Why pick up a cup from a department store when you can have "the only one"? Then, there is the invention: A small pound cake ceramic pan (with recipe). A bowl for cooking and serving an individual baked apple. An Apple shaped Apple Crisp bowl that goes straight to the table. In case you've ever given thought as to how your family will remember you, someone picking up a unique piece of cookware and having fond memories of mealtime around the table is not a bad way to be recalled. I loved her little shop and really loved getting a little perspective from a generational potter. Both her mother's and father's family were potters and she was one of five kids who were raised making pottery and feeding the farm animals. She talked to me about how as a small kid- you would make 100 coaster a day to start. Once you were consistent enough, you could move onto bowls. Her shop was filled with production pottery and I felt a little sad that this was work for these families and not the artistic outlet that pottery is to me. She also shared one technique I had never heard of and now I am itching to try! I picked out two little syrup pitchers from her shop- I thought they were adorable and our Bed and Breakfast was using them- so I was inspired to bring some home with me. I truly enjoyed this little stop and Mrs. Potts made a lasting impression on me!

They also had older pottery displayed in that room that was for sale. I got caught admiring a couple of orange and cream mugs and the woman who helped us happily found the price for me. Done! I bought the pair! I was still elated from exploring Starworks- and loved seeing the studio space through the windows!

No worries- we made it back on Friday before departing and I was thrilled we did. There were lots of little pots I wanted but one particular glaze combo reminded me of a night sky or the spots on a whale shark. John was in agreement that it was our favorite! Truly- the mug I bought is a favorite from the entire trip! WhyNot add this shop to your stops on the pottery tour?!? You should!
