on the road pretty quick even at closing time. The customer service is great but please watch out for ridiculous UP SELLING. DT tried to sell me $400 wheel caps. I politely declined. Also, make sure your tires are in stock before servicing because DT will lie to get you in the door then try to sell you other tires; so hold your keys and go inside the retail store to verify. DT's website will also lie about tires being in stock. If you're aware of these two gimmicks, DT is a good place to buy tires as flat repair service is included with your purchase. They claimed that they fixed it but 1 he after I left the place my light came on. I weirdly good and harmless experience during COVID. I had to go and replace my front two tires and found this place. I thought it would be a slog, but it was curbside and very quick. I got serviced immediately as I pulled in and the whole ordeal only took 45 minutes before I came back to pick it up. It's next-door to several eateries to pass the time as well. So the time flew by for me. My attendant was smart and patient with me. He was also almost weirdly fascinated with tires, which isn't my thing but I respect him for it. I can't say I'd prefer any other type of otaku handling the tires on my car. He didn't give a fuss when I immediately shot down him trying to upsell me, which I appreciate as well. The only downside was some of the fees that come as you are ready to pay. I got two tires for $210, but after taxes and fees, it was about $300 even. But I think that's going to happen anywhere you go for this sort of thing. read more

I love this particular location of Discount Tire. Over the years I've frequented many other locations around San Antonio but always come back to this one. The products are all the same no matter which location you go to but this one just always seems to have the most friendly and efficient staff. Today I visited and purchased 4 new tires, they didn't have the exact match I already had on my SUV...so the associate upgraded me to a better tire for free! That is why I will ALWAYS be a Discount Tire customer, you simply can not beat their customer service. That and the certificates for lifetime replacement on the tires such helps too! If your in the market for tires, give this place a shot. They also offer free air checks regardless if your tires are from them or not. We had just arrived at the gym & a nice lady pulled up behind us & informed us we had a flat tire. I jumped straight on Yelp to search for a repair shop near us & this one was so close, Yelp thought I wanted directions to walk over! I knew I would be in good hands because I was a patron of DT in Houston. We drove right over & they found a nail in the tire. I have terrible luck with nails/screws in tires so I had thankfully previously purchased DT's tire "certificate" (it's essentially a warranty) when I bought the tires at DT in Houston. The replacement cost me absolutely nothing but an hour or so of my day! They also rotated & balanced them for me! Highly, highly recommend! read more

I took my car in to get serviced because my tire indicator light was on. The gentlemen who helped me identified a screw in my back passenger side tire. They serviced my car and as I was leaving the gentlemen who handed me keys said "drive for a few miles and hour light will turn off". My light continued to stay on and a few days later my tire was flat. I called the shop and it turns out that they serviced the incorrect tire. When I asked if they could reimburse me for the tow they said the could not. So I had to $120 for the tow and $200 for new tires when if they had just serviced the correct tire the first time around I wouldn't have had to pay a thing. I will NEVER be back to this location. The flat is easily repaired and I will take care of it myself just as I did on the last tire they deemed "unsafe" 20,000 miles ago. I must add, though, they are 4 stars as a seller of new tires. I had the unfortunate luck of running over something in the road that took out a good five of six cars on I-10. Most Discount locations don't have my tires readily on hand so after calling around I discovered that this one had them ready same day, which would prevent me from driving around on a donut (because I can't drive over 50 MPH which is extremely dangerous in SA.). Upon arriving I found out it was a lot worse than I thought and I needed to replace the tire and the rim. So I'm thinking how can this day get any worse? And I find out the cost of the rim. Saving grace was I had purchased the warranty on my tire so that was covered and they went way over and beyond the call of duty and even set me up with a loaner rim so that I can safely commute around town for work. I pay for and order the rim and I'm on my way. Fast forward a few weeks and I'm busy with work and other things I have going on in my life so I've completely forgotten about this rim but I realize I haven't heard from Discount so I call and they tell me yeah everything is ready to go come on in, they're not that busy I can be in and out in under an hour. I go and after walking around to local places and being in the area waiting for them to put a rim on for over an hour and a half, they finally tell me that they have given the rim I paid for to someone else. They apologize for the mix up and tell me they're working on getting one stat and they'll take care of me for the inconvenience by discounting the invoice. In the meantime, I go out of town for work and I come back and I've got a ton of stuff going on so a few weeks later, I realize, I need some work done on my car and oh yeah! Rim - situation is still unresolved (been waiting for over a month total at this point). I call and they say, we've been trying to reach you (mind you smartphones store call history and there number is nowhere in it and no voicemails etc.). Okay, well what's the hold up? The place we got the rim from before is sold out and we're gonna have to order one directly from Lexus. I'm laughing on the inside thinking this was literally paid for over a month ago so why haven't you just done whatever you need to do to source the part? They apologize and again state they're going to discount my invoice for the inconvenience. Long story short it ends up taking about two months to get a rim put on my car. They lose my wheel lock and then my invoice is never adjusted. Follow-up and follow thru at this location are very poor. I fill out the survey and explain my experience and the store manager emails me and asks for the full story and a copy of my invoice - nothing ever comes out of that. I end up having to dispute what I think is a fair amount, for making someone wait two months, with my credit card company to get restitution for my wasted time and their poor customer service. In short, Don't talk with James at this location he will overcharge you and if you do get a quote over the phone, get that person's NAME!!! - PPL will overcharge you and will dismiss you. So talk about an experience, we bought a Compass at a jeep dealership and it had wheel locks, called the dealership and they don't have it and cant removes it. So I call discount tire, bc originally when we found out that we didn't have the key, for the wheel locks, was at Discount Tire. Usually, you can order a replacement key ($20 or $40 bucks online), but in this case, it was MOPAR, and a replacement key for MOPAR is $70. When I spoke with Discount Tire originally, they said yea we can remove the wheel locks for $20 ($5 a Tire/ 4 Lug nuts). We didn't at the time, bc I was not aware of the cost of a MOPAR replacement key. So I called to confirm the cost and schedule an appointment, again, the person I spoke with stated $20, but I didn't schedule the appointment bc it was close to their closing time. My GF called the next day and got quoted the same about $20, so GF scheduled an appointment for today 3/6/2023 at 8:45. I woke up earlier today so I went to drop off the vehicle and wait. Spoke with James, gave him the rundown minus the pricing, asked about the time frame (about an hr), and started writing it up. Well according to James, it would be $25 a tire, due to the circumstance and service. I was appalled, WTF (mentally). 3 people told us that it was $20 to remove all 4 wheel locks because we have our original lug nuts. So I asked James, why do you provide a different price, each person I spoke with before stated it will be$20 bucks and you're saying it is going to be $100. James asked who did I speak with, I don't remember the person's name over the phone, and the guy that originally told me in person is not here. After James asked everyone and I mean everyone. Luckily, Jacob, the person who scheduled the appointment with my GF, stated I did the appointment for $20, I'll do the Job. If Jacob would not say anything, James would have stuck with $25 per tire, I would have spent $100 dollars bc I couldn't remember the person's name. I sure do remember Jacob from now on, due to this situation. At this point, I have mixed feeling about this location, a part of me is happy we were able to get those original wheel locks off. Another part of me is still upset due to the overprice quote to remove 4 wheel locks from James. A replacement MOPAR key is $70, I would have just ordered a replacement key. I wanted to share this, due to circumstance and service and if anyone ever reads this, give some insight on what can happen. Stay Safe. read more
