    Great prices!!
    Rosmond P.

Not only is this place a gym, it has great prices. Especially since they have a lot of African prints as well. Once we got here, he stepped in, and you don't notice how large the place is. We found leather that we've never seen before fabric of different kinds, and all sorts of patterns as well. And the best part about it it's right off the highway so you can get here very easily, and the staff is very helpful as well.

This place is huge and has big selection of the fabrics, they divide sections with wool, linen, cotton, flannels and so on. I'm very happy to find this place that's close to me. Parking is limited in the front of the shop but there are street parking available and it's free.

    Finished look for Halloween!

So the week before Halloween, i had been calling around to look for brown fur for an Ewok costume. I had gotten down to calling the Berkeley location for this store and talked to the owned Grandchild, i believe. Very nice and helpful, but i didnt get their name. They checked for my requested fur and told me that this location didnt have it but to call the SF store and see if they do, since the store owner drives back n forth from both spots daily. I quickly followed through and got on the line with a person named Shelly in the SF store. Shelly is my hero of this review. They were able to find the fur im looking for and gave me a quick estimate of how much it is per yard. It was a bit out of buget, but i had to get this fabric. I had to end the call but i was gonna make arrangements to call back and have the fur held for me when i got a call back from the shop instead, about 20ish mins after the last call. It was Shelly on the line. Not only did they google what ewoks look like to make sure they had the right picture in their mind, but they confirmed they had fur that was close to the source and for a price that was waaaay below what i was expecting to pay! As soon as they told me, i gave them my info and that ill be at the Berkeley store that weekend to pick up. The whole experience was wonderful, the people are amazing, Shelly from the SF store is my MVP and the prices came in clutch. Ill def be getting my fabric from here from now on!

Really cool location! I have never been before and just walked through breifly but they have a vast selection of some really beautiful fabrics! Would love to come back to shop when I have more time!

Very nice fabrics for making evening clothing
    Chi L.

Today, is my first day there, my friend recommend that store. My daughter start learning how to sew. But I don't just want to shop in regular retail store like Joan.... fabrics. So make a trip to berkeley today to check out this store. This store is very clean. I found it is pretty easy to go around to look for fabric. I think other people (yelper) said hard to find things. Ok, it might be slightly more difficult than those retailer fabric store. But I found there are a lot of special fabrics especially for making evening dress. My daughter and I got some batik print fabric $4.69 per yard, they already pre-cut to 1.5 yard of 3 yards. And today, has 25% off on those(cotton one). But this store don't have regular cotton plain color fabrics (or I did not see it). It is ok, because those common color one, you could easily find in Walmart or other store. The staff here are friendly and nice. Will come again.

Negatives... Kinda a sketchy party of town Young staff member being obnoxious by loudly announcing "we are closing in 10 minutes", "we are now closed! We are counting the money! We are closed and we will be open tmr (gives hours) and the next day and the next day" Positives... Some really unique and cool fabric Most individual rolls are labeled with fabric type, color, and cut and roll prices Fabric sections are well labeled and seem to be well sorted

I filled up my cart today with hundreds of $$$ of supplies - as I tend to do once or twice a year... and headed to the check-out. There were a group of 5 employees chatting about life behind the registers, but none of them were helping customers check out. It was 100% self-checkout. I am handicapped & asked for help, but they all told me they were not allowed to help any customers check out unless the customer was paying in cash. I was surprised. I went ahead and paid for everything, then asked for a bag - which they always supplied to shoppers in the past. I would definitely need a bag to take everything in my cart with me to my car. They told me that they don't have any bags for customers any more. I asked if I could pay for a bag & they said they didn't have any bags - they girl just said "We're Out!". I was just shocked at the lack of customer service and this new policy where they are not allowed to help any customers. I will also add that when I first arrived at the store, I asked three different employees where a product was that I was looking to purchase. They all said, "Oh yeah, we carry that", just look around the back corner".. or they would point "just go in that direction". I never found the product & got tired of asking the employees who seemed to make it their 'job' to not help anyone. The only people who seemed to have any sense were the two women in the framing department. They actually were kind & professional & wanted to help me find the product I was looking for, but they did not know where the product was, nor if the store carried it because they were just focused on framing art and photos. All the employees were polite when they talked to me, all friendly conversations. I really blame the corporation - as it seems that they do not care for their employees. When cashiers are replaced by customers doing their own 'check out', they will soon no longer hire cashiers/employees, and the current employees will lose their jobs. I see this happening everywhere & the unemployment rate is climbing along with the price of basic food, etc.. shame on Michaels. I will be looking to find another arts & crafts store. Very disappointed. I wonder if all the Michaels stores have this new policy of not helping customers - even handicapped customers with checkout? Also - no bags? They could have put a sign at the front of the building announcing that customers need to bring their own bags - but no - they just embarrass customers by letting them find out after they have filled their shopping carts & paid for a zillion items & have no way to bring them out of the store. I woudn't be surprised if the next time I walked in there, the only employees were a couple AI robots.

I've been here a number of times and found the staff unhelpful. As somebody who once worked at a Best Buy I feel like I can critique being a staff member who can't direct customers are simply 'not trying.' What particularly motivates me to write the review was coming in for a two for one sale, for frames that were clearly marked two for one, having it ring up as buy one get one at 50% off. The staff then went on to describe to me what I did wrong in selecting the frame and tried to call somebody up to help me find the right frame. After waiting a few minutes I decided to just buy the frame I brought up front so that I could move on with my day. With that said, it's not one star because, well, certainly could be worse. They had the frame in stock and I suspect it will do the job well.

And I have to say that is true with much of the stuff in there. The person who donated them must have been non-melinated, because I have had the hardest time with my donations. So, they need donations to keep afloat and want to give you the third degree and reject your stuff. I went to give them lights, no xmas lights, but just regulary white lights, the type the a teacher will put around a board to highlight it or something. I was told coursely that they don't take xmas lights or nonworking lights. I explained their usage in my room and the guy plugged them in and reluctantly took them. Another time I came with binders, I'm a teacher, graduating from school and have more binders than I know what to do with. And they are good binders. Also, he said that they had too many of them. Where??? I didn't see them in the little donation space and I didn't see them in the store, so...The guy was so dismissive. The attitude is like they're doing me a favor looking at my stuff before rejecting it. Is this the nonprofit donation version of the black tax, where if a black hand is touching it, you reject it? Or you choose to pay less? While there, a black male dropped something off and got in his car. This guy (big and blond) chased the SUV yelling after him and said he couldn't do that. Glad we stopped in. We spent some time perusing all the options (men and women) and finally settled on two outfits consisting of tunic, pants, scarf for $49.99 each. (Pics forthcoming.) Before choosing outfits: The owner measured each of our chests before helping us. He recommended a few selections and urged us to try them on. Note: only one dressing room. Sizing: The tunics are supposed to be roomy and comfortable but.... He picked out a tunic for J that was too large (sleeves past his fingertips and shoulder line past shoulder) and insisted that it was "normal". We disagreed and found a tunic that was 2 sizes smaller and fit J perfectly, so we bought that one. Price: Prices are not written on the tags, which I find a bit suspicious. However, if you ask the owner, he will tell you. I told him up front that we were looking for costumes for a Bollywood themed party and didn't want to spend too much money. Most of the things we tried on were either $49.99 or $59.99. The owner told me that the tunic J tried on last (not the one suggested) was $59.99. I asked him why it was $10 more than the other one (since no noticeable difference in quality or design) and he said, for us, first time discount, $10 off. Towards the end, when I told the owner that we wanted to buy the outfit for J but I would think about mine (translation = go to other shops), the owner, had quoted me $59.99 for my outfit, told me, "I can not let you go out of this store without an outfit. For you, even though we won't make any money, $10 off as well, so $49.99). Hints: inspect the fabric carefully before buying - I saw stains on the inside of J's pants. At first the owner, said, that is the inside of the pants and I turned the pants over and I could still see the stain, so the owner switched them for another pair. Also, on J's tunic, there are black marks near the buttons but when the tunic is buttoned up, you can't see them. There was a slight smudge on my fuchsia tunic and all the owner said was "indian manufacturing - what can you do?" You can see the stitching where the sleeves were sewn to the back (that's one cool thing, you can get sleeves sewn on if desired) and on the pants, you can see the stitching around the hips). Plus, my scarf has a "rough" unfinished edge and the owner told me that it was b/c it was already stitched, but if so, then why is the end fraying? Visual impact: the embroidery/jewels on the tunics are eye catching. In the future, we could wear these outfits to an Indian wedding or party. Did we get a good deal? At Gap on Bay Street, an indian patterned cotton tunic was selling for $39 or $49, so yes, I believe we got a deal pending how they do over time.
