I was greeted by one of the artists and became immersed in a great geology conversation with him! Turns out he mines his own clay! There was a workbench covered with various clays and natural material. Even some pyrite/fools gold. That and animal bones, insect larvae and more. This is a higher end gallery- and after our conversation, I understand why. The shear knowledge of farming your own clay, testing the temperature for firing, shrinkage, vitrification & absorption rate- a rabbit hole I may someday fall into. I loved his passion for the subject. The art throughout the space was also fabulous. The woman artist was concentrating on her work and her sculptures were fantastic! I was told by other visitors to allow myself time to adjust to all the bright colors- but for me it was to adjust to how much they have packed into the space! There was just so much to see!!! Carol greeted me once I came through the door and her excitement just fed my own excitement! Carol and her husband have been doing pottery for over 31 years and started their business in Florida, only to move to Seagrove and bring their unique art to the pottery community. The two mix their own clay- a secret recipe of their own that fires at a wildly unique temp! Cone 1- if you know- you know. Fascinating conversation! John saved me from having to pick a piece of art to take home by spotting a wall plaque with a kitty- in their signature bright glazes. She is already hanging just inside my front door! Very friendly folks…read more Then there is the beautiful pottery in great quantity, all set apart by the styles and variety from the everyday ceramic humdrum in most shops that we use to furnish our kitchens and our lives. Why pick up a cup from a department store when you can have "the only one"? Then, there is the invention: A small pound cake ceramic pan (with recipe). A bowl for cooking and serving an individual baked apple. An Apple shaped Apple Crisp bowl that goes straight to the table. In case you've ever given thought as to how your family will remember you, someone picking up a unique piece of cookware and having fond memories of mealtime around the table is not a bad way to be recalled. We have been very impressed with Sandra and Glenn. They are not a secret in the area, but maybe less known than they should be.

I visited Seagrove in October, but Eck's shop was closed during my short visit & this shop was…read morerecommended by both Frank Neef and Dirtworks (other local potters)- I love finding unique pots. This shop specializes in marbled and carved pots and jewelry made with scraps by his wife. I was mesmerized by the demo! He showed me his process of going from 4 colors of clay to throwing a plate on the wheel, lifting the sides into a bowl (to preserve the marbled and not muddy the colors). He then picked up a leather hard bowl and demonstrated how to carve the layers back and creating evolving patterns around the pots. This is another one that makes the list for must return and I will be sharing his info with my local studios in case anyone wants to invite him to host a workshop here in Florida!

Eck McCanless treated us to a demonstration of his work. He threw a pot and then pulled one that…read morewas in process to show us how he carves the exterior of his swirled vases, tumblers, and oil dispensers. It was wonderful and a first time experience for my friend who loves pottery but has never seen a potter work. McCanless Pottery is truly unique in Seagrove. He layers different colored clays so, that when they are on the wheel and he pulls a container a spiral pattern appears. Once the container has dried for a spell, he will carefully and skillfully carved the exterior to accentuate the beauty of the pattern. His selection is lovely - my friend purchased a piece from his blue series and I could not resist the unique violet. We highly recommend a visit to see this potter - you will never forget it.

The huge dog was the lasting impression and the young man who was so nice to chat with me! This was another shop that surprised me inside- it was huge and had beautiful displays!!! I had to lap the building a few times just to decide on a piece! John helped too and was also impressed with the sweet baby girl we met! She is the best greeter! I loved the studio space in the back- you can see through the window! You know I was peeking at what was in progress!
